Abstract

Movement in a dance is a visual symbol full of meaning conveyed to be accepted by dance lovers from the whole dance performed. The selection of dance movements is related to the mathematical concept of illustrating its meaning (ethnomathematics). In addition, there is a mathematical literacy process of geometry concepts revealed in dance movements. This becomes a meaningful symbol that becomes a wealth of dance movements that are increasingly interesting to present. The purpose of this research is to identify the ethnomathematics of lahbako dance in the perspective of mathematical literacy of geometry concepts. qualitative research with a descriptive approach to explain the data and its discussion. Data collection methods of interviews, observation, and documentation with data validity test source triangulation. Subjects 2 people from Arutala dance studio and Hastarini. The results obtained are dance movements that come from different habits and interpretations of dancers but the actual meaning of the movements is the same. Ethnomathematics in lahbako dance successfully illustrates the meaning of the movements conveyed in lahbako dance through hand, finger, foot, and body movements that modify into lines, acute and obtuse angles, and triangular and rectangular fields. The mathematical literacy perspective of the geometric concepts of lines, angles, and fields is visualized conceptually, the application of real contexts of daily life, geometric thinking, and the delivery of mathematical language helps in illustrating the message conveyed in a lahbako dance, namely the activities of tobacco farmers. Further research recommendations for dance movements that jump or repeatedly back and forth and the count used by dancers in each movement.

Abstract

Media is an effective tool used by teachers to support learning to convey the content of teaching materials. This study aims to determine the application of “division calculation machine” media for deaf students in division operation material. This research uses a descriptive approach with qualitative research. The data sources used are test questions, observation, interviews, and documentation. This research was conducted at SLB ABC Balung with the research subjects as many as 3 high school deaf students. The results of this study by applying the division calculation machine media used to solve division problems can help deaf students to understand the division operation material. Counting using the media “Division Counting Machine” can make it easier for students to count and make counting faster than counting manually although there is 1 student who says it is faster to use the manual than using the media but the student prefers to use the media because there is no need to count and only move the ice cream sticks. Based on this research, the media can make it easier for students to learn division and the media as a facilitator in the learning process in class.

Abstract

Abstract

This study evaluates the implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in mathematics instruction witha focus on students with visual impairments, a context that has not been sufficiently explored in higher education. Although UDL has been widely recognized as an inclusive approach, previous studies have primarily concentrated on general or primary–secondary education, leaving a gap in empirical evidence regarding its application in higher education mathematics. This research introduces the UP-Think (Understanding Participation and Thinking) framework as a novel contribution that integrates two essential dimensions: active student participation and higher-order thinking ability. Participation (asking, responding, collaborating); Thinking (conceptual, critical, creative) measured by easured by observation rubrics, a student-engagement questionnaire, pre–post concept-understanding tests, and a critical/creative thinking rubric with established reliability. Using a mixed-method descriptive evaluative design, data were collected from observations, questionnaires, pre–post tests, and interviews involving students of the Special Education Study Program. The results indicate a substantial increase in participation, with 79% (22/28) of visually impaired students more actively asking questions, 85% (26/28) responding and justifying answers, and 85% (26/28) engaging in group collaboration. In terms of thinking ability, 68% (19/28)achieved notable gains in conceptual understanding, 86% demonstrated consistent critical reasoning, and 78% displayed creative problem-solving strategies. These findings imply that accessible assessment design and lecturer training are essential for sustaining the benefits of UDL. Institutions should invest in systematic professional development and adaptive technology provision so that inclusive mathematics instruction can be implemented consistently and equitably across courses.
