Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum promotes contextual learning through the use of local culture as part of the learning process. However, the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum that integrates Banjar culture to enhance elementary students' environmental awareness still requires further investigation. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Banjar culture-based Merdeka Curriculum in enhancing the environmental awareness of fourth-grade students at SDN Murung Raya 5. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with a purposively selected classroom teacher and documentation of the interview process. The findings show that the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum was supported by the development of flexible teaching modules, the use of digital media such as Smart TVs and projectors, and diverse learning strategies to accommodate the needs of students with special educational needs. The integration of Banjar local wisdom was implemented through local language learning, the creation of traditional rhymes and poetry, and local food programs. Meanwhile, students' environmental awareness was developed through practical habituation programs, including Clean Saturday, Healthy Saturday, and waste-sorting habits. The findings imply that the use of local culture in learning can serve as a relevant strategy to support the strengthening of character education and environmental education in elementary schools.

Abstract

This article analyzes the low critical thinking skills of students in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at SDN Pengambangan 9. This study aims to identify the factors that influence students' thinking activities. Through interviews with teachers, it was found that although the Merdeka Curriculum aims to encourage students to think independently and actively in the learning process, many students are, in fact, less active, not accustomed to working in groups, and tend to be passive in expressing their opinions. Contributing factors include the rapid transition of the curriculum, limitations in infrastructure such as projectors and internet connectivity, and teachers' uneven understanding in applying the new approach. Furthermore, the P5 project, which aims to build character, has created new challenges, particularly in terms of costs and parental participation. Although some teachers acknowledge that the Merdeka Curriculum helps students focus more on specific material, which impacts academic achievement, various obstacles still need to be addressed. The school routinely holds community learning training (kombel) and encourages teachers to attend workshops funded by the BOS (School Operational Assistance). The results of this study recommend improvements in learning facilities, more intensive teacher mentoring, and evaluations of character-based projects to make them more adaptive to school conditions.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum is a reform initiative in Indonesia’s education system designed to align learning processes with current educational demands and the diverse needs, interests, and potentials of students. It is considered relevant to the challenges of 21st-century education by promoting flexibility, autonomy, and differentiated learning. However, its implementation still faces several obstacles, such as limited teacher experience, lack of educational resources, and unequal access to technological infrastructure. This study aims to examine the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in schools and analyze the strategies adopted to overcome these challenges. Identified efforts include independent teacher training, the establishment of learning communities, improved time management in the learning process, and adaptive use of technology. The findings are expected to provide a comprehensive picture of the real dynamics of Merdeka Curriculum implementation and serve as input for its ongoing improvement.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on parental involvement in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, despite its significant impact on students’ academic achievement and character development, especially in elementary schools with limited resources. The study aims to explore the effects of low parental involvement on student learning and to identify its underlying causes at SDN Gadang 2 Banjarmasin. A qualitative case study approach was employed with 10 purposively selected participants, including parents, teachers, and the vice principal. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, field observations, and document analysis, and examined using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that low parental involvement is primarily due to economic hardship, limited education, and social norms that perceive schooling as a mere formality. These results highlight the importance of strong collaboration between families and schools. The study concludes that raising parental awareness and reinforcing synergy among schools, families, and communities are essential to support the success of the Merdeka Curriculum. The research contributes theoretically to the literature on family roles in primary education and practically by recommending continuous parenting programs and intensive curriculum outreach by schools.
