Abstract

P3HT:PCBM-based polymer solar cells have demonstrated potential as an affordable substitute for conventional silicon-based photovoltaics. The performance of P3HT:PCBM bulk heterojunction solar cells is examined in this work in relation to the annealing temperature and the composition of the active layer. The morphology of the active layer was characterized using SEM, while the electrical properties were measured using current-voltage (I-V) characterization. Our findings show that 150°C is the ideal annealing temperature, resulting in the maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 2.58%. SEM analysis revealed that this temperature produces the most homogeneous surface morphology. Additionally, a P3HT:PCBM ratio of 3:1 resulted in the best device performance, with a PCE of 4.36%. Short-circuit current and open-circuit voltage increase when the blend's P3HT level increases. These results offer important information for optimizing the production of P3HT:PCBM-based polymer solar cells, which could lead to increased organic photovoltaic device efficiency and possible commercial outcomes.

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of temperature and monomer concentration on tannic acid polymerization to enhance dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) efficiency. Tannic acid was polymerized using Trimethylolpropane Triglycidyl Ether (TMPGDE) as a crosslinker, with monomer concentrations of 2, 2.5, and 3 grams and temperatures ranging from 30°C to 110°C. UV-Vis analysis revealed a bathochromic shift in poly-tannic acid, indicating increased light absorption in the 200-800 nm range. FTIR confirmed the formation of new ether groups, signifying successful polymerization. The highest DSSC efficiency (8.984%) was achieved with 2.5 grams of monomer at 50°C, significantly outperforming unpolymerized tannic acid (1.35%). The optimal poly-tannic acid has an average molecular weight of 32,610.1568 and a polymerization degree of 19.182. This research demonstrates the potential of tannic acid polymerization for improving DSSC performance, paving the way for more efficient and cost-effective organic solar cells.

Abstract

Abstract This research is motivated by the Nusantara Student Dormitory (AMN) scholarship program initiated by President Joko Widodo in 2022, which aims to foster intercultural interaction among students from 38 provinces across Indonesia. The diverse environment within the dormitory creates a potential for conflict, requiring AMN students to adapt to the variety of ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds present in the community in order to sustain their two-year stay. This study aims to analyze and describe the process of intercultural adaptation experienced by AMN students during their time in the dormitory. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, this study involved ten informants consisting of alumni, active residents, and AMN student mentors who come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Data were collected through in-depth interviews as the primary source and document studies as secondary data. The analysis employs Kim’s (2001) Cross-Cultural Adaptation Theory to explore the dynamics of the adaptation process. The findings reveal that the intercultural adaptation process experienced by AMN students is both dynamic and complex. It begins with experiences of culture shock during intercultural communication—both verbal and nonverbal—followed by a phase of adjustment through continued cultural interaction, ultimately leading to changes in the students themselves. The adaptation process is not always smooth, as it often encounters barriers and resistance. Nevertheless, intercultural adaptation leads to a series of changes in AMN students, affecting their cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects. The study also identifies a gap between the theoretical framework and the participants’ experiences: while Kim’s theory views adaptation as a long-term psychosocial process, the informants tended to interpret adaptation as the achievement of personal comfort or stability. Key Words: Intercultural communication; cross-cultural adaptation; asrama mahasiswa nusantara (AMN). .  Kata-kata kunci: Komunikasi antar budaya; adaptasi lintas budaya; asrama mahasiswa nusantara (AMN).

Abstract

Cationic dyes such as methylene blue are among the most widely used dye in the textile and paper industry. The dye waste produced causes environmental pollution and is harmful to human health. Thus, wastewater treatment becomes an important aspect of reducing this problem. Adsorption is a very effective method for treating various wastewaters due to its high selectivity and capacity. This study aims to prepare an adsorbent from graft copolymer acrylamide onto cellulose with the addition of activated carbon microwave-assisted and to test its performance as an adsorbent for methylene blue. The adsorbent synthesis was carried out using a microwave-assisted graft copolymer technique. The graft of acrylamide onto cellulose with the addition of activated carbon was carried out at various times (3, 4, and 5 minutes). Based on the FTIR spectra characterization of the adsorbent, the functional groups are C=O and N-H, and SEM analysis shows that the surface forms an interconnected network. At 3, 4, and 5 minutes of irradiation, grafting ratios were 329.72, 128.00, and 150.12, with grafting efficiency of 99.74, 72.94, and 78.02%. The maximum adsorption capacity of the adsorbent on methylene blue was 14.00, 6.04, and 9.97 mg/g, respectively, following the Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo second order kinetics. The experimental results show that the adsorbent can effectively remove or eliminate methylene blue in an aqueous solution.

Abstract

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) are a promising alternative to conventional solar cells by using dye molecules to absorb sunlight and facilitate energy conversion. In this study, tannins were used as the dye. Tannins can be polymerized into poly-tannins, which increases the amount of double bonds and therefore improves photon absorption. Furthermore, this study will also examine how metal doping affects the TiO₂ semiconductor to further enhance its performance. The selected dopants—Cu, Fe, and Ag—were tested for their capacity to change the bandgap and increase electron mobility. Experiments showed that metal doping lowered the bandgap of TiO₂, resulting in better electron excitation and charge transfer. Under optimum conditions, the combination of poly-tannin dye and TiO₂-Ag semiconductor resulted in the highest DSSC efficiency (9.18%). Based on this, it can be concluded that combining metal-doped TiO₂ with poly-tannin dyes can greatly improve DSSC performance.
