Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of energy levels in feed on the quality ofspermatozoa. The materials used in this study were 80 weeks old male native chickens, rations, 3%sodium chloride, eosin, and distilled water. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD)consistied of 4 treatments and each treatment was repeated 4 times. Each repeatation was a malenative chicken. Collection of semen used the massage method on the abdominal area. The results ofthe study showed that the energy level in the rations increased (P<0.01) the mass motion anddecreased the motility of spermatozoa. The mean of mass motion scores obtained ranged 1.50% to3.00%, and the motility ranged 68.75% to 80.0%. The energy level in the rations increased(P<0.05) on the concentration and the number of live spermatozoa. The mean of concentrationobtained ranged 2.75x109 cells/ml to 3.75x109 cells/ml and the number of live spermatozoa ranged from 89.50% to 92.50%. Energy level in rations had no significant effect (P>0.05) on spermatozoaabnormality. The mean percentage of abnormal spermatozoa obtained ranged 2.27% to 2.38%.Based on this result, it can be concluded that the energy level in the rations could improve thequality of spermatozoa

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of heating before incubation on the quality of native chicken hatching eggs. This study used 200 eggs from native chickens. This research is a laboratory research using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. Each treatment used 10 hatching eggs. If statistical analysis shows a significantly different or very significant effect, it will be continued by using Duncan's test. In this study, the results showed that heating of hatching eggs before incubation had a very significant effect (p<0.01) on fertility and hatchability, but had an insignificant effect (p>0.05) on weight loss of hatching eggs. The average egg weight loss in this study ranged from 0.00-0.10%, fertility 70.94-83.15%, embrio mortality 15-40% and hatchability ranged from 60-85%. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the heating of the hatching eggs before the eggs are put into the incubator can reduce the quality of the hatching eggs. The longer heating time causes the lower quality of hatching eggs.

Abstract

This study was done to determine impact of aging on sperm quality of Sentul roosters. Materials used in this study were Sentul males aged 48, 58, 68 and 78 weeks, NaCl, eosin and aquades. Semen was collected by abdominal massage method. Completely randomized design (CRD) was applied in this study with 4 treatments in 5 repetitions. Statistical analysis showed that increasing age of rooster had a very significant effect (p0.01) on decreasing semen consistency, mass motility, spermatozoa concentration and increasing spermatozoa motility. Aging in Sentul roosters affected semen volume significantly (P0.05)  but  did not significantly affect (p0.05): semen pH, live spermatozoa, and spermatozoa abnormalities. Average volume of semen produced in this study ranged from 0.54-0.88ml; semen pH 6.80-7.12; mass movement score 1.60-3.00; spermatozoa concentration 2.76-4.86 x109/ml; spermatozoa motility 66-79%; Live spermatozoa 91.75-93.10%, and spermatozoa abnormalities 1.75-2.51%. Semen from Sentul males aged 48-68 weeks had a thick consistency and cloudy white in color. At the age of 78 weeks, the consistency varies from thick, medium and liquid. The color of semen in Sentul males aged 78 weeks also varied from clear white to cream. It is concluded that aging in Sentul roosters causes reproductive disorders which are characterized by low sperm quality. The best quality spermatozoa were produced by Sentul roosters aged 58-68 weeks.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of chicken age and type of cage on the hen house, feed efficiency, mortality and livability of laying hens. This research is an experimental study using 20000 laying hens. This study used a 2x5 factorial completely randomized design (CRD). The two factors were the age of the chickens (U) (30, 50 and 70 weeks) and the type of cage (K) (open house and close house). Based on the results of statistical analysis, it was found that the cage type had a very significant effect (p<0.01) on hen hpuse, feed efficiency, mortality and livability. Chicken age had a very significant effect (p<0.01) on hen house, feed efficiency and livability and significantly (p<0.05) on mortality. The interaction between the two has a very significant effect (p<0.01) on hen house, feed efficiency, mortality and livability. The average hen house obtained in this study ranged from 74.33-89.43%; feed efficiency 61.78-75.95%; mortality 0.01-0.35% and livability 81.83-98.33%. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the interaction between laying hens age and cage type is closely related to hen house value, feed efficiency, mortality and livability. The best results were obtained from the interaction of chickens aged 30 weeks in a close house cage
