Abstract

Cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye that reduces the amount of light entering and results in impaired vision. Cataracts remain the leading cause of visual impairment and blindness worldwide. Bitter melon fruit contain flavonoids and polyphenols which have antioxidant activities. Thirty of 9 days age wistar rats was divided into six group. Normal and negative group were given 2 ml/200 g BW rats 1% of PGA orally. Positive control was given 0,0009 g/200 g BW rat of vitamin C. Test group 1, 2, and 3 (were given 0,025 g/200 g BW rats; 0,051 g/200 g BW rats; and 0,1 g/200 g BW rats bitter melon fruit ethanol extract orally, respectivelly). All of the group except Normal were inducted with 0,25 mg/200 g BW rats sodium selenit subcutaneously. Treatment was given until the rat open the eyes for the first time (± 18 days). Eyes were observed macroscopic and microscopically in all group. The ethanol extract of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) has preventive activity against the formation of cataracts. The negative control group and dose I included in stage IV, positive control included in stage I, dose II included in stage III and dose III included in stage II. The most effective dose which prevent the formation of eye cataracts was 0,1 g/200 g BW rats bitter melon fruit (Momordica charantia L.) ethanol extract. Keywords : Cataract, Bitter melon fruit, flavonoids

Abstract

Mango leaves (Mangifera longipes Griff.) are used for diabetic, malaria, gastrointestinal, kidney, as well as topical treatment of wounds. The aim of this study was to determine the antidiabetic activity of methanol extract, water fraction and ethyl acetate fraction from mango leaves (Mangifera longipes Griff.). Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) on 24 rats divided into 6 groups, namely normal; negative; positive (given acarbose 1.8 mg/200 g BW rats); methanol extract (EM), water fraction (FA), ethyl acetate fraction (FEA) with a dose of 58.8 mg/200 g BW rats. Induction of 1.35 g/200 g BW of rats glucose was carried out 30 minutes before the dosage administration. Data analysis with Paired T Test (95% confidence level). Results: In crude extract standardization, the water content was 2%, the ash content was 12.6% and the water soluble extract content was 19.5%. In crude extract and EM, flavonoids, saponins, and phenols were identified; in FA identified saponins and phenols; FEA identified flavonoids and phenols. A significant decrease in blood glucose levels at T0 and T120 in all groups (significant 2-tailed <0.05). The percentage of decline in the positive and FEA groups compared to the negative was 85.5% and 16.9%, respectively. Discussion:. Flavonoids are thought to increase antioxidant activity and inhibit α-glucosidase enzymes. Conclusion: EM, FA and FEA have antidiabetic activity with the best percentage reduction in glucose levels was FEA (16.9%).Keywords: Antidiabetic, OGTT, Mangifera longipes Griff

Abstract

The synthesis of Fe(III) complexes with ligands N'-(4-Chlorobenzoyl)isonicotinohydrazide can be synthesized through mixing metal and ligand dissolved in ethanol by reflux at ± 75oC for 5 hours. The instruments for the characterization of the complex were used UV-Visible and Infrared Spectrophotometry. The aims of the study are: to determine the synthesis method, characterize of the complex, and to study the interaction of the complex with target receptors. The weight of the synthesized compound was obtained by 38.1 mg. The purity of the complex has been tested using the determination of melting point and got a melting point range was 196-198oC. The maximum wavelength of Fe(III)N'-(4-Chlorobenzoyl)isonicotinohydrazid) complex was  261.0 nm and provide absorption of Fe-O vibrations at wavenumbers 530.42 cm-1. The docking process was done using AutodockTools-1.5.6 software which shows that the Fe(III)N'-(4-Chlorobenzoyl) isonicotinohydrazide complex can interact with Enoyl-Acyl Carrier Protein Reductase from Mycobacterium Tuberculosis and it has better  interaction than isoniazid or N'-(4-Chlorobenzoyl)isonicotinohydrazide compound with the acquisition of free energy binding (ΔG) -9.80 kcal/mol and inhibition constant (Ki ) 0.06529 μM.

Abstract

Musa x paradisiaca L. leaves are known to contain phenols, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and other compounds that can be used as larvicides. This study aims to determine the effect of Musa x paradisiaca L leaves’ ethanol extract granules on the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae. The Research was experimental in two stages of effectiveness testing, that are extract and granule formula effectiveness test. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann-Whitney test. The extraction method used was maceration using 96% ethanol. The concentration of the extract dosage used were 0.2; 0.5; 1; 2; and 4%, with control (+) temephos and control (-). Repetitions were carried out 3 times with a sample total of 675 larvae. Observations were made for 12 and 24 hours. Preparation of granules using 2 formulas, formula 1 granules without extract and formula 2 granules with the extract. To fulfill the granule formulation criteria, the preparation was evaluated. The results showed that the concentration of 4% extract was the most effective at 98.7%, as stated by the Kruskal-Wallis test result,p-value <0.05, which means that there was an effect on the effectiveness of larvicide. The percentage of mortality of larvae given formula 2 is 100% and based on the Mann-Whitney test with value p<0.05, there is a difference between granule 1 and 2 formula. Criteria of granule including moisture content (1.72 %), angle of rest 240, flow velocity (50 gr/sec), and dispersion time (2.25 minutes). The granular formula of Musa x paradisiaca L leaves can make the application easier and hopefully can be used as effectively as synthetic larvicide in the community.

Abstract

High blood pressure is described as an increase in blood vessel pressure when the heart pumps against the walls of the blood vessels. Satisfaction is the feeling of satisfaction received by the patient/person experiencing the treatment. This study aims to measure the level of adherence, satisfaction, and knowledge of drug use before and after counselling. This research was conducted experimentally with primary data collection in the form of information from patients prospectively from February to April 2019. The instruments used were the compliance questionnaire (MMAS-8), satisfaction, and knowledge. Respondents involved in this study were 50 people. The testing group was divided into two, namely the group that was given treatment and the group that was not given treatment, where the treatment group was given counselling by the pharmacist. The results of statistical testing showed a value (p <0.05) on the level of compliance, satisfaction, and knowledge. The test results showed a significant value (P <0.05) between compliance with knowledge and satisfaction. Meanwhile, there is no significant result between satisfaction and knowledge. It can be concluded that there is a correlation between the level of knowledge with compliance, compliance with satisfaction and there are differences in the level of compliance, satisfaction, and knowledge before and after being given pharmaceutical/counselling care.

Good environmental hygiene will be related to good health. In addition to eating and drinking being basic needs, the existence of soap as the main need to support daily activities is often included in secondary needs rather than primary needs, while on the other hand soap is included in basic needs. The purpose of this implementation is to provide knowledge and direct training to the community, especially parents of orphanage children, in making detergent and dish soap used as an effort to maintain cleanliness. The activity lasted for one day, during which the activity showed maximum results. The community is very excited and understands the procedure for making products, so they produce products (detergent and dish soap) well. The Paired T-test analysis used in this activity obtained a p-value of (0.000) which shows that there is a significant difference in the average value before and after training. This proves that the activity through training on making dish soap and detergent is very beneficial for participants. Keywords: health; soap; detergent; hygiene
