Abstract

This study aims to: (1) describe the physics learning difficulties of students of class VIII in the Junior High School 1 Pomalaa.; and (2) describing any factors that cause learning difficulties Physics learners in class VIII Junior High School 1 Pomala. Subjects in this study were all learners VIIIA class and VIIID Junior High School 1 Pomalaa the second semester with the topic learning in motion and force. The research instrument consisted of multi-representation ability tests and interviews and then analyzed descriptively using a quantitative approach. Data analysis results obtained:  The ability of multi-representation of students in the topic of motion and force is still relatively low with an achievement percentage of 71.86%. Learners are in a low category had a pattern of learning difficulties in understanding about the language, understand the basic concepts, analyze the image, determine the y-axis and the axis s, define symbols, set the equation and the difficulty in calculating. Learners medium category with a percentage of 27.35% achievement patterns of learning difficulties in understanding the basic concepts, force projection, determine the y-axis and s, erroneously define symbols, and erred in the calculation. Learners higher category has a pattern of learning difficulties in analyzing the image and determines the y-axis and the axis s on the graphical representation.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is essential in our modern society today due to many problems related to science and technology. This study aims to determine the effect of the scientific literacy approach using the discovery learning model on students' understanding of physics concepts. The method of this research is a true experimental research using post-tests only control group design. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Watubangga. The sample of this study consisted of two classes, namely the experimental class, which was taught with scientific literacy approach using the discovery learning model, and the control class which was taught by using the direct learning model. Sampling was carried out using a random sampling technique so that class X1 was chosen as the experimental class and X2 as the control class. The data analysis technique used was descriptive and inferential analysis. The results showed that students' understanding of physics concepts in the experimental class is in a good category while in the control class is in the medium category. The inferential test shows t-count > t-table (6.85 > 1.98). This means that there is a significant difference in understanding of physics concept between the experimental and control group. This study concludes that the use of a scientific literacy approach with a discovery learning model has an effect on students' understanding of physics concepts.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of participatory learning combined with a critical problem-solving approach on junior high school students' science process skills in the context of simple machines. Conducted with 61 students from Central Lombok, the research involved an experimental group (31 students) and a control group (30 students). The experimental group received participatory learning treatment with a critical problem-solving approach, while the control group was taught using traditional expository methods. The intervention included three sessions focusing on pulleys, inclined planes, and levers, each lasting 90 minutes. Students' science process skills were assessed across five aspects: preparing practical tools, assembling practical tools, reading measurements, collaborating with peers, and conveying information. The results revealed that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group in all aspects of science process skills, with higher mean scores and lower variability. The findings indicate that participatory learning with a critical problem-solving approach is more effective than traditional methods in enhancing students' science process skills. This study's outcomes suggest that integrating interactive and student-centered approaches in science education can foster critical thinking, collaboration, and practical application of scientific concepts. The research contributes to the existing literature by demonstrating the benefits of combining participatory learning and critical problem-solving in teaching complex topics like simple machines. Future research should explore the long-term effects of these approaches and their applicability across various educational contexts and subjects.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the problem-solving skills of Vocational High School in Kendari students in direct current electricity. The research used the descriptive-quantitative method, and the research sample was twelve science-grade students in Vocational High School in Kendari. The research instruments already used as several questions and problem-solving skills had 0,88 validity. Data collections were tests and interviews. The result has obtained problem-solving skills with low criteria. Research results show the indicator of useful description in higher criteria, a physics approach and a specific application of physics in low criteria. Otherwise, mathematical procedures and logical progression were included in very low criteria. Students have good abilities in useful descriptive indicators. Another indicator is that students are experiencing difficulties. Students need help untangling electrical circuits in series or parallel and applying Kirchhoff's I and II laws. The problem of applying mathematical procedures was algebra and fractions in electrical circuits. This research can be used to improve students' problem-solving skill on direct current electrical material for Vocational high school physics subjects.

Abstract

Integrating Positive Discipline and Digital Learning to Improve the Effectiveness of the Indonesian Education Curriculum. Objectives: This study analysis the effectiveness of implementing a positive discipline approach and digital learning interactions in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum at SMA Negeri 1 Kendari.  Methods: Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research was conducted in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year involving 74 educators. Data collection was done through observation, questionnaires, and documentation, with analysis using the Miles and Huberman model. Findings: The results showed that 70% of teachers successfully implemented positive reinforcement effectively, while in digital learning, 85% of teachers successfully implemented the think-pair-share method. The integration of these two approaches creates a more comprehensive learning environment and supports the development of 21st century competencies. The Merdeka Mengajar platform plays an important role as a supporting infrastructure that facilitates the implementation of both approaches. However, the study also identified challenges such as consistency of implementation and the need to develop teachers' digital competencies.  Conclusion: The findings present important insights for the development of educational practices in the digital era and the effective implementation of Merdeka Curriculum. Keywords: Positive discipline, digital learning, Merdeka CurriculumDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i3.2024143

Abstract

Physics learning in secondary schools has not been optimal in fostering critical thinking skills because the concepts are abstract and conventional methods are still dominant. The integration of the CinQASE (Collaborative in Questioning, Analyzing, Synthesizing, Evaluation) model with the Moodle learning management system (LMS) has the potential to provide interactive learning that strengthens digital learning engagement (DLE) and students' critical thinking skills (CTS). Therefore, this study aims to develop a Moodle SMS based on the CinQASE model for work and energy material to improve DLE and critical thinking skills. The research used the 4D development model, which includes the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages, with instruments in the form of validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, critical thinking tests, and DLE activity analysis covering the indicators of questioning, analyzing, synthesizing, evaluating, and discipline. The results showed an expert validation score of 3.72 (highly valid), teacher response of 87% (very practical), and student response of 85% (very practical). The effectiveness test showed an increase in DLE from moderate to high and very high, as well as critical thinking skills with an N-Gain of 0.58 (moderate-high category). Thus, the Moodle LMS based on the CinQASE model for work and energy material is declared valid, practical, and effective as a learning medium to support 21st-century skills
