Abstract

Vannamei shrimp production is a popular activity in the field of inland aquaculture. North Lombok Regency has a land area of 809.53 square kilometers, consisting of special areas (protected forests, wildlife areas, and others) covering 361.86 square kilometers (44.30%), while the remaining land is mainly used for agricultural purposes, covering an area of 447.67 square kilometers (55.30%). The water area of North Lombok is 594.71 square kilometers with a coastline length of 127 kilometers. Considering the vast land area, it is expected to contribute to the production of vannamei shrimp, which has so far relied solely on coastal cultivation. This community service aims to provide understanding and enhance the community's ability to manage vannamei shrimp cultivation, particularly in limited spaces far from the coastal areas, and optimize the existing freshwater sources. The method used in this community service is Focus Group Discussion (FGD), which involves providing information and insights to farmers regarding the development of low salinity shrimp cultivation technology in circular ponds using the biofloc method, accompanied by mentoring and practical application. The dissemination of information on the development of low salinity shrimp cultivation technology in circular ponds using the biofloc system has helped farmers in cultivating shrimp in low salinity water using modern technology, namely the biofloc system. This technology has improved and increased the quality and quantity of production in the cultivation partnership with Muda Mandiri in Tanjung Village, Tanjung Subdistrict, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The dissemination of information on the development of low salinity shrimp cultivation technology in circular ponds using the biofloc system can also assist farmers in improving the quality of the products in the cultivation partnership with Muda Mandiri in Tanjung Village, Tanjung Subdistrict, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

Abstract

Stunting is a health issue that impacts children on a local, national, and international scale. High rates of early marriage are directly associated to the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia. Children in early childhood who marry and become pregnant without the knowledge, mental and financial readiness to become good mothers pose a grave threat to the quality of the future human resources. The problem of stunting is influenced not only by a single element, but also by multiple factors, the most significant of which is the fulfillment of nutrient needs, particularly protein, in this case through fish consumption. This community service project aims to provide counseling or instruction on the significance of fish nutrition in preventing stunting, as well as teach participants how to make cookies from wet anchovies. This method of community service is counseling, which consists of multiple stages, including preparation, distribution of materials, pre- and post-testing, explanation of method to make anchovy cookies, and tasting fish-based processed foods together. From the findings of the pretest given by the speaker to the respondents, 50% of the respondents consumed around 200 g of fish on the day of counseling, and 100% of the respondents were motivated to consume fish following the counseling. In addition to emphasizing the significance of consuming fish on a regular basis for proper nutrition, the presenters demonstrated how to make anchovy cookies as an alternative snack for children. The outcome of this service activity is that the respondents are enthusiastic and inspired by the knowledge offered by the presenters, and are interested in preparing anchovy-based cookies at home.

Abstract

Freshwater fish farming activities in Kokoq Lauk 1 sub village have started to develop in recent years. The availability of water from the Menemeng River which passes through several sub village in the Kelayu Village, including Kokoq Lauq 1, has supported the development of freshwater fish farming activities. However, one of the main problems in aquaculture activities along this river is the decreasing water quality due to uncontrolled disposal of household waste and garbage. The decrease in water quality greatly affects the productivity of aquaculture activities such as the growth rate of fish, the survival rate and the spread of disease in the cultivated fishes. This activity is an initial identification of opportunities and challenges in the development of freshwater fish farming in Kokoq Lauk 1. The results of this initial study will be used as recommendations for further community service activities.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of nutritional status in children under five years of age with low height compare to age. The data from the National Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI) of 2022 shows that one out of every five children in Indonesia is stunted. The Movement to Popularize Eating Fish to Prevent Stunting (GAMSTING) is an effort to reduce stunting prevalence in Indonesia. Children, especially those in the pre-school period such as in day care, early childhood education and kindergarten, are an important target in stunting prevention education. This service activity aims to provide education to teachers, parents and students at Kindergarten DW Rinjani University of Mataram about the importance of nutrition fulfillment from an early age to prevent stunting, one of which is by consuming fish. This service uses the counseling method with material on the introduction of types of sea fish and fresh fish, as well as the importance of eating fish for the health and fulfillment of children's nutrition. The second counseling material is the hands-on practice of cooking tuna. Students and parents who attended the activity were enthusiastic in participating in the activity both in material presentation and in tasting the fish dishes from the cooking demonstration. Collaboration among children, parents and teachers at school in introducing and increasing fish consumption is expected to be an important measure to prevent stunting. Diet is very influential on the growth and development of children so that the toddler period is most appropriate for parents to introduce and get used to their children consuming fish.

Abstract

Aquaculture is one of the world's most rapidly expanding producers of protein-rich diets. This is in accordance with the rising demand for feed to sustain these activities. However, the use of natural materials for fish feed, particularly fish oil, creates a paradox because it is derived from fish, therefore it is against the principles of sustainable agriculture. This article examines vegetable oils with a superior nutritional profile, palatability, digestibility, anti-nutritional factors, availability, and cost in comparison to fish oil. The ten-year-old articles selected and compiled originate from national (SHINTA) and international (Elsevier and Proquest) websites. Finding alternatives to fish oil as a source of lipids in fish diets is the result of several decades of research. Vegetable and animal sources are two main types of fish oil substitutes. Up to one hundred percent of fish oil can be substituted with vegetable oils like palm oil, canola oil, soybean oil, and olive oil. Similarly, animal sources can provide up to 75% of the lipids necessary for fish diets. Moreover, rubber seed oil has the potential to supplant fish oil in Indonesia due to its high omega-3 fatty acid content, which is comparable to that of fish oil. The conclusion of this review is that there are multiple sources of lipids that can be used to replace fish oil, and that more consideration must be given to the type of lipid source used in accordance with the type of fish being cultivated and the location of the fish cultivation.

Abstract

The use of pineapple fruit extract as an immunostimulant in aquaculture has become the focus of significant research in efforts to improve the immune systems of aquatic organisms, especially farmed fish. Pineapple fruit extract, which contains bromelain, has attracted attention as a potential natural solution to improve the immune response of fish against pathogens and disease. The main aim of this review is to evaluate the extent to which the use of pineapple as an immunostimulant is effective in improving the immune system of fish or other aquatic organisms in an aquaculture context. This article uses literature study methods from several national, accredited national journals and reputable international journals. Literature study is the process of searching, collecting and analyzing various sources of information relevant to a particular topic. Pineapple extract contains bromelain, which has immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. It can improve the fish's immune response and reduce inflammation, helping to improve fish health. The use of pineapple fruit extract can reduce dependence on antibiotics in the treatment of sick fish, which is in line with global efforts to overcome antibiotic resistance and environmental impacts. With the right efforts, the use of pineapple fruit extract as an immunostimulant in aquaculture has the potential to increase the productivity and sustainability of the aquaculture industry, as well as reduce dependence on antibiotics and synthetic chemicals. Therefore, further research and development of best practices in the use of pineapple fruit extract in aquaculture are necessary steps to realize its potential as a more environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative.

Abstract

Cromileptes altivelis humpback grouper is a commodity with high economic value. Humpback grouper is Indonesia's main export commodity. The high value of sales and production of humpback grouper is constrained by the many disease attacks in the humpback grouper aquaculture industry. An alternative solution that has been continuously researched for several years to tackle humpback grouper disease is the use of immunostimulants. The use of immunostimulants orally can increase non-specific immunity of humpback grouper to ward off disease attacks and is environmentally friendly. Immunostimulants such as Lactococcus lactis HNL12, Lactococcus lactis HNL12 combined with Schizochytrium limacinum (algae flour), Peptidoglycan, Phycocyanin (Spirulina platensis), Bacterium, Vitamin C, Chromium Yeast, Commercial Yeast can enhance the non-specific immune system in humpback grouper (Cromileptes altivelis). These immunostimulants increase non-specific immunity such as Respiratory burst Activity (RB), superoxide dismutase (SOD), alkaline phosphatase (AKP), lysozyme (LZM), Phagocytosis Activity, Phagocytosis Index, Total leukocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit, phagocytic activity, lysozyme activity, serum protein, albumin and globulin, total erythrocytes, haemoglobin, hematocrit. These immunostimulants can also prevent attacks of Vibriosis disease caused by the bacteria Vibrio harveyi, Vibrio algynoliticus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus as well as Viral Necrosis Virus (VNN) disease by increasing the survival rate compared to fish that are not given immunostimulants. Keywords: cromileptes altivelis, immunostimulant, non-specific immunity, fish disease
