Abstract

Stunting is a child's height growth that is shorter than their age. Wasting is the development of a child's weight that is too thin to their height. In 2019, the prevalence of Stunting cases that occurred in the world was 21.3%, and the prevalence of Wasting cases was 6.9%. The pandemic situation has disrupted nutritional services, especially in health service facilities and integrated health posts, due to the lack of community mobility. This study aims to determine the risk factors for stunting and wasting in toddlers during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study is descriptive analytical with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study were toddlers under two years of age. The sample in this study was 93 using a purposive sampling technique. The data collection method was carried out using a validated questionnaire and interviews using the Chi-Square statistical test. The results of the analysis showed that the most dominant risk factor for Stunting was Exclusive Breastfeeding (OR = 9.37; 95% CI: 2.14-40.86; p = 0.003); The most dominant risk factor for Wasting is Environmental Sanitation (OR=16.44; 95%CI: 3.68-73.47; p=0.000) and the most dominant risk factor for Stunting plus Wasting is Environmental Sanitation (OR=3.86; 95%CI: 1.39-10.75; p=0.009). For Nutrition Program Managers, it is important to improve the nutritional status and nutrient intake levels of the community, especially after the pandemic ends.

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the relationship between stunting and completeness of immunization among children under five years old in Indonesia. The study used a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach, utilizing secondary data from the Indonesian Family Life Study (IFLS) V big data in 2014. The sample consisted of children aged 12-59 months from 13 provinces in Indonesia, representing 83% of the total population. Data were analyzed using SPSS and STATA programs. Statistical analysis was performed to determine the association between immunization status and stunting. The results showed a significant statistical relationship (p-value <0.05) between immunization status and stunting occurrence among children aged 12-59 months in Indonesia, with a p-value of 0.001 and a PR value of 1.2 (95% CI: 1.14-1.6). Children who receive incomplete immunization have a 1.2 times greater risk of stunting compared to those who receive complete immunization. The study concluded that completeness of immunization is associated with stunting among children under five years old in Indonesia. Therefore, it is essential to ensure complete immunization coverage to prevent stunting in this population.

Abstract

Stunting is a disorder of growth and development of children affected by chronic nutrient deficiency, repeated infections and lack of stimulation during the first 1000 days of a child's life. This study aims to examine the effect of breastfeeding and birth weight with the incidence of stunting in children under five. The case control study design was used for 116 children under five, namely 53 cases and 53 controls, in the working area of the Darul Imarah Health Center Aceh Besar. Data characteristics, early brestfeeding initiation, exclusive breastfeeding, duration of breastfeeding were collected by interview method, birth weight was collected from birth records in the MCH book, and stunting data was collected by anthropometric measurements determined by the HAZ index based on the z-score, stunting if the z-score value <-2 SD. Data analysis was performed bivariate and multivariate using binary logistic regression test at 95% confidence level. The results showed that exclusive breastfeeding and LBW were risk factors for stunting in under five children. Children who are not exclusively breastfed are at risk of 4.57 times greater risk of stunting than children who are exclusively breastfed (OR=4.57; 95% CI; 1.57-13.27), and children born with low birth weight have a 9.43 times greater risk of stunting than children born with normal weight (OR=9.43: 95% CI; 3.54-25.12). Efforts are needed to increase the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding through education and promotion of breastfeeding, as well as improving the health of pregnant women to prevent LBW babies, so as to reduce the incidence of stunting. since early stage.
