Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the placement of Islamic bank funds on government assets, the placement of Islamic bank funds at the central bank and the influence of Islamic bank funds on non-government assets on the profitability of Islamic banks. The method is quantitative with a multiple regression statistical model and the Stata version 13 as the statistical software. Based on data processing on research variables it was found that investment in state sukuk had a negative and significant effect on return on assets. Furthermore, the variable investment in securities in Bank Indonesia instruments has a positive and significant impact, while investment in sukuk corporates has a positive effect that is not significant. Therefore Sharia Banks must be able to select investment options in placing their excess funds to maintain bank reputation and performance so that public trust increases with the functions and contributions of Islamic banks.

Abstract

The existence of Islamic banks as one part of Islamic financial institutions should contribute to improving the economy, one of which is to reduce poverty. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of financing variables, asset variables, and Islamic bank office variables on poverty levels. The sample used to be Islamic Commercial Banks (BUS) in the 2013-2017 period, with a total of 110 samples. The methodology used is quantitative with multiple regression statistical analysis and statistical data processing using SPSS software version 20. The results of the study note that financing has a negative and significant effect, namely, the higher the financing of Islamic banks, it will reduce poverty. However, the total assets and the number of networks that have a positive and significant effect, namely the increase in total assets and branch networks, it will affect the increasing amount of poverty. That is because the assets of Islamic banks are supported by the majority savings and the not optimal yet of distribution of financing from Islamic banks to the community. Also, the existence of the Islamic branch office tends to be found in provincial capitals and big cities, so that the communities in rural and remote areas are still not reached by Islamic banks.

Abstract

Islamic banks have the aim of providing benefit to all humankind. Therefore, to measure the performance of Islamic banks, different indicators are needed from conventional banks. One of the indicators that can be used to measure Islamic banks' performance is the Islamic performance ratio (IPR). This study aims to determine the factors that influence IPR. By employing moderated regression analysis with the panel data of 7 Islamic commercial banks during 2012-2017, this study found that several factors are significantly influencing the performance of Islamic banks as indicated by the IPR indicator. That is the return on asset ratio (ROA) which has a positive direct effect on IPR and non-performing financing (NPF) that becomes a moderating variable for the effect of financing to deposit ratio (FDR) on IPR that weakens FDR’s effect. Although the NPF does not have a direct influence on the performance of Islamic banks, Islamic banks still have to be careful with NPF, because it can reduce the effect of FDR on the performance of Islamic banks.
