Abstract

Renggak (Amomum dealbatum Roxb) shows significant potential as a natural resource with applications in various fields, particularly in environmental sensing. This capability positions Renggak as a promising candidate for developing eco-friendly chemosensors, contributing to improved monitoring of these critical anions in the environment and health. Additionally, its diverse phytochemical profile suggests potential uses in medicinal applications, further enhancing its value as a multifaceted plant. This research focuses on the characterization of the methanol extract from Renggak (Amomum dealbatum Roxb) leaves, and it's potential to detect iodide and phosphate anions. The extraction process involved soaking dried renggak leaves in methanol for 72 hours. Afterwards, the solution was filtered and evaporated, resulting in a paste-like extract. The extract was characterized using FTIR and GC-MS techniques, followed by testing its performance as a chemosensor. The paste extract was dissolved in methanol and mixed with a saturated solution of iodide and phosphate salts for the anion detection test. Then, 3 mL of each anion solution was combined with the extract, and any changes in the solution were observed. FTIR analysis revealed the presence of OH groups and C=O double bonds in the methanol extract. GC-MS analysis identified 20 compounds, with hexadecanoic acid and 9-octadecenoic acid being the most abundant. The extract demonstrated fluorescent properties in the anion detection test, acting as a chemosensor. When exposed to a UV lamp at 250 nm, the solution emitted a green fluorescent glow, indicating the successful detection of anions. These findings suggest that the methanol extract of renggak leaves could serve as an effective fluorescent chemosensor for iodide and phosphate anions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the learning interest of mathematics education study program students in basic chemistry learning. This research is quantitative descriptive. This research was conducted by giving a questionnaire to 33 first semester students of mathematics education study program for the 2022/2023 academic year. The results showed that the learning interest of mathematics education study program students in learning basic chemistry was seen in the four indicators observed. The indicator of interest in the low category is 24%, students who are interested in the medium category are 61% and students who are interested in the high category are 15%. Indicators of attention in the low category are 18%, students who have attention in the moderate category are 70% and attention in the high category is 12%. The involvement indicator shows that the medium and high categories are the same, namely 39% and the rest are in the low category. The indicator of feeling happy in the high category is 9%, the medium category is 75% and the rest is in the low category. For all indicators, the category that dominates is the medium category. The lowest high category is on the indicator of feeling happy, namely 9%.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalkan media pembelajaran ChemMag tentang konsep-konsep kimia dalam pembuatan gula tebu sebagai bahan bacaan tambahan untuk siswa SMA. Responden dari kegiatan ini adalah guru kimia dan siswa SMAN 2 Mataram. Kegiatan ini terdiri dari tahap observasi awal, perencanaan, pelaksanaan pengabdian, dan evaluasi kegiatan. Evaluasi kegiatan menggunakan angket untuk menilai kepraktisan media ChemMag dan respon peserta terhadap media ChemMag dan kegiatan pengabdian. Kepraktisan untuk semua komponen ChemMag dengan nilai 81%, yang menunjukkan bahwa ChemMag sangat praktis untuk digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran. Hasil angket respon terhadap kegiatan pengabdian menunjukkan sebanyak 67% responden tertarik mengikuti kegiatan pengabdian ini bahkan 15% responden sangat tertarik. Sebesar 81% responden lebih tertarik mempelajari ilmu kimia dan penerapannya setelah mengikuti kegiatan pengabdian ini, dan 94% responden menyatakan pemateri menyampaikan materi kegiatan dengan jelas dan mudah dimengerti oleh peserta. Menurut 97% responden anggota yang terlibat dalam kegiatan pengabdian memberikan pelayanan yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan peserta. Seluruh responden berpendapat bahwa materi yang disampaikan sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan meambah pengetahuan kimia mereka dan kegiatan pengabdian yang diselenggarakan bermanfaat untuk menambah wawasan tentang ilmu kimia. Responden berpendapat bahwa media ChemMag sangat relevan dengan pembelajaran kimia di masa sekarang yang menerapkan kurikulum merdeka.

Abstract

In the context of environmental chemistry learning, ethnoscience can be used to connect scientific concepts with cultural values. This learning helps students understand the importance of environmental conservation through a relevant and contextual approach. This study aims to identify the ethnoscience of Peringgesela weaving as a learning resource for Environmental Chemistry. The subjects of this study were Peringgesela weaving craftsmen. The research methods were observation, interview and documentation. The results showed that natural dyes such as tarum, mengkudu, and turmeric contain active compounds that represent chemical concepts such as redox reactions, acid-base, and extraction. In addition, the fixation process using synthetic fixation materials such as alum with the molecular formula KAl(SO4)2, lime Ca(OH)2 and tunjung (FeSO4) with waste that is directly disposed of in the surrounding waters. The absence of waste management shows the basic principles of environmental chemistry. The integration of ethnoscience in learning resources for Environmental Chemistry allows students to understand science concepts more contextually, relevantly, and deeply.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the readiness of science/chemistry teachers for the application of STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and to describe the supporting and inhibiting factors of science/chemistry teacher readiness for the application of STEM learning. This research is a descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The population of this study is the number of science/chemistry teachers who teach at SMA/SMK/MA Country in District Gerung. The sampling technique in this study used purposive sampling. The number of samples was 12 science/chemistry teachers in SMA/SMK/MA Country in District Gerung. Data collection techniques using interview guidelines and questionnaire techniques which have been declared valid and reliable. The results of the research on attitude readiness, emotional readiness, cognitive readiness and behavioral readiness in public SMA/SMK/MA Country in District showed an average gain of 74.04%. This means that the readiness of science/chemistry teachers towards the application of STEM learning is more likely to be ready. Based on this, it can be interpreted that some teachers have implemented STEM learning and have never implemented STEM learning, only to the extent that they are ready to do STEM learning. This readiness is also influenced by supporting factors such as: responsibility, enthusiasm, willingness to adapt, critical thinking, thinking contextually, aware of one's own worth and will, being able to integrate various scientific disciplines, carrying out partnership functions and being good at managing time. While the inhibiting factors are independence and awareness of strengths and weaknesses, this is because some teachers have never participated in STEM learning training and teachers have never tried to apply STEM education in science/chemistry learning. Furthermore, teachers find it difficult to improve their quality in preparation for implementing STEM learning and teachers are not yet proficient in preparing lesson plans that are appropriate to STEM learning.

Abstract

The discovery learning model is a discovery-based learning model that is needed to improve learning outcomes and student learning motivation, especially in chemistry subjects which are synonymous with calculating theories, concepts, laws and facts. This research aims to describe the influence of the Discovery Learning learning model on learning outcomes and chemistry learning motivation for class XI students at SMAN 6 Mataram. This research is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental method (Quasi Experimental Design). The results of the research show that there is an influence of the Discovery Learning learning model on student learning outcomes in chemistry subjects. This can be seen from the results of hypothesis testing with the t-test at a significance level of 5%. The calculated significance was lower than 0.05, namely 0.008 < 0.05. In learning motivation, there is also an influence of the Discovery Learning learning model on students' learning motivation in chemistry subjects, which can be seen from the results of hypothesis testing with a t-test with a significance level of 5%. The calculated significance was lower than 0.05, namely 0.01 < 0.05.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a student worksheet based on the Discovery Learning model for the reaction rate topic and to determine its feasibility in terms of validity through expert validation. The development model used is the 4D model, which consists of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. However, this research is limited to the development stage, focusing on the feasibility testing of the student worksheet. The trial was conducted with 40 students at SMAN 2 Mataram. The research instruments included interview sheets and validation sheets for student worksheets. The data collected comprised both quantitative data, in the form of scores from expert validators using the validation sheets, and qualitative data, in the form of suggestions and feedback from validators. The validation sheets used a Likert scale. The validation results showed a score of 89.63% for the content/material aspect, 95.56% for presentation, 90.00% for language, and 91.63% for graphic feasibility. The overall average score for all aspects of the LKPD was 91.63%, with a reliability score of 94.00%, indicating that the student worksheet is highly feasible and suitable for use in the learning process.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui interpretasi spektra FTIR dari ekstrak daun renggak sebagai bahan bacaan mahasiswa dalam bentuk Chemistry Magazine,dan untuk mengetahui kelayakan majalah kimia tersebut dilakukan uji validasi ahli dan uji respon mahasiswa terhadap majalah kimia dengan konten interpretasi spektra FTIR dari ekstrak kasar daun renggak. Model penelitian dan pengembangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah model 4D yang terdiri dari empat tahap, yaitu pendefinisian (define), perancangan (design), pengembangan (develop), dan penyebaran (disseminate). Validasi majalah dilakukan oleh tiga dosen Pendidikan Kimia, selanjutnya dilakukan uji respon mahasiswa kepada 58 mahasiswa Pendidikan Kimia, Universitas Mataram. Pada penelitian, didapati majalah kimia yang dikembangkan memiliki tingkat validitas yang diperoleh menggunakan rumus Aiken’s V adalah 0,87 dengan kategori sangat valid dan memiliki tingkat kelayakan sebesar 90,36% dengan kategori sangat layak. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan majalah kimia dapat digunkan sebagai suplemen bacaan kimia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze chalcone compound instruments and develop a chemistry magazine as supplementary reading material for students. The research adopts the 4D development model, which consists of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. The magazine was validated by three lecturers from the Chemistry Education and FMIPA study programs, while student response testing was conducted on 47 Chemistry Education students at the University of Mataram. The validation results using Aiken’s V index indicate a score of 0.83, categorized as highly valid. Additionally, the magazine's feasibility level reached 90.03%, classified as highly practical. Therefore, this chemistry magazine is suitable as supplementary reading material in chemistry learning.

Abstract

E-modul merupakan salah satu sumber belajar yang bisa digunakan mahasiswa untuk belajar secara mandiri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat kepraktisan penggunaan e-modul kimia lingkungan. Teknik pengumpulan data kepraktisan dilakukan menggunakan angket uji kepraktisan e-modul oleh dosen dan mahasiswa, baik pada uji terbatas dan uji luas. Penelitian ini dilakukan di program studi pendidikan kimia FKIP Universitas Mataram. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan e-modul Kimia Lingkungan berbasis etnosains terintegrasi STEM praktis meningkatkan literasi lingkungan mahasiswa. Hal ini terlihat pada uji coba terbatas, nilai kepraktisan dari mahasiswa pada aspek kebermanfaatan sebesar 90,63% dan aspek kemudahan sebesar 92,19% dengan kategori tinggi. Nilai kepraktisan dari dosen rata-rata untuk empat aspek sebesar 92,92%. Hasil uji coba luas terlihat nilai kepraktisan dari mahasiswa pada aspek kebermanfaatan 91,3% dan aspek kemudahan 95,11% dengan kategori tinggi. Kata kunci: Kepraktisan, E-Modul, Kimia Lingkungan, Etnosains, STEM, Literasi Lingkungan.
