Abstract

Abstract

The language skills that will be a careful focus in this research are pronunciation skills. The object of research is Thai learners with Indonesian teachers as teachers and researchers. Data was analyzed using the observation method, namely jumping in and looking directly at the subject and object of interest. By using direct methods in teaching, the data obtained shows the ability of Thai learners to pronounce Indonesian vocabulary. This research is qualitative research looking at pronunciation ability as evidence of the success of teaching methods. At the first meeting of class VIII students, it was found that 5 out of 16 students knew simple Malaysian Malay, which was only spoken, not written. At the second meeting, 2 out of 16 students were able to spell names in Indonesian. In the third meeting, students were able to write their names in Indonesian and pronounce the alphabet. At the fourth meeting, errors were found in reading the text of 3 words on the blackboard, such as the word "saudara" being read as "suadara", "bersih" being read as "berseh" and several words with vowel combinations which made it difficult for the students to read the text. At the fifth meeting, students were able to read writing in one paragraph with several pronunciation errors, such as the letter C being pronounced SI. From this data it is known that the ability to pronounce Indonesian vocabulary by Thai learners has increased with each meeting.

Abstract

This research explores the implementation and management of the teaching factory (TEFA) models at Vocational High School (SMK) St. Mikael, Surakarta, Indonesia. The research focuses on the management of production units owned by the school and how the school collaborated in industrial cooperation with relevant enterprises. A qualitative approach with a case study method was employed, collecting data through documentation, interviews, and observation. The findings reveal that the teaching factory is implemented through block schedules and job sheets to enhance student skills, with professional management of the production unit. Additionally, the industrial cooperation bridged by the school and its business partners has involved apprenticeships, product marketing, worker deployment, and industrial work visits. Among these four programs, apprenticeships are believed to be the most effective in enhancing students' vocational competencies. Implementing the TEFA model has assisted the school in equipping its students with competencies aligned with the industrial demands for qualified and competent workers. The study suggests that other vocational schools implementing TEFA might consider managing their production unit by employing block schedules and job sheets in the production unit, and building industrial partnerships to address the demand of the current industry trends.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Latin alphabet usage on the vocabulary writing skills and science understanding of Thai Malay among Mattaeom 1 students at Ban Padungmat School, Thailand. A qualitative descriptive method was employed using participatory observation and documentation techniques on 25 students. The findings reveal that students face significant challenges in writing vocabulary due to differences in graphemic and phonological systems between the Latin alphabet and Thai script. Three dominant types of errors were identified: graphemic errors (72%), phonological errors (80%), and mixed usage of Latin and Thai characters (60%). These errors are influenced by negative transfer from the mother tongue and low adaptation to the Latin script. The study emphasizes the need for a contextual and phonetic-based learning approach in teaching the Latin alphabet to bilingual students. It recommends more intensive phonological and graphemic training to enhance vocabulary writing accuracy in Thai Malay.

Abstract

This ability is not only important for academic success, but also essential for students to face complex problems in everyday life. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Giving Question and Getting Answer model in improving students' critical thinking skills. The research design used a posttest-only control group design experiment. The research instrument was a critical thinking ability test that included the dimensions of analysis, evaluation, and problem solving. Data were analyzed using a t-test to compare the average posttest results of the two groups. The results of this study are that the use of the Giving Question and Getting Answer (GQGA) model has proven effective in improving students' critical thinking skills. The GQGA model is suitable for implementation at the elementary school level because it is in accordance with the needs of students to learn through interactions involving cognitive and social aspects. With the right approach, this model is able to overcome the limitations of traditional learning methods that do not support the development of students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study examines the use of speech acts by Indonesian adolescents in digital communication, particularly through comments on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. The study aims to identify the types of speech acts commonly used, examine how the digital context influences the forms and strategies of these utterances, and explore the socio-cultural meanings embedded in these interactions. A qualitative descriptive method was used with data collected from 150 naturalistic comments made by adolescents aged 13–19. The analysis was conducted using Searle's speech act theory, focusing on contextual categorization and interpretation. The findings indicate that representative and expressive speech acts are the most frequently used, followed by directive, commissive, and declarative speech acts. The digital environment shapes linguistic expression through unique features such as emoticons, informal spelling, and visual-emotional reinforcers. These linguistic choices are influenced by the immediate, informal, and performative nature of online interactions. The results also indicate that speech acts on social media reflect adolescents' construction of identity, group affiliation, and shared cultural norms in the digital space. This study concludes that social media serves not only as a communication tool but also as a platform for socio-cultural expression among adolescents. Further studies could explore variations in usage across platforms or different demographic groups.
