Abstract

This research aims to explore mathematical literacy through the structure and design of the Death Train Monument in Bondowoso as a medium for learning geometric concepts. With an exploratory approach and descriptive method, data were collected through observation and documentation to identify geometric elements such as trapezoids, rectangles, circles, cuboids, and geometric transformations. The research results show that the monument not only has historical value but also contains various geometric shapes that can be utilized as contextual learning resources in mathematics education based on local culture. This research recommends the integration of ethnomathematics in education as an effort to enhance mathematical literacy and appreciation for cultural heritage.

Abstract

Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often have difficulty understanding abstract concepts such as numbers, requiring interactive and concrete learning media. This study analyzed the systematic thinking, or algorithmic processes, of children with autism spectrum disorder as they solved complex Sudoku puzzles. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, three students with different levels of functioning at extraordinary school C TPA Jember were observed. This study used a 4x4 dot Sudoku game with pictures as a more easily understood learning medium. Data analysis was conducted by comparing data from the work results, visual documentation, and field notes. Data analysis used an interactive qualitative approach based on Miles and Huberman. The results indicated that picture Sudoku can support the algorithmic thinking of children with ASD, although the level of success varies based on individual abilities. Students with lower functional levels require full guidance, but students with higher functional levels lack sufficient independence and problem-solving skills. The conclusion of this study is that picture Sudoku has proven to be an effective tool for improving the algorithmic thinking of children with autism, highlighting the importance of concrete and adaptive learning media.

Abstract

An introduction to the practice of the five daily prayers in islam has become an integral part of the lives of muslims worldwide. The adhan, the call to prayer, is recited five times daily, marking the designated, times for worship. However, beyond its spiritual aspect, the adhan schedule also reflects a fascinating mathematical system, influencing and reflecting the relationship between time, geometry, and the daily lives of muslims. An ethnomathematical exploration of the adhan schedule for the five daily prayers from an ethnomathematics in the learning process can enrich teaching materials by connecting these aspects to students’ cultures. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with an ethnographic approach, where data is collected through observation, interviews, and documentation

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Movement in a dance is a visual symbol full of meaning conveyed to be accepted by dance lovers from the whole dance performed. The selection of dance movements is related to the mathematical concept of illustrating its meaning (ethnomathematics). In addition, there is a mathematical literacy process of geometry concepts revealed in dance movements. This becomes a meaningful symbol that becomes a wealth of dance movements that are increasingly interesting to present. The purpose of this research is to identify the ethnomathematics of lahbako dance in the perspective of mathematical literacy of geometry concepts. qualitative research with a descriptive approach to explain the data and its discussion. Data collection methods of interviews, observation, and documentation with data validity test source triangulation. Subjects 2 people from Arutala dance studio and Hastarini. The results obtained are dance movements that come from different habits and interpretations of dancers but the actual meaning of the movements is the same. Ethnomathematics in lahbako dance successfully illustrates the meaning of the movements conveyed in lahbako dance through hand, finger, foot, and body movements that modify into lines, acute and obtuse angles, and triangular and rectangular fields. The mathematical literacy perspective of the geometric concepts of lines, angles, and fields is visualized conceptually, the application of real contexts of daily life, geometric thinking, and the delivery of mathematical language helps in illustrating the message conveyed in a lahbako dance, namely the activities of tobacco farmers. Further research recommendations for dance movements that jump or repeatedly back and forth and the count used by dancers in each movement.
