Abstract

This article discusses community music education as social emancipation for marginalized groups in Surabaya based on a case study of POSS (Surabaya Arts Center). For the sake of this research, POSS was explored qualitatively using a case study approach. The data were collected using interviews, observation, and documentation. The study demonstrates that POSS assumes Freire's pedagogy of the oppressed by embracing dialogic, participatory, and experiential education as principles of education. Music education at POSS is geared not just towards technical proficiency but also towards self-discovery, social identity transformation, and active citizenship of students in public life. A few of the students have proceeded to perform nationally and internationally and establish identical art communities in other regions of the country. These results illustrate that music education via community can effectively facilitate social mobility and new spheres of representation for marginalized groups. Furthermore, the study highlights the imperative of cultural recognition, trust-based leadership, and inclusive pedagogy in transforming how education can reach out to underserved communities. POSS demonstrates that music education has the potential to transform not only individuals but also communities, when it is founded upon lived experience and collective empowerment. This research calls for stronger support for community-based arts education as a genuine commitment to social justice and cultural inclusion in the educational system of Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of Ki Hajar Dewantara's philosophical values with Islamic legal principles within the Hudoq Kita dance tradition of East Kalimantan. Using a qualitative–descriptive approach supported by a literature review of Dewantara's educational thought and Islamic legal theory, this research develops a conceptual framework that connects moral, cultural, and spiritual values embodied in the Hudoq Kita dance. Ki Hajar Dewantara's triadic principles—ing ngarsa sung tuladha (leading by example), ing madya mangun karsa (inspiring initiative), and tut wuri handayani (empowering from behind)—serve as a pedagogical basis for character formation and cultural learning. These principles closely align with foundational concepts in Islamic law, such as maslahah (public benefit), ʿadl (justice), and wasatiyyah (moderation), which emphasise ethical balance, social responsibility, and communal well-being. The relevance of these values becomes evident in the Hudoq Kita dance, a ritual Dayak tradition performed as an expression of gratitude, supplication, and respect for nature. It’s symbolic masks, rhythmic movements, and collective performance illustrate the harmony of feeling, thought, and will (olah rasa, olah pikir, olah karsa) emphasized by Dewantara. The findings indicate that the Hudoq Kita dance functions not only as an artistic and cultural expression but also as an educational medium for internalizing moral and spiritual values consistent with Islamic ethical teachings. Through its ritual symbolism and environmental reverence, the Hudoq Kita dance cultivates sincerity, cooperation, humility, and respect for God's creation—virtues that resonate with the maqâṣid al-syarîʿah in safeguarding life, intellect, and ecological harmony.

Abstract

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum at this time has carried a new approach, namely deep learning that focuses on three principles: full of awareness, meaningful, and encouraging. This paper aims to describe the implementation of the Independent Curriculum with a Deep Learning approach on digital illustration drawing materials at SMA Kemala Bhayangkari 1 Surabaya. The focus of the study is directed to the planning, learning process, and assessment applied by fine arts teachers in grade XII phase F. Writing uses a qualitative method with a case study approach through interview, observation, and documentation techniques. The results of the writing show that teachers have been able to translate the in-depth learning framework that includes the dimensions of graduate profiles, learning principles, learning experiences, and learning frameworks into digital illustration learning activities in a systematic manner. The learning plan is prepared through the determination of the element of "creating", with the selection of materials that are relevant to the needs of the times, and has been integrated with digital media in the form of the Ibis Paint application. The learning process takes place through seven stages ranging from introduction, materials, concept design, sketching, digitization, printing, to reflection. Each stage demonstrates the application of the principles of deep learning: mindful, meaningful, and exhilarating. Assessments are carried out authentically through initial, formative, and summative assessments that emphasize the process and progress of student learning.
