Abstract

Abstract This research aims to observe the distribution and changes in the area of mangrove vegetation in Jawai District, Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan Province. This sub-district is part of the administrative area of Sambas Regency and is one of 6 sub-districts that have coastal regions. The data used in this research is Landsat 8 satellite imagery, recording data from 2016 and 2022. The results of the data analysis show that of the total of 13 villages, only one village did not find mangrove vegetation in its area, namely Dungun Laut Village. Based on the analysis of the distribution of mangrove vegetation in 12 villages, there are two villages, namely Mutus Darussalam and Sarang Burung Danau, which show a decrease in the area of mangrove vegetation cover. Both experienced a reduction in the area of 0.184 ha and 42,081 ha, respectively. During 2016 and 2022, the lowest mangrove vegetation area was in Sentebang Village, 2,768 ha and 19,112 ha. The highest area of mangrove vegetation is increasing in Sarang Burung Kolam Village, with an area of 188,889 ha (2016) and 212,335 ha (2022). These findings show the importance of conservation in protecting the mangrove ecosystem in this area.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify early childhood teachers' perceptions of STEAM-based learning. This qualitative research will be analyzed descriptively, and semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions will be conducted with four early childhood education (ECE) teachers in Banda Aceh. The findings show that ECE teachers' perceptions of STEAM-based learning techniques have a high potential to be implemented in Banda Aceh City ECEs, as the respondents have used aspects of STEAM in their learning. Teachers' lack of knowledge of STEAM-based learning approaches and procurement of materials and funds to fulfil STEAM learning needs are barriers to integrating STEAM in ECE institutions in Banda Aceh. More STEAM socialization and STEAM learning implementation training is needed for ECE teachers in Aceh in general.

Abstract

Based on data from the BPS of Sambas Regency, there was a significant increase of 0.85 points in the Human Development Index (HDI) in 2022, particularly in the education dimension. To maintain this momentum, it is essential to continuously improve the quality of education and the application of technology in the educational field. Through the integration of Computational Thinking (CT) into the curriculum, students are expected to gain a strong understanding of technology while enhancing the digital literacy of the younger generation. One of the methods used is the introduction of programming code using the Scratch application, which has been introduced at SMP Negeri 5 Sambas. However, this has primarily been in the form of theoretical module introduction, indicating a need for more practical experience rather than just theoretical knowledge to ensure a deeper understanding, especially considering the limitations of computer lab facilities. Politeknik Negeri Sambas plays a crucial role in preparing the younger generation to face digital literacy challenges by providing training and implementing the latest technologies, as directed through community service programs at SMP Negeri 5 Sambas. All these efforts aim to ensure that students are better prepared and competent to face the challenges and opportunities of the digital era.

Abstract

Housing development in disaster-prone areas faces various legal challenges related to developer responsibility and consumer protection. This research aims to analyze the limits of developer responsibility in providing housing that complies with technical standards and the legal implications for the protection of consumers who experience losses. This research uses a normative juridical method with a statutory approach (statue approach) and case (case approach). The research results show that even though there are regulations governing standards for disaster-resistant buildings, such as Law Number 28 of 2002 concerning Buildings and Law Number 1 of 2011 concerning Housing and Settlement Areas, there are still many developers who ignore these standards for the sake of cost efficiency. In some cases, developers can be relieved of responsibility by pretexting force majeure which makes it difficult for consumers to obtain compensation. To protect consumers, strengthening regulations, increasing government supervision, and more effective dispute resolution mechanisms are needed. With clearer legal certainty, it is hoped that a balance between developer interests and consumer rights can be realized.

Abstract

Aphid (A. gossypii) is the major pest of okra. It took the top position among all the vegetable pests. The study assessed the effectiveness of synthetic insecticides for controlling sucking insect pests and their natural enemies in okra cultivation. Conducted at the Agriculture University, Peshawar, the experiment employed a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with five treatments: Deltamethrin, Malathion, Lambda-Cyhalothrin, Emamectin Benzoate, and a control. Infestation levels were recorded before spraying and at regular intervals after application. Results showed that Emamectin Benzoate was the most effective, consistently achieving the lowest infestation levels compared to other treatments. It reduced infestation from 81.75 before spraying to 43.53 after 15 days. It also resulted in the highest yield (3,900.59 kg/ha), outperforming other insecticides, such as Deltamethrin (2,978.56 kg/ha), Malathion (2,888.44 kg/ha), and Lambda Cyhalothrin (2,505.55 kg/ha). The control group had the lowest yield (526.70 kg/ha). Emamectin Benzoate also supported the growth of beneficial ladybird beetles, particularly Coccinella transversalis and C. septempunctata, whose populations peaked in week 3. Emamectin Benzoate was the most effective insecticide for managing sucking pests and improving yield in okra cultivation, supporting its role in integrated pest management strategies.
