Abstract

Abstract

Small pelagic purse seine vessels in Jakarta are dominated by vessels with a length of 14.5 m. The vessel's hull construction was made by a traditional vesselyard using wood. The construction process only relies on the skills and habits of craftsmen. The choice of engine is only based on the size of the vessel and the price of the engine without calculating resistance. In general, the power of the purse seine main engine as the main mover is not suitable, causing wasteful fuel consumption. The fishing vessel engine used by MV Putra Abadi comes from a modified truck engine so that the fuel used does not comply with specifications. This research aims to determine the amount of power needed to move a Putra Abadi fishing vessel. The method used is direct observation by taking direct measurements of the dimensions of MV Putra Abadi. Next, the engine resistance and power are also calculated using the Holtrop resistance method in software. The Putra Abadi fishing vessel based on hydrostatic calculations showed that the block coefficient (Cb) is 0.425 at a speed of 7 knots, the resulting resistance is 2.5 kN. While at a maximum speed of 8 knots the BHP is 98.82. The power requirement of Putra Abadi fishing vessel according to this calculation is only 46% of the engine power currently used.

Abstract

The increase in solar fuel (diesel) prices poses major challenge for lift net (bagan) fishermen who rely on generators for their fish-attracting lights. This research investigates the effectiveness of the innovative EBT Lamp (Lacuba) powered by a Seawater Battery as an alternative to solar-fueled generators. The primary objective is to evaluate the performance of Lacuba, focusing on the speed of fish attraction and aggregation, as well as the analysis of community indices (diversity, evenness, and dominance) of the catches. Field trial results indicate that Lacuba is significantly more time-efficient. The average time for fish to be attracted was 6.5 minutes (vs. 12.25 minutes with conventional lamps), and the aggregation time was 60 minutes (vs. 77 minutes). Although both systems showed low community index categories, Lacuba registered lower values for diversity (0.2965), evenness (0.1842), and dominance (0.0392) compared to the conventional fishing lamp. Abstract

The waters of Palabuhanratu Bay are fertile and rich with fish resources. For a long time, fishermen have used the fish resources in these waters. Hairtail (Trichiurus sp.) was one of the fish resources in Palabuhanratu Bay that caught by fishermen using handlines. Fishery production landed at Palabuhanratu Fishing Port in 2019 was 5,414,240 kg with a total hairtail production of 314,107 kg. The problem raised in this study was knowing the right hairtail fishing season so that it provides optimum benefits for fishermen. In addition, knowing potential fishing areas could assist fishermen in choosing their fishing time and fishing ground. The purpose of this study was to describe the hairtail fishing unit, to analyze the catch composition of handline, to analyze the fishing season patterns of hairtail fish, and to analyze hairtail fishing ground in Palabuhanratu bay. The results of the analysis showed that the fishing season for hairtail (Trichiurus sp.) in the waters of Palabuhanratu Bay lasts for 5 years with the peak in October. However, the reality is that fishing operations can be carried out throughout the year. The average catch per unit effort (CPUE) of hairtail (Trichiurus sp) duringfishing seasons was 11.32 kg/trip in 2019. The potential fishing ground was in the waters of West Ujung Genteng, Southern waters of Sawarna, Southern waters of Karanghawu and the waters of West Ujung Karang Bentang. Keywords:Fishing season patternHairtail fishFishing groundPalabuhanratu Bay
