Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of in-depth interviews as a method for evaluating digital skills, motivation, and the soft skills of hospitality employees in the digital era. A qualitative approach is used to provide a deeper understanding of employees' intrinsic motivation and soft skills, which are often difficult to measure with technology-based evaluation tools. This study uses qualitative research method with a descriptive approach to gather and analyze the importance of in-depth interview in identifying hotel employee skills. There were five manager and 45 employees at AAA hotel in Nusa Dua. According to research conducted by the World Hospitality Group (2023), 65% of hotel managers reported that employees' interpersonal skills are a key factor in guest satisfaction, while 55% emphasized the importance of motivation derived from job satisfaction and support from the work environment. Deloitte's (2022) study showed that 48% of hotel employees felt their digital skills were insufficient to face challenges in the digital era, yet 70% of employees stated they were motivated to improve those skills if given the right training opportunities. This highlights the importance of a comprehensive approach in human resource management, where in-depth interviews can help uncover training needs that may not always be evident from quantitative data or technical evaluation results. The findings show that in-depth interviews not only help hotel management explore employees' intrinsic motivation but also identify critical soft skills development areas in guest services, such as empathy, communication, and the ability to handle difficult situations. In a case study involving manager of AAA hotel in Bali, it was found that 60% of employees (27) with high soft skills managed to improve guest satisfaction scores. 20% (9 employees) focused on technical skills. This underscores the importance of a holistic approach to human resource evaluation and development in the hospitality sector. This study recommends using in-depth interviews as part of a broader human resource management strategy in the hospitality industry, particularly in identifying and developing employees' interpersonal skills and motivation, which are crucial in the digital era. In-depth interviews have proven effective in uncovering non-technical aspects that significantly contribute to guest satisfaction and the operational success of hotels.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate how job insecurity and workload, both individually and in combination, affected employee work stress at LA Hotel Seminyak during the pandemic. The data for this research were collected through various methods, including observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. A total of 31 respondents participated in the study, and a saturated sampling technique was used. The data analysis involved classical assumption testing, multiple linear regression analysis, t-tests, F-tests, and the determination of the coefficient of determination. The findings of this study revealed that job insecurity, when considered individually, had a positive and statistically significant impact on employee work stress. Similarly, workload, when examined in isolation, also had a positive and significant effect on employee work stress. When both job insecurity and workload were considered together, they collectively had a significant influence on employee work stress. The coefficient of determination test indicated that job insecurity and workload together accounted for 76.0% of the variance in work stress, while the remaining 24.0% was attributed to other variables not addressed in this study.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the roles and challenges of accommodation management in supporting the sustainability of Taro Tourism Village, by examining the integration of cultural, local economic, and environmentally friendly aspects. The research adopts a qualitative approach with a case study method, focusing on field observations, in-depth interviews with homestay managers, village leaders, tourists, and regional policymakers, as well as a literature review based on the pentahelix theory. Data analysis was conducted through source and method triangulation to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of accommodation management in the tourism village. The findings reveal that most accommodations in Taro Tourism Village are still managed conventionally, with a low level of adoption of environmentally friendly practices and digitalization. The local community plays a dominant role in operational aspects but remains less involved in strategic decision-making and digital marketing. This gap has caused accommodations to function suboptimally as instruments of local economic empowerment. Nevertheless, there is great potential for developing community-based homestays through multi-stakeholder (pentahelix) collaboration, integration with digital marketing, and capacity-building in sustainable service and management. Conceptually, this study emphasizes the importance of repositioning accommodation as a strategic element of cultural tourism. Practically, the results offer policy recommendations to strengthen the competitiveness of tourism villages in Bali through the development of accommodations oriented toward sustainability, community participation, and digital technology.

Abstract

The advancement of information technology has reshaped consumer behavior in the tourism and hospitality sectors, particularly in hotel selection. Online reviews on Online Travel Agency (OTA) platforms have become critical sources of information, influencing purchase decisions. This study investigates the effect of online reviews on hotel room purchase intentions in Bali. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 100 purposively sampled respondents who had not previously stayed in Bali hotels but intended to book. Online reviews were measured across three dimensions: credibility, expertise, and pleasantness, while purchase intention was assessed through stimulation, awareness, and information-seeking. Results from descriptive and inferential analyses, including simple linear regression, show that online reviews have a positive and significant impact on purchase intentions. Online reviews explain 37.5% of the variance in purchase intention, indicating their substantial influence, while 62.5% of variance is attributed to other factors. Findings suggest that credible and informative reviews enhance consumer trust and booking likelihood. Hotels are recommended to actively encourage positive reviews, respond professionally to feedback, and leverage review insights to improve service quality and digital marketing effectiveness.

Abstract

This research delves into the dynamics of intricate Business Intelligence (BI) deployments in Indonesian startups, emphasizing the interplay of organizational performance, analytical maturity, and strategic planning. Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) was utilized in the study, which had 187 individuals from several industries, to examine the linkages and extract significant findings. The results showed three strong positive relationships: organizational performance is positively impacted by strategic planning, analytic maturity has a considerable impact on organizational performance, and strategic planning influences analytic maturity. Large impact sizes and statistical robustness characterize these practically meaningful associations. This study adds to our understanding of BI adoption in the particular setting of startups by highlighting the crucial roles that mature analytics and strategic planning play in fostering organizational success.

Abstract

This article comparatively examines the legal protection of the right to education for women in Indonesia and Australia, focusing on how constitutional ideals are translated into enforceable anti-discrimination measures. While Indonesia’s 1945 Constitution and related statutes formally guarantee the right to education and prohibit discrimination, they largely rely on a general, formal-equality approach that lacks explicit definitions and remedies for gender-based and indirect discrimination. As a result, systemic and institutional barriers faced by girls often remain legally unaddressed. In contrast, Australia’s Sex Discrimination Act 1984 adopts a lex specialis framework that explicitly prohibits both direct and indirect discrimination in education, particularly through Sections 5 and 21, supported by accessible enforcement mechanisms at federal and state levels. This comparative analysis demonstrates a shift from general rights to specific remedies in the Australian system, enabling substantive equality in educational access and experience. The study argues that Indonesia would benefit from targeted anti-discrimination legislation to move beyond formal guarantees toward effective protection and enforcement of gender equality in education.
