Abstract

Mastering the interpretation of spectra, as Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) spectra, in organic chemistry lectures for the analysis of natural materials is an important skill that often poses a challenge for students. This is especially true for natural materials in the surrounding environment that may have future potential, such as renggak fruits. This study aims to determine the results of interpreting renggak fruit peel extracts for use as content in a chemistry magazine, the level of validity, and student responses to the chemistry magazine developed as an alternative supplementary reading material. Conducted within the Chemistry Education Study Program at Mataram University, this study utilized the Research and Development (R&D) methodology, following the 4D model framework. The interpretation of the GC-MS spectrum of renggak fruit peel was carried out by matching the spectrum data obtained with the library data. The validity of the magazine was assessed using Aiken's V formula, while the reliability of the assessment was calculated based on the Percentage of Agreement (R) between validators. Student responses to the magazine product were obtained through a practical test. The results of the GC-MS spectrum interpretation of the renggak fruit peel extract showed the presence of the compounds myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, elaidinsaeure, heptadecene- (8)-carbonic acid-(1), 2-monoolein, 2-monopalmitin, ambretollide, 6-(2,6,6-Trimethyl-1-Cyclohexenyl)-4-Methyl-(E)-4-Hexen-1-ol, and cis-9-Octadecenal. The chemistry magazine product obtained an average Aiken's V validity score of 0.83, which falls into the “Highly Valid” category, with an average validator reliability score of 91%. The results of the chemistry magazine trial among 2021 Chemistry Education students obtained a practicality score of 92%, categorized as “Very Practical” as supplementary reading material. In the future, further exploration is needed regarding the content and design of the magazine to be created.

Abstract

Research and development were conducted with the aim of describing the chemistry concepts contained in the traditional gold mining culture in Prabu village, Middle Lombok and gold crafts in Sekarbela, Mataram. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with a survey approach, conducted in collaboration with 4D Research and Development. The data in this study were collected using the triangulation method, which included interviews, observations, and literature studies. The data analysis technique employed the Miles and Huberman method, which involved data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that in the traditional gold mining culture in Prabu Village, Middle Lombok, and the gold craft cultural activities in Sekarbela Mataram, there are chemical concepts, including elemental chemistry, reaction equations, oxidation-reduction reactions, the application of the solubility product of salts to separate chemical components from their mixtures, the concept of acids and bases, and the concept of colloids. Teaching materials in the form of ethnochemistry magazines from research and development have a feasibility category that is very feasible, based on the magazine's size, cover design, and content design, with an average V coefficient of 0.94. The feasibility of ethnochemistry magazines, based on the material component indicator, with sub-indicators of material suitability and stimulating curiosity, as well as the feasibility of presentation, with sub-indicators of presentation techniques and presentation support, and the linguistic component indicator, is classified as very feasible, with an average V coefficient of 0.93. In general, ethnochemistry magazines from research and development are classified as very feasible, with an average V coefficient of all aspects of 0.935.

Abstract

Chemistry magazines have the potential to be effective media because they are able to present material in a more interesting, concise manner, and are supported by visualizations that clarify abstract concepts. The use of chemistry magazines is expected to help students deepen their understanding of the aldol condensation reaction mechanism and other organic materials. This study aims to develop a chemistry magazine that contains content on the cross-aldol condensation reaction mechanism as a supplementary reading for students in the Polyfunctional Organic Compounds course. The type of research used is research and development (R&D) with a 4D model that includes the stages of define, design, develop, and disseminate. The subjects of the study were students from the Chemistry Education Study Program at the University of Mataram, while the object of the research was a chemistry magazine developed based on the results of a student needs analysis. Data were collected through expert validation sheets and student response questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively and quantitatively using Aiken's V formula to measure validity and percentage of agreement (PA) to measure reliability. The results showed that the chemistry magazine obtained an average validity score of 0.93, categorized as “highly valid,” and a reliability level of 94%, categorized as “reliable.” Meanwhile, the results of the practicality test, as obtained by students, achieved a percentage of 85% with the category “very practical”. Thus, the chemistry magazine developed is declared feasible and practical for use as additional reading material to enhance students' understanding of the cross-aldol condensation reaction mechanism in the Polyfunctional Organic Compounds course and to foster an interest in learning chemistry independently.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran discovery learning terhadap keterampilan proses sains pada materi indikator asam basa dan untuk mengetahui bagaimana respon siswa terhadap penerapan model discovery learning di SMAN 9 Mataram pada tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode quasi experiment dengan desain non-equivalent control group desaign. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh kelas XI MIA dengan siswa sebanyak 166 orang. Sampel ditentukan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dan diperoleh kelas XI MIA 1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas XI MIA 2 sebagai kelas kontrol. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu instrumen tes berbentuk essay yang terdiri dari 10 soal. Sebelum digunakan, pada soal dilakukan uji validitas dan uji reliabilitas terlebih dahulu pada kelas di luar sampel. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, dan uji hipotesis (uji-t) pada taraf signifikan 0,05 atau 5%. Hasil uji-t diperoleh nilai rhitung < rtabel yaitu sebesar 0,002 < 0,05 sehingga dapat disimpulkan penerapan model pembelajaran discovery learning berpengaruh positif terhadap keterampilan proses sains siswa SMAN 9 Mataram pada materi indikator asam basa kelas XI.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi digital telah membawa perubahan besar dalam dunia pendidikan, termasuk pendidikan sains. Salah satu teknologi yang semakin banyak mendapat perhatian adalah machine learning, yang mampu menganalisis data pembelajaran dalam jumlah besar untuk mendukung proses belajar yang lebih efektif, adaptif, dan berbasis data. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji konsep, perkembangan, manfaat, serta tantangan penerapan machine learning dalam pendidikan sains. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode studi literatur. Data diperoleh dari berbagai sumber akademik yang relevan, seperti artikel jurnal nasional dan internasional, buku ilmiah, prosiding konferensi, serta laporan lembaga pendidikan global. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui teknik dokumentasi dan penelusuran literatur secara sistematis pada beberapa basis data ilmiah. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis isi melalui tahapan reduksi data, kategorisasi, interpretasi, dan penarikan kesimpulan, sedangkan validitas data dijaga melalui triangulasi sumber. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa machine learning memiliki kontribusi penting dalam pendidikan sains, terutama dalam mendukung personalisasi pembelajaran, analisis performa dan prediksi capaian belajar, pengembangan laboratorium virtual dan simulasi cerdas, serta asesmen otomatis dan umpan balik cepat. Teknologi ini mampu membantu peserta didik memahami konsep-konsep sains yang kompleks secara lebih mendalam, sekaligus membantu pendidik dalam mengidentifikasi kesulitan belajar dan menyusun intervensi yang lebih tepat. Selain itu, machine learning juga berpotensi meningkatkan motivasi, keterlibatan, dan efektivitas pembelajaran sains. Namun, implementasinya masih menghadapi sejumlah tantangan, seperti keterbatasan infrastruktur teknologi, isu privasi dan keamanan data, kesiapan guru, serta potensi bias algoritma. Oleh karena itu, integrasi machine learning dalam pendidikan sains memerlukan dukungan kebijakan, penguatan infrastruktur, pelatihan guru, dan pengawasan etis agar dapat diterapkan secara optimal dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Although the integration of technology and local culture in education has received considerable attention in various studies, systematic reviews that specifically map research trends on ethnoscience-based physics e-modules remain limited. This study aimed to analyze research trends on ethnoscience-based physics e-modules in the 2015–2025 period by highlighting publication patterns, research methods, and the cultural contexts examined. A qualitative approach was employed with a systematic literature review (SLR) design guided by the PRISMA protocol on 100 documents retrieved from Google Scholar, which were analyzed using bibliometric analysis and content analysis. The findings show a significant increase in the number of publications, peaking in 2023–2024, with the majority published as SINTA-indexed journal articles. The most dominant research method was research and development (R&D) (59%), while the cultural elements most frequently integrated originated from Sumatra (55%), whereas regions such as Lombok, Papua, and Kalimantan remained relatively underrepresented. These findings contribute to the development of culturally responsive pedagogy theory and broaden understanding of the integration of educational technology within diverse cultural contexts. The study concludes that ethnoscience-based e-modules constitute a growing and strategic field of inquiry and encourages researchers, educators, and curriculum developers to design e-modules that integrate understudied local wisdom using more diverse research methodologies. The implications of this study include the formulation of a roadmap for future research and practical guidelines for developing inclusive and locally relevant digital teaching materials, while also opening opportunities for further exploration of the long-term effects of ethnoscience e-modules on higher-order thinking skills and their scalability across various educational settings.

Abstract

This development research aimed to describe the levels of validity and practicality of an ethnoscience-based practicum e-module on salt hydrolysis in salted egg production developed for senior high school students. The study employed a research and development (R&D) method with the 4D model (Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate), involving 33 Grade XI MIA 5 students of SMAN 8 Mataram in the 2024/2025 academic year as trial subjects. The validity of the e-module was assessed by three validators using Aiken’s V index and obtained a value of V = 0.88, indicating that the ethnoscience-based practicum e-module on salt hydrolysis in salted egg production is highly valid and suitable for use. The practicality of the e-module was measured through student response questionnaires and showed positive responses, with an average practicality score of 91% across all evaluated aspects. These findings indicate that the developed ethnoscience-based practicum e-module meets the criteria of validity and practicality and can be used as a supporting medium in the learning process, particularly for salt hydrolysis material.

Abstract

Structural modification of the sensor is necessary to improve the sensitivity of cyanide ion (CN⁻) detection, which has a threshold of 1.9 × 10⁻⁶ M according to WHO. This study aims to evaluate the potential of (E)-2-(benzoxazol-2-yl)-3-phenylacrylonitrile (S6) as a benzoxazole-based cyanide ion sensor through a computational approach. This study used DFT/B3LYP/6-31G(d) and TD-DFT methods to analyze electronic properties, molecular interactions, absorption shifts, binding constants, detection limits, and electrostatic potential maps. The results show that the addition of a dicyanovinyl group to S6 produced a HOMO energy of -5.9247 eV, a LUMO energy of -3.2493 eV, and an energy gap (ΔE) of 2.6754 eV. The interaction of S6 with CN⁻ formed the S6-CN complex through nucleophilic addition and N-H···N≡C hydrogen bonding, which narrowed ΔE to 2.3829 eV and induced a bathochromic shift of 69 nm from 352 nm to 421 nm. The binding constant k_bind value of 1.25 × 10⁴ M⁻¹ and detection limit of 1.4 × 10⁻⁵ M indicate that S6 has 31-fold higher sensitivity than S5. The ESP map confirms that N-H, with a value of +45.2 kcal/mol, acts as the active site. The conclusion of this study affirms that the dual mechanism in S6 supports high selectivity toward CN⁻ and contributes to the rational design of benzoxazole-based cyanide sensors.

Abstract

Rapid detection of cyanide ions (CN⁻) with a WHO threshold of 1.9 × 10⁻⁶ M requires the development of an economical and selective colorimetric sensor. This study aims to evaluate 1-phenyl-1H-benzimidazole (S5) as a candidate CN⁻ sensor through a computational approach. This study used DFT/B3LYP/6-31G(d) and TD-DFT methods to analyze electronic properties, molecular interactions, UV-Vis spectral shifts, binding constants, detection limits, and electrostatic potential maps. The calculation results show that S5 has a HOMO energy of -5.5325 eV, a LUMO energy of -2.5569 eV, and an energy gap (ΔE) of 2.9757 eV. The interaction of S5 with CN⁻ formed the S5-CN complex through N-H···N≡C hydrogen bonding, which narrowed ΔE to 2.6578 eV or decreased it by 0.3179 eV. This narrowing of ΔE induced a bathochromic shift in the UV-Vis spectrum, which serves as the basis for color change. The binding constant k_bind value of 2.9 × 10³ M⁻¹ and detection limit of 4.36 × 10⁻⁴ M indicate that S5 has moderate affinity, but its sensitivity remains low. The ESP map confirms that N-H acts as the active site. The conclusion of this study affirms that although S5 is selective toward CN⁻, its detection limit remains 230 times above the WHO threshold, indicating that further structural modification is required. This study provides an initial contribution to establishing S5 as a basic framework for the design of next-generation benzimidazole-based cyanide sensors.
