Abstract

The current Generation Z often exhibits advanced technological skills but struggles with social-emotional aspects like individualism, low motivation, and lack of empathy. This study investigated how problem-based learning (PBL) via outbound activities could foster emotional intelligence in elementary students. A pretest-posttest control group experimental design was employed, involving 30 fourth-grade students from SD Negeri Tempurejo 01, Lumajang Regency. Fifteen students in Class A served as the experimental group, receiving PBL through outbound, while Class B, also with fifteen students, was the control group, taught by conventional lecture and discussion. Emotional intelligence was measured using pre- and post-tests across indicators: Self-Awareness, Self-Regulation, Motivation, Empathy, and Social Skills. One-Way ANOVA analyzed the data. Results showed a significant increase (p < 0.05) in emotional intelligence and its indicators in both groups. Crucially, the experimental group's average post-test score was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than the control groups. Motivation saw the highest increase, while Self-Regulation showed the lowest. This suggests that PBL through outbound significantly enhances elementary students' emotional intelligence development. Further strategy refinement is recommended to optimize growth across all indicators, particularly Self-Regulation

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of the Augmented Reality (AR)-based Quantum Teaching model on high school students’ critical thinking and metacognitive skills in biology. The need for innovative learning models is urgent to enhance students’ higher-order thinking abilities, which are crucial for meeting the demands of 21st-century learning. This research employed a quasi-experimental pre-test post-test control group design involving grade XI biology students at Pakusari State High School during the 2023/2024 academic year. Random sampling assigned class XI 5 as the experimental group and XI 4 as the control group. Data collection methods included observations, interviews, essay tests, and documentation. Data analysis using ANCOVA via SPSS version 26 revealed significant improvements in both critical thinking and metacognitive skills in the experimental group compared to the control group. These findings demonstrate that the AR-based Quantum Teaching model effectively enhances students’ cognitive and selfregulatory skills in biology learning. The study concludes that integrating AR technology within innovative teaching models can foster critical competencies essential for students’ academic success and lifelong learning. The implications of this research suggest that schools and educators should consider adopting AR-supported pedagogies to enrich the learning experience and promote deeper understanding. Educational stakeholders are encouraged to invest in teacher training and digital infrastructure to support the successful implementation of such models. Furthermore, this study provides a foundation for developing curriculum innovations that combine interactive technology and student-centered approaches, aiming to prepare learners with the critical and metacognitive skills necessary for future academic and professional challenges.

Abstract

This research investigates the development of Computational Thinking (CT) studies in science education by examining selected science journals. It focuses on 1) the distribution of CT research, 2) the proportion of CT-related articles, 3) research methods, 4) authors and citations, 5) education levels, and 6) scientific disciplines and topics. Despite limited systematic literature reviews on CT, its importance in science education is evident as it fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This bibliometric review uses Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) to analyze 13 articles from five reputable international journals: Journal of Science Education (IJSE), International Journal of Science and Mathematics Education (IJMA), Journal of Research in Science Teaching (JRST), Science Education (SE), and Research in Science Education (RISE). Findings show that CT research began to develop in 2019. The mixed method is the most widely used in CT research (40%), with JRST publishing the most CT articles (70%). Citations for CT articles are not yet significant, with the highest being 119. Research at the elementary level needs more attention, as many studies focus on secondary schools. CT STEM is the most focused topic in these journals. Other findings are discussed in detail.

Abstract

The study aims to increase the relative contribution of science learning to the achievement of national education goals. Internalizing the value of monotheism in scientific material will not reduce the level of scientific scholarship itself. This research is a qualitative study that is a literature study (library research) that uses books and other literature as the main object. In fact, these studies can improve the quality of science material. Science as a means to develop cognitive potential, science can also grow the potential of conscience (affective). This scientific material will be able to instill confidence in everything that exists in nature. Everything that is essentially created by God, Almighty God. This belief can drive against beliefs about submission, characteristics, and order of things that Allah created (sunnatullah), so that humans can learn them. All this will enable the growth of a positive attitude, the awe of the greatness, power, and love of God, a motivation to give thanks, increase faith and devotion to Allah Almighty. Internalization of the value of monotheism in science material can be done through the disclosure of values/wisdom/meaning/nature of the scientific material based on Islamic values

Abstract

This study aims to develop Google Sites-based digital learning media integrated with EduCanva to improve students' collaboration skills in agro industrial schools. The research method uses a research and development design with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through validation sheets, questionnaires, tests, interviews, and observations, then analyzed based on validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Expert validation results showed a percentage of 97.22% from subject matter experts, 84.375% from media experts, and 84.375% from learning experts in the highly valid category. The practicality test obtained a 100% response from teachers and a 92.29% response from students, both of which were categorized as very practical. The effectiveness test showed an increase in learning outcomes with an N-gain value of 0.53 (moderate category) and an increase in student collaboration skills of 11.38% from cycle I to cycle II, which was categorized as fair to good. These findings prove that Google Sites-based learning media integrated with EduCanva is feasible, practical, and effective for use in learning. Abstract

This study explores the characteristics of Written Communication Skills (WCS) of pre-service science teachers from a gender perspective. WCS is a skill related to the ability to convey ideas in writing so that they can express their ideas, information, and arguments. WCS is important for pre-service science teachers to succeed in their studies and the workplace, especially when they teach in the classroom. This research is based on the differences in communication characteristics of female and male pre-service science teachers that have the potential to influence the way they write on the blackboard media. However, until now, references related to the characteristics of WCS, especially pre-service science teachers and their gender roles, have not been explored. To explore in depth the WCS of both gender groups with more flexibility, explorative is the method used in this study. This study involved 101 pre-service science teachers from three universities with similar regional characteristics. The data collection methods used included written tests. Exploratory results illustrate that pre-service science teachers covering the components of organization, development, expression, and content are at moderate and very good WCS levels. Mann-Whitney analysis showed that gender had no significant effect on WCS. However, the mean review illustrates that in the organization and development components, the mean of female is higher than male. In contrast, male have a higher mean than female in the expression and content components. Thus, there is no need for special treatment by considering gender differences when honing WCS. To increase the level of WCS of pre-service science teachers, educators in universities are seen as only needing to provide opportunities for pre-service science teachers to carry out problem formulation and self-group reflection.        Keywords: pre-service science teachers, written communication skills, and gender roles. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i3.pp1397-1409

Abstract

This study addresses empirical learning problems found in senior high schools located in coffee plantation areas, where students tend to show low mastery of biology concepts and limited metacognitive awareness due to conventional, teacher-centered instruction. The study aims to examine the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) integrated with concept mapping on students’ biology concept mastery and metacognitive awareness. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest nonequivalent control group design was employed. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri Jenggawah, Jember Regency, involving 69 tenth-grade students, consisting of 35 students in the experimental class and 34 students in the control class. Data were collected using a biology concept mastery test and a metacognitive awareness inventory adapted from Schraw and Dennison. The data were analyzed using ANCOVA after fulfilling normality and homogeneity assumptions. The results indicated that PBL integrated with concept mapping had a significant effect on students’ biology concept mastery, but did not significantly affect their metacognitive awareness. These findings suggest that PBL with concept mapping is effective in improving conceptual understanding, although longer and more intensive implementation is required to optimally enhance metacognitive awareness. This study recommends the integration of contextual environmental problems and structured reflective activities to support metacognitive development.
