Abstract

Introduction: Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health challenge in Indonesia. Limited knowledge among patients and families regarding TB transmission, prevention, and treatment adherence contributes to persistent cases, including those reported at Madani Regional General Hospital, Palu. Strengthening health education is essential to improve disease control efforts. Objective: This community service program aimed to enhance patients’ and families’ understanding of Pulmonary Tuberculosis, including its definition, clinical manifestations, modes of transmission, prevention strategies, appropriate treatment, and the consequences of non-adherence to therapy. Method: The activity was conducted in the Durian Ward of Madani Hospital through health education sessions using lectures, discussions, leaflet distribution, and demonstrations. Knowledge improvement was assessed using oral pre- and post-tests involving TB patients and their accompanying family members. Result: The program resulted in a substantial increase in participant knowledge. Pre-test findings revealed that only about 20% of participants could correctly answer basic questions about TB. Post-intervention, approximately 90% demonstrated accurate understanding of the presented material and were able to apply preventive practices, such as correct handwashing and mask usage. Participants expressed commitment to practicing prevention at home and during hospital visits. Conclusion: The community service intervention effectively improved patient and family knowledge regarding Pulmonary Tuberculosis. Continuous educational efforts by healthcare professionals are crucial to reinforcing treatment adherence and reducing transmission risk within healthcare and community settings.

Abstract

Nursing services are an integral part of healthcare delivery and play a critical role in improving hospital service quality. Nurses, as the healthcare professionals who interact most frequently with patients, have a strategic role in determining the quality of nursing services, particularly in internal medicine inpatient wards. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the role of nurses and the quality of nursing services in the Internal Medicine Ward of Eduardo Ximenes Regional Hospital (HoREX) Baucau, Timor-Leste. This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of nurses working in the Internal Medicine Ward of HoREX Baucau, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire assessing nurses’ roles in nursing services and analyzed using statistical tests with SPSS software. The findings showed that the role of nurses in nursing services was categorized as good. Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between nurses’ roles and the quality of nursing services, as evidenced by statistically significant test results. Nurses’ roles have a significant contribution to improving the quality of nursing services. Strengthening and optimizing nurses’ roles through managerial support and continuous evaluation are essential to achieve high-quality nursing services and improved patient satisfaction.

Chi-Square statistical test results showed ? (0,000) <? 0.05.Conclusion: It could concluded that there was a relationship between the nutritional pattern of the puerperal mother with the healing of perineal wounds. High caloric, protein, fluid and mineral intake and vitamins in the puerperium mother will accelerate the process of new cell regeneration so that the puerperal perineal wound heals faster. Abstract

Background: Early of initiation breastfeeding (EIB) can reduce the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR). The COVID-19 pandemic reduced early initiation of breastfeeding activities. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to essential services such as breastfeeding counseling in hospitals has been disrupted. Purpose: The purpose of this study is that researchers want to examine the implementation of the EIB by health workers in the maternity room of "Aisyiyah Ponorogo" General Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The research used was qualitative with a case study design. The social situation in this study was delivery support health workers in the Maternity Room and Perinatology Room with informants consisting of five implementing midwives and six implementing nurses. The data collection process was carried out until the data collected experienced data saturation. Data validity was tested using source triangulation, namely patients who gave birth at "Aisyiyah Ponorogo" General Hospital. Results: EIB at 'Aisyiyah Ponorogo General Hospital has always been applied to newborns since 2010 and underwent adjustments during COVID-19 pandemic. The EIB was not implemented due to several conditions which made it impossible. Supporting factors for the implementation of early initiation of breastfeeding are the number and ability of health workers and the facilities available from both the hospital and the patient's family. The obstacle in this study is the perinatology room which is located far away so that the nurses in the perinatology department have difficulty carrying out several tasks at once which will cause a discrepancy in the duration of EIB implementation. Conclusion: Collaboration between the hospital, health workers, and the community is needed in an effort to increase the implementation of EIB. Starting from the existence of policies from the Hospital, the ability of health workers and the willingness of the community to improve the implementation of EIB.

Abstract

Community knowledge plays a crucial role in preventing heart disease. This community service activity, conducted by doctoral students of the Public Health Program at Universitas Strada Indonesia in collaboration with the Dewan Kesenian Blambangan of Banyuwangi Regency, aimed to enhance knowledge regarding heart disease prevention among Gandrung artists in Banyuwangi. The activity was delivered through a workshop utilizing lectures and interactive discussions. A total of 30 participants, consisting of Gandrung dancers, musicians, and make-up artists, took part in the program. Participants' knowledge was assessed using pre-test and post-test evaluations. The results demonstrated a significant improvement, with the proportion of participants possessing good knowledge increasing from 6.67% to 83.33% after the workshop. These findings confirm that a culturally based Gandrung education program is efficacious in improving participants' knowledge. The integration of health education with local wisdom successfully created a model that is both relevant and well-received by the community. This activity highlights that health education through the Gandrung cultural approach serves as an effective and innovative strategy to enhance public knowledge and understanding of heart disease prevention.

Abstract

Low awareness of early detection has serious impacts. Individually, a delay in diagnosing TB can cause the disease to become severe and infect those closest to you, while HIV that is detected late will progress to the deadly AIDS stage.. One of them is in the community working area of the Jajag Health Center which is located in Gambiran District, Banyuwangi Regency. This community service activity aims to increase the congregation's knowledge and awareness regarding Tuberculosis (TB) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), especially regarding early symptoms, transmission methods, and the importance of early detection, which is held during the fasting month through the Ramadhan Safari activity. This community service activity utilizes a community-based health education approach, implemented through a combination of outreach, participatory discussions, and voluntary screening services. The program successfully increased participants' knowledge of the symptoms, transmission, and importance of early detection of infectious diseases. The implementation of these activities also demonstrated that approaches through religious communities are effective in reaching communities that previously had limited access to health information. In addition to providing knowledge, these activities have begun to encourage changes in public attitudes toward health screening and foster collective awareness of the importance of disease prevention
