Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti apakah ada peningkatan signifikan pada keterampilan pemahaman membaca siswa antara pre-test dan post-test setelah penerapan teknik TPS. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa tingkat kedua SMA. Tes membaca digunakan sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan Repeated Measure t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan pada kemampuan membaca siswa antara pre-test dan post-test dengan tinggat signifikansi 0.05. Hal ini menandakan bahwa teknik TPS dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pemahaman membaca siswa.The objectives of the research were to find out whether there was a statistically significant difference of the students’ reading comprehension achievement between the pre-test and post-test in the implementation of TPS technique. The approach of the research was quantitative. The subjects were 30 students of the second grade of SMA. The data were collected through the reading test. The data were analyzed by using Repeated Measure t-test. The result showed that there was a statically significant difference of students’ reading comprehension between the pre-test and post-test with the significant level 0.05. Abstract

The objectives of the research are (1) to investigate whether there was difference of students’ reading comprehension achievement between those taught through predictive technique and those taught through making inferences technique, and (2) to determine which one of the two techniques was more effective for teaching reading comprehension. The researcher applied pre-test and post-test control group design. This experimental method dealt with two groups: the experimental class and control class. The sample of the research was the second grade of SMAN 1 Kotagajah. The findings of the research revealed that there was difference of students’ reading comprehension achievement between those taught through predictive technique and those taught through making inferences technique. In addition, predictive technique was more effective than making inferences technique to encourage the students’ motivation to be more active during the process of learning reading. It can be seen from the results of post-test in the experimental class was 81.50 which higher than the mean score of students’ post-test in the control class which was 72.44, with mean difference of score was 9.06. The value of two tailed significant was 0.000. It means that H 0 was rejected and H1 was accepted since 0.000 0.05.  Keywords: making inferences technique, predictive technique, reading.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan signifikan antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan RTT dan MT untuk meningkatkan pencapaian pemahaman membaca siswa. Penelitian dilakukan di SMPN 5 Natar. Peneliti memberikan pretest untuk mengetahui kemapuan dasar siswa sebelum diberikan pengajaran. Setelah diberikan pengajaran, siswa diberikan posttest untuk menegtahui peningkatan pencapaian pemahaman membaca siswa. Di kelas eksperimen 1, total nilai meningkat dari 1296 pada pretest menjadi 2095 pada posttest. Rata-rata nilai meningkat dari 49.85 di pretest menjadi 80.85 di posttest. Di kelas eksperimen 2, total nilai meningkat dari 1310 pada pretes tmenjadi 2180 pada posttest. Rata-rata nilai meningkatdari 50.38 di pretest menjadi 83.85 di posttest. Ini membuktikan bahwa siswa yang diajarkan dengan MT mengalami peningkatan yang lebih baik daripada siswa yang diajarkan dengan RTT.This research was aimed to determine whether there is a significance difference between students who are taught through RTT and MT to increase their reading comprehension achievement. This research was done in SMPN 5 Natar. The researcher administered pretest to identify the students basic skill before the treatments. After given the treatments the students were given the posttest to determine the improvement of their reading comprehension achievements. In experimental class 1, the total score is increased from 1296 in the pretest to 2095 in the posttest. The mean score was improved from 49.85 in the pretest to 80.58 in the posttest. In experimental class 2, the total score is increased from 1310 in the pretest to 2180 in the posttest.The mean score was improves from 50.38 in pretest to 83.85 in posttest. It means that the students who are taught through MT get better improvement than the students who are taught through RTT.Keyword: reciprocal teaching technique, mnemonic technique, reading.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) menganalisis prestasi kosakata siswa setelah diajarkan melalui permainan pictionary, dan (2) mendeskripsikan proses pelaksanaan permainan pictionary dalam pengajaran kosakata. Data didapat melalui tes kosakata dan lembar observasi, dan diolah menggunakan Repeated Measures t-test. Hasil analisis data menunjukan bahwa nilai rata-rata pretest adalah 65.15, dan nilai rata-rata posttest adalah 89.15. Kenaikan antara pretest dan posttest adalah 24. Siswa memperoleh kenaikan lebih besar pada noun daripada verb (25.721.5). t-value lebih besar daripada t-table (7.1992.056). Ini berarti setelah penerapan permainan pictionary, ada perbedaan dan kenaikan prestasi kosakata siswa yang signifikan. Data observasi menunjukkan bahwa permainan pictionary membuat siswa menikmati proses belajar. Motivasi siswa bertambah; mereka bisa menjadi pemecah masalah, pelajar yang aktif dan independen; mereka bisa berguru dan belajar dari sesama teman, dan menciptakan interaksi yang baik dengan teman mereka.   The purposes of the research were: (1) analyzing students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught by using Pictionary Game, and (2) describing the process of the implementation of Pictionary Game in teaching vocabulary. The data were collected by using vocabulary test and observation sheet, and were computed by using Repeated Measures t-test. The results showed that the mean score of the pretest was 65.15, and the mean score of the posttest was 89.15. The increase from pretest to posttest was 24 points. The students got higher increase in noun than verb (25.721.5). The t-value was higher than t-table (7.1992.056). It means that after the implementation of Pictionary Game, there was a significant difference and increase of students’ vocabulary achievement. The observation-based data showed that Pictionary Game made the students enjoyed the learning process. The students’ motivation was boosted; they could be problem-solvers, active and independent learners; they could teach and learn from each other, and form a good interaction with their friends. Keywords: game, pictionary, vocabulary.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to investigate whether there is any significant correlation between students’ schemata and their reading comprehension in narrative text; and to find out what type of schemata mostly used by students’ in comprehending narrative text. This research was a quantitative by nature. The research design used a co-relational design of ex post facto design. The samples of the research were selected by using simple random sampling. The data were collected by means of test and were analyzed by using SPSS at the significant level 0.01. Based on the data analysis, the result showed that there was a significant correlation between students’ schemata and their reading comprehension. The result showed that rxy is 0.841 with N 36, degree of freedom (df) N-2 to the real level  = 0.01 while rtable is 0.4238. Thus, rxy rtable; meaning the correlation is significant. Therefore, the research hypothesis (H1) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Another result found that content schemata is the most schemata type used by students’. The researcher assumes that the students who have good schemata also have good reading comprehension ability too.  Key words: narrative text, reading comprehension, schemata

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh pengajaran analisis morfologi terhadap peningkatan hasil pemahaman membaca siswa dan mengetahui masalah siswa dalam analisis morfologi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif dan dilaksanakan pada 26 siswa di kelas XI Lintas Minat 5. Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti memberikan tes analisis morfologi dan pemahaman membaca dan melakukan observasi dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada pengaruh positif pengajaran analisis morfologi terhadap peningkatan hasil pemahaman membaca siswa. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari peningkatan nilai rata-rata dari kedua tes yang signifikan dari 62.50 ke 77.12 dan 66.85 ke 78.35. Selain itu, hasil observasi dan wawancara menunjukkan siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menentukan bentuk kata dasar beserta artinya dan dalam mengklasifikasikan kata ke kelas katanya. Oleh karena itu, pengajaran analisis morfologi bisa menjadi referensi dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca bahasa Inggris.This research was aimed at finding out the effect of teaching morphological analysis on the students reading comprehension achievement and investigating the problems faced by them in morphological analysis. It used quantitative and qualitative approaches and was conducted to 26 students in XI Lintas Minat 5. To collect the data, the researcher administered morphological analysis test and reading comprehension test; observation; and interview. The results indicated there was a positive effect of teaching morphological analysis on the students reading comprehension achievement. That could be seen from the significant increase of the mean score of morphological analysis test and reading comprehension test, 62.50 to 77.12 and 66.85 to 78.35. Furthermore, the observation and interview results indicated the students faced difficulties in determining the roots and their meanings and classifying words into part of speech. Thus, teaching morphological analysis could be recommended as a reference to teach English in reading comprehension class.Keywords: morphological analysis, morphology teaching, reading comprehension

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi keefektifan teknik scaffolding terhadap kemampuan menulis eksposisi analitis siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimental. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas dua sekolah menengah atas dengan jumlah peserta adalah 35 siswa. Tes menulis digunakan sebagai instrumen untuk memperoleh data. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan Repeated Measure t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa scaffolding secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dengan tingkat signifikansi 0.05. Hal ini menandakan bahwa teknik scaffolding dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa.  This paper reports the study investigating the effectiveness of scaffolding technique on the students’ analytical writing achievement. This study is quantitative research with the experimental design. The subjects of this research were the second-grade students of senior high school with 35 students in total. The writing test was used as the instrument to elicit the data. The data were analyzed by using Repeated Measure t-test. The results showed that scaffolding significantly improved the students’ writing achievement with the significant level 0.05. This suggests that scaffolding technique facilitates the students to improve their ability in writing.Keywords: scaffolding technique, analytical exposition, writing achievement.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah crossword puzzle dibutuhkan untuk mempengaruhi interaksi siswa dalam pembelajaran kosa-kata dan untuk menelaah motivasi siswa dalam berinteraksi ketika mereka belajar kosa-kata. Desain penelitian ini adalah kualitatif phenomenological. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII B di SMPN 8 Bandar Lampung, tahun ajaran 2013-2014. Peneliti menggunakan tiga instrument pengambilan data: observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori interaksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa total interaksi yang tercipta sekitar 150 interaksi, 133 interaksi siswa-siswa (89.26 %) dan 17 lainnya interaksi antara siswa-guru (10.69 %). Jumlah akhir interaksi siswa-siswa lebih tinggi dari interaksi siswa-guru di dalam kelas. Dapat dikatakan crossword puzzle memiliki pengaruh positive terhadap interaksi siswa di kelas dan dapat memotivasi siswa untuk berinteraksi aktif dalam proses belajar.This research was intended to find out whether a crossword puzzle game was needed to affect the students’ interaction in learning vocabulary and to investigate the students’ motivation to interact when they was learning vocabulary. This research used phenomenological qualitative study.The participants were students at SMPN 8 Bandar Lampung, VIII B class in academic year 2013-2014. She used three data collecting techniques: observation, documentation, and interview. The data were analyzed using some theory interaction patterns and interaction categories. The results showed that the total numbers of interactions in the class were 150 interactions, 133 interactions (89.26 %) were students-students interactions, and 17 interactions (10.69 %) were student-teacher interactions. The total number of students-students interaction was higher than students-teacher interactions. It means that crossword puzzle game has influenced positively the students’ interaction and motivated the students to interact actively in learning process.Keywords: crossword puzzle, learning, students’ interaction, vocabulary.
