Abstract

This study was conducted to find out the benefits of diversifying global investment portfolios in terms of risk and return by utilizing the IHSG, S&P 500, Nikkei, and FTSE 100 stock indices. The methodology applied includes descriptive statistical analysis of returns and risks, as well as a study of the correlation between indices illustrated through correlation mapping. The findings of this study indicate that the Nikkei offers the highest average returns and has the highest risk, while the S&P 500 shows the lowest average returns with the lowest level of risk. The IHSG and FTSE 100 are in the moderate returns and risk category. Correlation analysis shows that the relationship between indices tends to be weak, indicating that integration in the global stock market has not yet been fully realized. These results confirm that portfolio diversification at the international level can provide benefits in reducing investment risk without significantly sacrificing potential returns.

Abstract

Indonesia’s economic growth during the 2020–2024 period experienced significant dynamics due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and global trade uncertainties. International trade, particularly export and import activities, plays a crucial role in influencing economic growth through its contribution to national income. This study aims to analyze the effect of exports and imports on Indonesia’s economic growth during the 2020–2024 period. The theoretical framework is based on economic growth theory and the Heckscher–Ohlin theory of international trade, which emphasizes the importance of net exports in driving Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This research employs a quantitative descriptive approach using secondary data on exports, imports, and economic growth obtained from official publications of Statistics Indonesia (BPS). The analysis examines the trends of export and import performance and their relationship with Indonesia’s economic growth. The results indicate that export and import activities fluctuated throughout the study period due to global economic conditions and trade policy adjustments. Exports contributed to increasing foreign exchange earnings and national output, while imports played a significant role in fulfilling domestic demand for raw materials and capital goods to support production activities. Overall, the study concludes that exports and imports have a strategic role in supporting Indonesia’s economic growth, highlighting the need for balanced and sustainable international trade management.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of liquidity, profitability, and asset structure on capital structure in multinational companies using panel data (30 observations) and a Fixed Effect Model (FEM) based on Chow and Hausman tests. Liquidity is measured by the Current Ratio (CR), profitability by Return On Assets (ROA), asset structure by the proportion of fixed assets, and capital structure by the Debt to Asset Ratio (DAR). The simultaneous test results indicate that CR, ROA, and asset structure jointly have a significant effect on capital structure (F-statistic = 16.33394; p = 0.000). Partially, liquidity has a negative and significant effect on capital structure, meaning higher liquidity leads to lower debt usage. Profitability and asset structure also have negative effects but are not significant. The adjusted R-squared value of 0.8088 shows that 80.88% of capital structure variation can be explained by the model variables. These findings highlight liquidity as the dominant factor in determining capital structure policy in multinational companies.

The results of the study indicate that cash holdings affect profitability, while solvency does not affect profitability. Overall, the dependent variables simultaneously affect the independent variables.

Abstract

The development of international capital flows has driven an increase in corporate involvement in cross-border transactions using foreign currencies, thereby creating exchange rate fluctuation risks. PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, as an airline company operating internationally, has a high level of foreign exchange exposure, particularly in operational costs and liabilities dominated by the US dollar. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of foreign exchange risk management on the profitability of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk during the 2020–2024 period. The study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with secondary data sourced from the Bank Indonesia middle exchange rate and PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk's annual reports. Foreign exchange risk is measured through the ratio of exchange rate gains (losses) to operating profit, while profitability is measured using Return on Assets (ROA). Research results show that the foreign exchange risk faced by companies is significant and impacts financial performance. The effectiveness of foreign exchange risk management shows varying results from year to year. Company profitability, measured using ROA, also experiences fluctuations. Descriptively, there is a correlation between the effectiveness of foreign exchange risk management and company profitability, although profitability is also influenced by factors other than exchange rate risk.

Abstract

Multinational capital budgeting is a long-term investment decision-making process undertaken by multinational corporations, considering various cross-border factors. Unlike domestic capital budgeting, multinational capital budgeting faces additional complexities such as currency exchange rate fluctuations, differences in tax systems, political risk, global economic risk, and regulatory differences in host countries. This study aims to analyze the concept and practice of multinational capital budgeting and examine the risks and managerial implications that arise in its implementation. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review of national and international journals, international finance textbooks, and the company's financial reports and official publications. A case study of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk is used to provide an empirical overview of the challenges of multinational capital budgeting, particularly those related to international funding and exchange rate risk. The study results indicate that cross-border investment decisions that are not balanced with adequate risk analysis can create significant financial pressures and threaten the company's sustainability. Therefore, multinational capital budgeting needs to be conducted comprehensively, considering aspects of profitability, risk, and long-term financial resilience.

Abstract

Exchange rates react to changes in inflation and interest rates. There are at least three theories explaining the relationship between inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates: purchasing power parity, interest rate parity, and the international Fisher effect. This study aims to examine the influence of purchasing power parity, interest rate parity, and the international Fisher effect on the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar. The study population includes time series data on inflation, nominal interest rates, real interest rates, and the rupiah exchange rate. Secondary data used are quarterly reports on inflation, nominal interest rates, real interest rates, and the rupiah exchange rate. The independent variables used are purchasing power parity, interest rate parity, and the international Fisher effect. Meanwhile, the dependent variable used is the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar. The results of this study indicate that purchasing power parity and interest rate parity simultaneously have a significant influence on the rupiah/US dollar exchange rate.

Abstract

The importance of short-term and long-term financing in international financial management as part of a business strategy to address global economic changes. Short-term financing is typically used to meet liquidity and working capital needs, particularly for cross-border activities such as exports and imports, using instruments such as trade credit, international trade paper, Euro-denominated loans, and internal financing. Meanwhile, long-term financing facilitates major investments, business expansion, and strengthens a company's capital structure, with bonds being the primary instrument. This article also discusses various strategic considerations taken into account when selecting international financing sources, such as the cost of funds, exchange rate fluctuations, interest rate parity, and global financial risks, including exchange rate, interest rate, liquidity, and political risks. Case studies of short-term and long-term financing demonstrate that effective risk management, such as hedging strategies, and thorough analysis are necessary for making informed international financing decisions. Therefore, effective international financing management can help maintain financial stability, improve efficiency, and enhance business competitiveness in the global market.
