Abstract

Career adaptability is an essential competency for Generation Z students in addressing the challenges of a dynamic and uncertain labor market. This study aims to analyze the role of religious values in shaping the career adaptability of Generation Z students. Employing a descriptive phenomenological approach, the research explores students’ subjective experiences in integrating religious values, such as honesty, integrity, and gratitude, into the career adaptation process. Research data were collected through in-depth interviews with school counselors and students, as well as distributing instruments to vocational high school students representing Generation Z. Thematic analysis of qualitative data revealed that religious values serve as moral pillars that provide direction, mental resilience, and confidence in making ethical and sustainable career decisions. Quantitative results using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test (Asymp. Sig. = 0.005) showed a significant improvement in the career adaptability of students in the experimental group. These findings were further supported by the Mann-Whitney U test (Asymp. Sig. = 0.020), confirming the effectiveness of integrating religious values into students' career readiness. Additionally, qualitative data revealed that experiential learning approaches positively contributed to students' psychological well-being. Students reported increased self-confidence, self-awareness, and stress management skills that support their readiness to navigate the dynamics of the labor market. This study underscores the importance of religious values in fostering adaptive, ethical, and sustainable career development among Generation Z students.

Abstract

The problems of junior high school students are getting more and more varied because information is easy to get. This condition makes it hard for guidance and counseling teachers to give the best help with the current limits. Also, since students live with the digital world, guidance and counseling services must change too. The program used a project-based learning model through six steps: design, preparation, introduction, core training, closure, and reporting. There were 20 guidance and counseling teachers from the Junior High School Guidance and Counseling Teachers Association of Malang Regency as participants. The results showed that there was a significant increase in teachers’ competencies with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). These results proved that the self-help approach integrated with reality counseling based on the values of Ki Hadjar Dewantara could improve the competence of guidance and counseling teachers in providing autonomous and local-based counseling services to introduce a new counseling paradigm that encourages student independence in the digital era.

Abstract

Students’ learning problems in schools are issues that require serious attention from all stakeholders, particularly school counselors. Various factors contribute to the learning difficulties experienced by students today. Changes in curriculum, educational systems, and technological developments have significantly influenced the nature of students’ learning problems. In addition, challenges in other domains such as personal, social, and even career-related aspects also affect students’ academic functioning. These learning problems consistently appear every year, making them recurring challenges that school counselors must address in their service delivery, both now and in the future. Drawing from the experiences of school counselors in managing and providing services related to students’ learning difficulties, this study focuses on exploring the challenges of learning problems faced by junior high school students from the counselors’ perspectives. A qualitative research method with a phenomenological design was employed, involving school counselors with more than five years of professional experience. The data obtained were then analyzed in depth to answer the central research question regarding the challenges of student learning problems in the digital era. The findings indicate that in the current digital era, the primary underlying factor contributing to students’ learning problems is low learning motivation. This condition is influenced by excessive use of social media and online games. Another contributing factor is students’ perception that learning is unimportant, along with the belief that studying is a boring activity. These issues highlight the need for serious attention from all relevant parties, as low learning motivation among students must be addressed as a priority.
