Abstract

Kata kunci: karies gigi; rujukan UKGS; ketidakhadiran siswa; PuskesmasABSTRACTIntroduction: The results of the 2019 School Dental Health Initiatives (UKGS) report at the North Denpasar II Community Health Centre (Puskesmas) were 10% of the total 660 elementary school students referred for treatment. However, elementary school students who need dental treatment do not follow the instruction. This study aimed to determine the reasons for the absence of UKGS referral elementary school students to Puskesmas II Denpasar Utara based on the perceptions of mothers and teachers. Methods: Qualitative research using an exploratory study approach in elementary schools in the working area of North Denpasar II Community Health Centre. A total of 7 informants were selected by purposive sampling method consisting of mothers of School Dental Health Initiatives referral students, teachers in charge and Community Health Centre officers holding School Dental Health Initiatives programs. Data were collected by in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic methods. Result: Mother’s perception of School Dental Health Initiatives activities is considered helpful in preventing tooth decay in children. Oral health has not become a priority so that mothers do not routinely do periodic check-ups. Mothers prefer to come to private practice using insurance because of a long queuing period in the Community Health Centre. The teacher’s perception is that School Dental Health Initiatives activities provide benefits even though there is no particular form in the implementation of School Dental Health Initiatives referrals; health workers only make records by writing down student identities and information about cavities or persistence. Conclusions: Dental and oral diseases have not become a priority for parents compared to other diseases. Parents prefer to come to private practice using insurance because of a long queuing period in the Community Health Centre and difficult accessibility. Teachers consider School Dental Health Initiatives activities beneficial even though there is no special form regarding UKGS referral results in practice. Referral results are notified directly or through online media to parents. Keywords: dental caries; School Dental Health Initiatives; referral; student absence; Community Health Centre

Abstract

Introduction. Adolescents with hearing impairment face a number of exclusion due to their limitation, including lack of access to information on reproductive health. This study was aimed to explore needs for sexual and reproductive health education for students with hearing impairment at SLB B Negeri Singaraja. Methods. A qualitative study was conducted at Singaraja District. Data were collected at through in-depth interviews to 19 informants. Informants were purposively selected based on their specific roles. Our informants included ten students with hearing impairment, one head of school, five teachers, and three parents or carers. Data were analysed using a thematic approach. Results. The majority of students with hearing impairment were having low level of knowledge associated to sexual and reproductive health. However, sexual and reproductive health practices between adolescents with and without hearing impairment were generally comparable. Needs for sexual and reproductive health education must cover several elements: (1) education material must be tailored based on age, (2) learning methods should be tailored based on their intellectual ability, and (3) learning methods must use contextual and real model approach to allow better transfer of information. Teachers faced difficulty to provide sexual and reproductive health education for students with hearing impairment even though some modules are already available. Conclusion. Students with hearing impairment at SLB B Singaraja State need more simple learning pictures and videos that are accompanied by written texts and sign language movements so that it is easier to understand the material delivered by the teacher, where the reproductive health education material needed is age-appropriate material and the development of each individual, while the reproductive health learning methods needed by deaf students are simpler learning methods while still using sign language.

Abstract

Pharmacy counseling, which provides quality drug information, improves patient safety. However, this service is not optimally provided in Indonesia. A new model, modified pharmacy counseling (MPC), was developed to make it easier for service providers. We aimed to measure MPC effectiveness in improving short-term antibiotic compliance. This community trial (ISRCTN82062391) involved patients (age, ≥18 years) recruited from selected pharmacies between December 2020 and February 2021 in two Bali Province districts. At baseline, data regarding sociodemographic characteristics, knowledge levels, and attitudes toward antibiotic use were collected. MPC effectiveness was assessed using Morisky medication adherence scale-8. Of 300 recruited patients, 290 participated (response rate, 96.67%). The baseline study revealed that knowledge regarding short-term antibiotic use is lacking; however, awareness regarding antimicrobial resistance is high. MPC significantly improved short-term antibiotic compliance (risk ratio, 2.849; 95% confidence interval, 1.904-6.640; p<0.001). The mean rank significantly differed between the intervention (61.05) and control groups (37.95). The proportions of compliant patients in the intervention and control groups were 35.6% and 12.5%, respectively. The main reason for low compliance was forgetting and not being made aware by pharmacy workers in the intervention (46.8%) and control (55.6%) groups, respectively. These findings provide insights for improving pharmaceutical care.
