Abstract

The WPECT instrument has been globally tested for its quality in diagnosing student misconceptions. However, this instrument cannot be directly used in the Indonesian cultural context due to language differences. Therefore, a cross-cultural adaptation process is required. This study aims to adapt and cross-culturally validate a four-tier diagnostic test on the concepts of Work, Power, and Energy using the Rasch model (1PL) based on item difficulty estimation. The research was conducted using a quantitative survey method involving 125 students from SMA Negeri 1 Jetis. The focus of the study is to adapt and validate the 4-tier Work, Power, and Energy instrument to the Indonesian context. The analysis results show that the item reliability index is 0.87 and the Cronbach's Alpha is 0.81, indicating a high level of internal consistency within the instrument. The distribution of item difficulty is spread across four categories, with the majority of items classified as difficult. Twelve out of thirteen items meet the Rasch model fit criteria, while one item can still be retained as its outfit MNSQ value remains below the acceptable threshold (< 2.0). The instrument also fulfills the assumption of unidimensionality, as all 13 items measure a single underlying construct—namely, the concept of work, power, and energy. Furthermore, no gender-based item bias was detected. Therefore, the four-tier diagnostic test on the topic of work and energy is suitable for identifying misconceptions among high school students in Indonesia, validly and equitably. The availability of this adapted instrument can help educators in Indonesia more accurately diagnose student misconceptions and design more targeted instructional interventions.

Abstract

Economic disparities and variations in geographical conditions in Indonesia exacerbate access to physics laboratories. Therefore, innovative solutions such as remote physics laboratories are needed to bridge this gap and provide more equitable access to students across the region, regardless of economic or geographical conditions. To overcome this, this research aims to develop a remote physics laboratory for equitable access to quality physics experiments. This research includes 4D model development research. The research subjects involved five students for the functionality test, 84 people for the user test, and ten media experts to assess the feasibility of the product. The instruments used include functionality test instruments, media expert assessments, and usefulness, satisfaction, and ease of use (USE) questionnaires. Tool functionality data and media expert validation were analyzed using the Aiken V technique. At the same time, the level of user acceptance was examined through a combination of Wright maps and logit item values. This development resulted in a remote physics experiment architecture and device with a good functionality assessment index. The assessment by media experts showed high validity. The level of user acceptance is classified in the medium to high category. Thus, the developed R-PhyLab has the potential to be an effective medium in equalizing access to quality physics laboratories in educational institutions that face economic limitations and unfavorable geographical conditions.

Abstract

Spin angular momentum is an abstract concept in quantum mechanics that often causes conceptual and mathematical difficulties for Physics Education students. The limited availability of specific teaching materials tailored to the characteristics of prospective teachers has prompted the need to develop structured and contextual modules. This study aims to develop a quantum mechanics module on spin angular momentum that is suitable and appropriate for undergraduate Physics Education students. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model limited to the Development stage. The research subjects consisted of two Physics Education lecturers as validators and eleven students who had taken the Quantum Mechanics course. The instruments were expert validation questionnaires and student acceptance questionnaires using a 4-point Likert scale, while the data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively in the form of percentages. The expert validation results showed a very feasible category in terms of material (94.4%), usefulness (87.5%), presentation (85.7%), and language (75%), as well as a feasible category in terms of graphics (71.8%). The student acceptance test showed a very satisfied category in all aspects, with percentages ranging from 89.20% to 94.31%. Thus, the developed module was declared feasible and very well accepted as self-learning material, and has the potential to support the strengthening of students' conceptual understanding.

Abstract

The velocity of the rolling motion is influenced by the shape of the object and its rotating axis. The cylinder motion on inclined plane has been investigated by number of research. However, the water filled cylinder need to be investigated further especially on the possibility moving sliding and rolling. Numerical study has been carried out on water filled cylinder modelling of frictionless sliding motion of point object, frictionless rolling motion, and rolling motion with friction on an inclined plane. By using the Euler method, data processing is carried out with the Scilab application. The resulting graph from running Scilab coding is a graph of v vs t and x vs t. We found the frictionless sliding motion produces the greatest velocity and distance because it is not influenced by friction and the object’s moment of inertia. Solid cylinder rolling with friction on an inclined plane produces the smallest velocity and distance due to the influence of friction and the moment of inertia of the object. These results indicate that a water filled cylinder can be considered a solid cylinder if ignoring all internal motion of water inside the cylinder.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate students' conceptual understanding in the field of physics, focusing on the concepts of heat and temperature, using the Person Diagnostic Map (PKMAPs) approach. This method allows individual assessment of students' conceptual understanding, going beyond the limitations of conventional analysis methods that focus on groups. This research used a survey involving eight students from a private university in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data was collected through a multiple-choice test of 20 items, processed using Ms. Excel and Winsteps 4.6.1. The research results show that PKMAPs are effective in identifying individual student understanding, including detecting "correct" response patterns resulting from guessing or cheating, as well as "incorrect" response patterns caused by incompetence or inaccuracy. This information allows educators to determine appropriate teaching methods, including remediation, re-teaching, or enrichment, according to each student's individual needs. This research concludes that using the Person Diagnostic Map in the context of physics education provides a more personal and effective approach to analyzing students' conceptual understanding. This method provides deeper insight into students' individual strengths and weaknesses, facilitating more focused and effective learning planning.

Abstract

The implementation of inclusive education in early childhood education settings requires innovative pedagogical strategies capable of accommodating children’s diverse learning needs while supporting their cognitive, socio-emotional, and metacognitive development. Previous research on STEAM and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) has primarily focused on creativity and cognitive achievement, with limited attention to how inclusivity is implemented through adaptive pedagogical practices in heterogeneous early childhood classrooms. Furthermore, the use of loose parts as flexible learning materials in inclusive STEAM–PBL learning remains underexplored. Therefore, this study aims to examine how inclusive pedagogical principles are implemented through the integration of STEAM, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and loose parts-based activities in early childhood education. This study employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and documentation involving teachers and children during the learning process. The instruments used in this study included interview guidelines, classroom observation sheets, and documentation notes focusing on inclusive STEAM–PBL implementation. Findings indicate that the integration of STEAM–PBL and flexible materials supports inclusive learning through contextual problem-solving activities, interest-based collaboration, responsive scaffolding, dialogic presentations, and reflective practices. Children demonstrated increased participation, communication skills, collaborative engagement, self-confidence, persistence in problem-solving, and emerging metacognitive awareness. The use of flexible materials enabled children with diverse abilities to explore, represent, and communicate ideas according to their individual capacities. This study highlights the uniqueness of inclusive STEAM–PBL implementation through adaptive scaffolding, flexible learning materials, and reflective participation practices that support meaningful and participatory learning experiences in early childhood classrooms.
