Abstract

Childbirth is a natural process for women, but some conditions, exceptionally high risks, might elevate the likelihood of difficulties during pregnancy, childbirth, or afterwards. Maternal age, primiparity, and Cesarean section delivery provide a risk for several problems in the mother. This case study aims to examine and implement nursing care for primigravida mothers at high risk who have undergone a Cesarean section. The stages of a case study involve defining the case, selecting a case, gathering and analyzing data, interpreting data, and presenting results. Data collection involved interviews and physical examinations, reviewing health documentation, Talking with patients and families, and gathering information from other healthcare professionals. Data analysis included examining the collected data, identifying critical information, comparing the data, and presenting a summary in the form of a case study. Outcome: A 39-year-old primiparous woman who underwent a Cesarean section reported postpartum bleeding of approximately 1000 cc/24 hours, anaemia, emotional instability, and difficulty in caring for her baby and fulfilling her responsibilities. Nurses perform nursing interventions to address complications, such as preventing bleeding, treating anaemia, promoting relaxation for emotional stability, providing education through engaging and comprehensible media, and enhancing the mother’s role, particularly in breastfeeding, through hypno-breastfeeding techniques. Pregnant women with risk factors who undergo Cesarean sections are known to experience both physical and psychological difficulties. Effective nursing interventions that address physical and psychological elements, new roles, and prevention of complications lead to successful resolution of the issue, allowing the mother and infant to be discharged in good health

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparison of health education on breastfeeding techniques using video media with leaflets on the prevention of sore nipples in postpartum mothers. The research method used was quasi-experimental with a two-group pre-test-posttest design. The research results show a comparison of knowledge and skills in leaflet media and video media after education, namely that there is no significant difference in understanding with a p-value of 0.301. Still, there is a substantial difference in skills with a p-value of 0.008; video media health education influences skills. Postpartum mothers should use breastfeeding techniques because they attract more attention and provide auditory and visual stimuli simultaneously to maximize results. In conclusion, video media health education can be used to improve the skills of postpartum mothers so that video media can be an alternative for delivering information to postpartum mothers. Abstract

Caesarea Section (CS) delivery causes short and long term complications, as well as death that can occur during intraoperative, post-operative, or subsequent pregnancies. Many studies have been conducted on the causes of cesarean delivery, but research on the factors that cause cesarean delivery is still limited, especially in primigravidas. Primigravidas have a higher risk of experiencing CS related to the physical and psychological condition of the mother. This study aims to analyze the factors that cause cesarean delivery in primigravida. A retrospective case control study at Idaman Hospital was conducted in October – November 2020 with research ethics number 466/UN6.KEP/EC/2021. Data was collected from the medical records of 588 primigravidas divided into SC (n=294) and normal (294) deliveries between 2017-2019. Data were analyzed using chi square and logistic regression. The results of the analysis showed that there was a relationship between labor induction (p=0.000), prolonged labor (p=0.001), premature rupture of membranes (p=0.001), cephalopelvic disproportion (CPD) (p=0.000), and umbilical cord entanglement (p= 0.048) with faults in primigravida. The most correlated multivariate factor was CPD Exp (B) = 18.741. Vaginal delivery is still possible in some cases after proper assessment and under close supervision. CS delivery is carried out to help with the birth process which is experiencing complications. Knowing the causal factors associated with cesarean delivery is expected to provide health education information to mothers to carry out routine antenatal care. Early detection of factors causing cesarean delivery in primigravida, as preparation for childbirth. Keywords: Caesarean section, logistic models, medical records, primigravidae

Abstract

Higher education, as a centre for research and innovation in the era of transformative learning, is encouraged to conduct research and innovation that can lead to innovation and impact in the areas of health, economy, and sustainability. Innovation requires a framework that functions as an essential guide for development. However, limited innovation frameworks can be applied in nursing, including maternity nursing. This study discusses the M-Motion framework as an alternative framework for developing maternity nursing innovation research. M-Motion comprises of three steps of: pre-innovation, innovation, and post-innovation and it is applied to the Ultralight Project. The project aims to improve pregnancy and fetal health by using the DetectMe device to integrate mothers’ self-monitoring data into online health systems so that the condition of pregnant women and their babies is promptly and accurately monitored. The application of the M-Motion framework to the Ultralight Project is a step in the right direction as it helps in illustrating the sequence between research and innovation, especially as it relates to the acceleration of reducing maternal and fetal mortality rates.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the highest case in women every year. Breast cancer can attack all age groups including adolescents. Breast self-examination behavior (BSE) is one of the most effective methods of early detection of breast cancer. One of the factors that influence the practice of BSE in young women is peer support. Aims: to determine the relationship of peer support with breast self-examination behavior (BSE) in adolescents. Design of this study was the descriptive correlational. The sample consisted of 219 students of SMAN Sumedang with proportionate random sampling technique. The instrument of this study was the BSE behavior and peer support questionnaires. The instrument was tested for validity and reliability, the result was a validity test 0.3 and a reliability test of 0.9. Result: the majority of respondents (80.8%) did not practice BSE, peer support to almost all teenage girls (91.3%) in the low support category. Peer support and BSE behavior in young girls had a significant relationship (sig. 2-tailed = 0,000). Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the   practice of BSE and peer support in teenage girls were in low category, there was a significant relationship between the two. It is hoped that health workers can collaborate with schools to provide continuous health education about the importance of BSE for young women.

Abstract

Indonesia is the third country with the highest maternal mortality rate (MMR) in Southeast Asia and has not yet reached the SDGs target. Many maternal deaths in Indonesia are caused by pregnancy complications. Information on factors that influence pregnancy complications in Indonesia is still limited, especially those that use large amounts of data. The purpose of this study was to analyse the factors that influence the occurrence of pregnancy complications in provinces with different MMR levels, namely Papua, West Java and DKI Jakarta. This study used a descriptive correlational design using secondary data from the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Surveys (IDHS). Data were obtained from the official website, dhsprogram.com. The population in the study was women of reproductive age (WRA) in Indonesia. Sampling used cluster sampling technique. Inclusion criteria were WUS aged 15-49 years who had or were experiencing pregnancy in the last 5 years when the survey was conducted, namely 1,451 samples. The analysis conducted was univariate analysis to describe the proportion of pregnancy complications and data distribution based on the independent variables studied and bivariate chi square analysis to see the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. The findings showed that the majority of WRA from the three provinces experienced uncomplicated pregnancies. Bivariate analysis showed no significant association between age, parity, birth interval, education level, smoking lifestyle, antenatal care visits, and husband support with pregnancy complications among women in Papua and DKI Jakarta provinces. Meanwhile, in West Java Province there was a significant association between smoking lifestyle and pregnancy complications, however, the other six factors were not associated. The study concluded that pregnancy complications are influenced by other factors that more strongly affect pregnancy complications. It is recommended for future research to examine other variables that have not been studied in this study. In addition, strategic planning is also needed to reduce the number of high-risk pregnant women in the provinces of Papua, West Java, and DKI Jakarta.

Abstract

Background: Preeclampsia is one of the leading causes of high maternal and child mortality worldwide, including Indonesia. Comprehensive studies on the application of non-pharmacological approach in reducing preeclampsia symptoms are still limited. This review aims to identify the effectiveness of non-pharmacological nursing interventions for preeclampsia in pregnant women. Methods: A literature search was conducted to identify relevant articles in three databases of PubMed, EBSCOHost, and Scopus. The studies reviewed were in English on the effectiveness of various non-pharmacological interventions for pregnant women with preeclampsia. The article selection was in accordance to the PRISMA guidelines for scoping reviews using the terms (“preeclampsia” OR “pre-eclampsia”) AND (“nursing intervention” OR “nursing care”) AND (“blood pressure” OR “blood pressure determination” OR “arterial pressure”). Selected studies were based on original research, either a randomized clinical tial or quasi-experimental studies, focusd on pregnant women or mothers with preeclampsia, and were published in the last ten years (2014-2024). Journal eligibility was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal. Results: The number of articles reviewed was seven. Findings suggest that pharmacologic management plays an important role in the control of preeclampsia, but non-pharmacologic interventions also provide significant benefits with a lower risk of adverse effects. Various non-pharmacological interventions that have been proven effective in reducing blood pressure in pregnant women with preeclampsia are Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR), breathing exercise, stretching exercise, autogenic training, and foot massage. Conclusion: Integration of non-pharmacological interventions in the management of preeclampsia is very important to reduce blood pressure and improve maternal and fetal well-being. Expanding the implementation of the interventions mentioned in the study should be done in further studies to measure its effects on the quality of life of the pregnant women and their compliance in preeclampsia management. Keywords: Nursing interventions, Preeclampsia, Pregnancy
