Abstract

The successful  of Bengkulu Regional Deoelopmeni   Project  was very determined    by  the society participation   in  all of the project activities. Without their participation,   those activities would not  be done as  the expectation.   In  order to  optimize the society's participation  in the development  project  (BRDP),  a good participative  communication   was needed to create a feedback  between the people involved in BRDP and the society. This research is aimed to analyze:  a) participating  on communication   in BRDP process,  b) the factors  influenced  the participation  between  the society and facilitator  in BRDP activities. The community participatory  communication   in the planning stage had a real connection with ability.  The community participatory  communication  in the stage of process was very connected with the capability changer too. The members of UPKD had given chances to ask questions,  opinions,  and suggestions   connected  with BRDP activities in Pondok  Kubang village, but the low of education,  experience, and financial capital of the society resulted  in their low participation  in BRD P activities. The low capability also reduced their motivation to participate.  The community  participatory  communication  in the stage of evaluation  had a real relation  with the honesty  changer.  In this stage, the community expected  the honesty UPKD and  transparency   in  case "who" has to get the right to get  the fund.    The community's dissatisfaction   toward the unhonestg UPKD member  in case of the facility development  projects  in Pondok  Kubang  village  has reduced participative  communication between the UPKD members and the communitf.

Abstract

Bengkulu City has abundant marine resources, leading in marine capture fisheries volume and value among districts. However, its fishermen remain impoverished due to overfishing, unpredictable weather, and illegal fishing by large vessels, which reduce small-scale fishermen's catches and welfare. This study aims to analyze the income exchange rate of small-scale fishermen's ladders in Bengkulu City and the factors that affect it. Respondents are 100 small-scale fishermen spread across Bengkulu City selected by accidental sampling. Data analyzed using quantitative methods and using SPSS. The results showed that the Income structure of small-scale fisherman households in Bengkulu City consists of income on a fishery by percentage as 80.30% and non fishery income amounting to 19.70% of total income, which is IDR 951,675/week. The consumption expenditure pattern of small-scale fishing households in Bengkulu City consists of expenditure for food by percentage as 51.41% while expenditure for non-food as much as 48.59% of total expenditure, which is IDR 962,230/week. The fishermen's household income exchange rate in Bengkulu is 0.98 < 1, indicating that they cannot fully meet their basic needs and remain relatively poor. The variables of age, fishing hours, catch variations, fishing experience and boat size had a significant effect on the fishermen's household income exchange rate in Bengkulu City. In contrast, the fisherman fisherman education variable did not have a considerable effect on the fishermen's household income exchange rate in Bengkulu City.

Abstract

This study analyzes farmers’ understanding of farm commercialization and identifies the factors influencing it in South Bengkulu Regency, a leading rice-producing area in Bengkulu Province, Indonesia. A total of 88 rice farmers were surveyed using structured questionnaires, and data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression. The findings reveal that farmers’ understanding of commercialization falls within the understanding category (average score: 3.51). Among the indicators, price understanding achieved the highest score (3.93), followed by market orientation (3.70). Risk (3.31) and institutional aspects (3.08) remained relatively low. Regression analysis indicates that formal education, farming experience, access to extension services, rice field type (irrigated vs. rainfed), and land size significantly influence farmers’ understanding (R² = 0.624). These results indicate that both internal factors (education and experience) and external factors (extension, irrigation systems, and farm size) jointly determine farmers’ capacity to understand and apply commercialization concepts. Strengthening non-formal education, enhancing extension services, and supporting farmer institutions are essential to improve farmers’ market orientation. Strengthened understanding of commercialization is expected to increase household welfare and contribute to sustainable agricultural development in the region.
