Abstract

Freshwater crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus) is a valuable aquaculture commodity with relatively easy cultivation. However, low larval survival during early developmental stages remains a major challenge in its farming. This study aims to evaluate the effects of dissolved glucose and amino acid combinations on growth characteristics, molting frequency, and survival rate. The research was conducted in the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries, Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare, using hatchery-produced crayfish larvae. Four dosage combinations were tested: A) 100 ppm glucose + 250 ppm amino acids, B) 150 ppm glucose + 200 ppm amino acids, C) 200 ppm glucose + 150 ppm amino acids, and D) 250 ppm glucose + 100 ppm amino acids, each replicated three times. The results showed that glucose and amino acid combinations significantly affected crayfish length growth. The highest absolute length growth was observed in the 250 ppm glucose + 100 ppm amino acid group. Meanwhile, the 150 ppm glucose + 200 ppm amino acid combination showed the best performance in molting frequency, number of molting crayfish, survival rate, and percentage of surviving crayfish. The optimal treatment for supporting freshwater crayfish growth and development was the 150 ppm glucose + 200 ppm amino acid combination. Keywords:Cherax quadricarinatusGlucoseamino acidsgrowth characteristicssurvival ratemolting

Abstract

Problem-based learning (PBL) is an effective pedagogy in increasing scientific literacy among students, and this strategy helps students acquire and apply knowledge and develop higher-order thinking skills that prioritize problems obtained from real life. This study aims to investigate the influence of ill-structured type problem-based learning (PBL)  model on students' science literacy skills in environmental change concept. The research was conducted at MAN 1 Pandeglang in the 2023/2024 school year using a quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group design. Two classes were selected as research samples (experimental class and control class) through simple random sampling technique. Data analysis using independent samples t-test with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics 26 showed that the value of sig. (2-tailed) of 0.004, which is below the significance level of α = 0.05. These results show that the use of ill-structured type problem-based learning models has a significant influence on improving students' science literacy skills. Thus, this learning model is effective in improving science literacy skills on the concept of environmental change

Abstract

The development of digital technology encourages the use of learning media that increase student engagement and problem-solving abilities. However, biology learning about the body's defense system material is still dominated by conventional methods, making it less than optimal in training these abilities. This study aims to develop and test the feasibility of a WordPress-based Problem-Based Learning (PBL) biology learning website. The study employed the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Research subjects involved media experts, material experts, biology teachers, grade XI students, and teachers from MAN in Bekasi City. Data were collected through validation questionnaires and response questionnaires. The research results show that the learning website has very high validity with percentages of 88.8% (media expert) and 92% (material expert), very high practicality with percentages of 90% (teachers) and 94.7% (students), and 89% effectiveness in the effective category. The PBL-based biology learning website is declared suitable for use as a learning medium on body defense system material.

Abstract

Scientific Process Skills (SPS) are essential competencies for students to face 21st-century challenges. However, learning processes in schools often overlook the development of these skills. One learning model considered effective in enhancing SPS is the Guided Inquiry model. This study aims to identify the profile of students’ SPS through the Guided Inquiry learning model on biotechnology material and to determine differences in SPS between students who experience Guided Inquiry learning and those who receive conventional instruction. The research was conducted in 2024 at a senior high school in Depok using a quasi-experimental method with a posttest-only control group design. The sample consisted of two-phase E classes selected through simple random sampling, each assigned as the control and experimental groups. Data collection used both test and non-test instruments: a posttest to assess SPS outcomes and an observation sheet to monitor SPS during learning. The results show that students’ SPS in the Guided Inquiry model vary across indicators, with the highest average score in communication (87.61%) and the lowest in prediction (49.52%). Independent Samples T-Test analysis revealed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference in SPS between the experimental and control groups. These findings suggest the Guided Inquiry model effectively enhances students’ scientific process skills in biotechnology learning
