Abstract

In Bandung City, stunting prevalence declined from 28.12% in 2019 to 12.4% in 2024 alongside improvements in nutrition surveillance and community outreach. This study examines how institutional networks shape stunting governance at the local level. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with government officials, health center staff, and community cadres, complemented by non-participant observations of coordination meetings and social network analysis of inter-institutional interactions. The findings indicate that strong ties among core government actors—Bappelitbang, the Health Office, and the Population and Family Planning Office—support stable coordination and consistent program implementation. Meanwhile, weak ties with external actors, including universities, religious organizations, and private sector partners, contribute additional resources and ideas, although engagement remains uneven. Health centers and community cadres function as bridging actors that translate policy into community-level action, particularly in early detection and nutrition education. The Task Force for Stunting Acceleration (TPPS) provides a formal platform that structures cross-sector collaboration. Overall, the study highlights the importance of balanced institutional linkages in enabling coordinated stunting interventions while acknowledging ongoing challenges related to capacity disparities and sectoral boundaries.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic mass organizations as forms of Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) in responding to the environmental crisis in West Java, Indonesia, with a focus on the relationship between theological values and institutional practices. This study becomes important due to the increasing ecological crisis and the significant potential of Islamic organizations as social actors grounded in religious values. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving eight Islamic organizations in West Java. The researcher collects data through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and then analyzes the data using thematic analysis techniques to identify key patterns in organizational practices. The findings show that Islamic organizations possess strong theological foundations in building ecological awareness, which derive from the concepts of khalifah, amanah, and mizan. However, these values do not automatically translate into systematic and sustainable practices. The study identifies significant variation across organizations in terms of institutional capacity, level of institutionalization, and patterns of environmental program implementation. Furthermore, the study reveals a gap between normative awareness and organizational practices, which is influenced by limitations in structure, resources, and institutional orientation. The implications indicate that strengthening the role of Islamic organizations in environmental issues requires not only value-based approaches but also the enhancement of institutional capacity. In terms of originality, this study contributes to the development of Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) scholarship by identifying institutional capacity as a key factor that bridges theological values and social action, and by proposing the Green Ummah Framework as a community-based integrative model.

Abstract

Addiction counselors with a history of drug abuse recovery hold a unique position because they assist clients in the rehabilitation process while also maintaining their own recovery. This study aims to examine the emotion-focused coping strategies used by former drug-user addiction counselors in dealing with work stress from the perspective of character education. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study design at Yayasan Sekar Mawar, West Bandung Regency, West Java. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation study. The main informants consisted of three addiction counselors with a history of drug abuse, while two supporting informants were involved to provide an institutional perspective. The findings show that addiction counselors experience work stress from various sources, including diverse client characteristics, family pressure, demands to be role models, monotonous work routines, and personal vulnerability in maintaining recovery. The dominant coping strategy used by the counselors is emotion-focused coping, particularly positive reappraisal, self-controlling, and distancing. From the perspective of Thomas Lickona’s character education, these coping strategies reflect the formation of moral knowing through self-awareness and understanding of personal limits, moral feeling through emotional control and empathy, and moral action through the counselors’ consistency in professionally assisting clients. This study concludes that emotion regulation among addiction counselors functions not only as a strategy for managing work stress but also as a process of character formation, including self-control, responsibility, reflection, and resilience in maintaining recovery.

Abstract

Drug relapse remain one of the major challenges in rehabilitation services, including among peer counselors who are directly involved in assisting drug users during the recovery process. This study aims to analyze interpersonal factors influencing the vulnerability to relapse among peer counselors in drug rehabilitation services. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach conducted at Yayasan Grapiks. Data were collected through in-dept interviews, observation, and documentation involving peer counselors and supporting informants in rehabilitation services. The findings revealed that interpersonal factor significantly influence the vulnerability to relapse among peer counselors. Social support from family, colleagues, and the rehabilitation environment contributes positively to maintaining the recovery process. However, close interpersonal relationships with clients, exposure to active drug-use environment and the lack of professional supervision increase emotional pressure and vulnerability to relapse. In addition, limited institutional support causes peer counselors to face psychological burdens independently during the assistance process. Therefore, strengthening peer counselors’ capacity through psychosocial support, professional supervision, and reinforcement of professional boundaries is necessary to maintain recovery stability and improve the quality of rehabilitation service.

Abstract

Resource-rich forests often become places where poor communities gather. Current forestry policies have not fully addressed poverty. This study examines the extent to which the Social Forestry Program, through the Social Forestry Forest Utilization Permit (IPHPS) scheme, can fulfill the rights of poor communities in forest areas. This study examines program achievements not only from an economic perspective but also from the perspective of fulfilling human rights (HAM). This study uses a qualitative approach with a single case study in Parungmulya Village, Ciampel, Karawang. This area borders the Mitra industrial area (KIM), which is in stark contrast to the conditions of the community within the forest area. Data collection techniques used were participant observation and document collection, which were then analyzed and verified through triangulation. The analytical framework uses structural poverty theory, a Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) with the PANEL principle (Participation, Accountability, Non-discrimination, Equity, Legality) from a Social Work Perspective. The results of the study indicate that the Social Forestry program can restore the dignity and legal status of communities from "encroachers" to "partners of the state." However, this permit does not guarantee residency rights and actually excludes them from social protection programs that require land certificates. Income has increased, but remains below the regional poverty line. This program has reduced the depth of poverty, but has not lifted people out of it. Scientifically, the recognition of new rights is still preliminary. Resource redistribution and policy adjustments across sectors are needed to achieve comprehensive social justice.

Abstract

This study examines social support for breast cancer patients at the Humanis Shelter in Bandung City with a focus on four forms of support according to Sarafino & Smith (2011): emotional, appreciation, instrumental and informational support. This study describes the role of the shelter in providing social support using qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. The purpose of this study was to describe the four forms of social support provided and their impact on patients. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with administrators and patients at the shelter, participatory observation and secondary data conducted from March to June 2025. The results of the study indicate that social support has been provided comprehensively, namely emotional support is provided through counseling and religious activities; appreciation support in the form of verbal appreciation and recreation; instrumental support includes logistical and administrative services, while information support is delivered through social media and counseling activities. These findings reinforce the importance of integrating social support into shelter services to improve the quality of life of patients. The weaknesses found lie in the suboptimal structured counseling and routine recreational activities. This study provides suggestions for further examining the effectiveness of each form of support and comparisons between shelters in providing social support. Abstract

This study examines the ideological orientations shaping indigenous education in the context of environmental protection and food security amid deepening marginalization. The research employs a mixed-methods design, combining William O’Neill’s Educational Ideology Questionnaire with qualitative observations and in-depth interviews. The findings reveal that indigenous education actors predominantly adopt conservative and intellectualist orientations, emphasizing the preservation of customary values, ecological balance, and structured knowledge transmission. Institutional practices, however, reflect more liberal tendencies, prioritizing inclusivity and adaptive learning. This interplay of ideologies positions education as both contextual and emancipatory, reinforcing indigenous agency in advancing ecological resilience, food sovereignty, and social justice. Keywords: environmental protection; food security; educational ideology; indigenous peoples

Abstract

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan pendekatan Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) dalam proses pemberdayaan penyandang disabilitas tuli pada Program Perintis, khususnya melalui lima tahapan ABCD yaitu collecting stories, forming a core group of organizers, mapping the capacities and assets, mobilizing assets for community development, dan leveraging activities and resources.
