Abstract

Central Java is one of the regions in Indonesia with a lot of water resources that must be appropriately managed. In addition, metal content in water bodies in Central Java must now be assessed to prevent health impacts that may be measurable. One of the methods to analyze the management of water bodies is the water quality index method. This study aimed to examine the water quality index due to metal contamination in water bodies in Central Java. Metal measurements were carried out using the AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry) method. The value of the water quality index using the water quality index method for waters in Central Java in 2015-2018 was categorized to mild to moderately polluted, and only 2 locations were measured as heavily polluted. Two areas that are included in the heavily polluted category were the waters of Bulakan and Bojonegoro in 2016. To determine the cause of why the water quality index value being classified as moderately polluted and lightly polluted, we must look at the metal parameters that contribute the most to the index value. These parameters can be initial information on the pollutant source that causes pollution.

Abstract

Excessive water consumption to meet water needs has changed aquatic water quality and quantity. Focus on domestic wastewater treatment via built wetlands. Disinfection protects humans against disease-causing viruses, bacteria, and protozoan parasites in wastewater. This study planned the disinfection of artificial wetland wastewater to fulfill microbiological criteria. From the examined data, each unit's design criteria and disinfection effectiveness for the created wetland outlet in the WWTP unit will be discussed. The created wetland must process 8696 cfu/100mL of fecal coliform. Despite good processing efficiency, 94% of fecal coliforms do not fulfill quality criteria. WWTP's wetland emits 8.011 mg/L of Ammonia. 90% chlorine costs Rp. 35,000/kg on the market. Total disinfection costs are rough Rp. 1,018,210.73. Water quality, lamp output power, and exposure distance affect lamp intensity. The lamp's electric power controls the beam's intensity; the more power, the more emission. The emitted power isn't equal to the lamp's electric power. According to the state electricity provider, families with a 900VA power limit will pay Rp. 1,352/kWh in July-September 2021. Nine 30-W bulbs irradiate bacteria. The lights will run for 24 hours non-stop. Hence the monthly electricity usage is 194.4 kWh or Rp 262.829.00.

Abstract

Paper and garden waste are among the various types of rubbish commonly encountered in urban areas in Indonesia, including the city of Depok. Notably, not all paper waste can be recycled by garbage collectors into new products. In addition, garden waste is also garbage, one of the wastes produced daily from gardening activities. This study analyzed the potential for reducing paper and garden waste using as Refuse-Derived Fuel or RDF in Depok City. This study analyzes the quality of RDF based on the parameters of water content, ash content, density, and calorific value resulting from the material substitution. The results were analyzed using the multicollinearity and Kepner-Tregoe Decision Analysis (KTDA). The results of the multicollinearity test showed that the ash and water content could reduce the calorific value of RDF mixed with paper and garden waste. The addition of garden waste composition can increase the calorific value. Based on the results of decision analysis using KTDA, it shows that the variation of the mixture of 75% paper waste and 25% wood waste has the most prominent points compared to other variations. Material Flow Analysis (MFA) utilization of this waste can reduce the generation of paper and garden waste by 3.5% and 12.3%, respectively.

Abstract

Environmental permits from hospital activities must meet good solid and liquid waste management. Hospital waste management is closely related to patients' infectious status, so it is dangerous and toxic. One that can be used as a reference is a study of the construction of Hospital X in the Cengkareng area, West Jakarta. The purpose of this study was to evaluate waste management for environmental permits from the activities of Hospital X. This study was conducted using field observation techniques. Wastewater that is treated from an activity produced in health care facilities consists of domestic wastewater, clinical wastewater, laboratory wastewater, etc. The WWTP planning design that several health care facilities have widely used has an aerobic biofilter system that requires oxygen assistance. Therefore, in optimizing the operation and maintenance functions of the wastewater treatment system, it is necessary to have an exceptional understanding from the WWTP operator as the basis for the WWTP treatment planning process. Solid waste from hospital activities is estimated to cause health problems for living things and the risk of environmental pollution. B3 waste can come from medical waste, used batteries and lamps, expired medicines, used ink storage containers, leftover cleaning packages, and others.

Abstract

Due to human activities, both domestic and non-domestic, river pollution can occur over time. One of the rivers in Surabaya, which is located in a densely populated area, is Bokor River. Residents use Bokor River for pond activities, so the water's quality must meet these quality standards. This study aims to analyze the suitability of river water quality in Bokor River, Surabaya City, which has met its quality standards for this activity. Water quality measurement is carried out by existing testing with the standard method that is used as a reference in Indonesia. Water quality measurements were determined based on the parameters BOD, COD, DO, TSS, Phosphate (PO4 3-), Nitrate (NO3), and Ammonium (NH4). The measured DO, BOD, phosphate, and ammonia parameters did not meet these quality standards. However, DO parameters in the upstream still meet the quality standard (above 3 mg/L), while after that, they experience a decrease in quality. Meanwhile, nutrient parameters, especially ammonia, do not meet quality standards, as it is known that ammonia can provide toxic properties to fish. In addition, there is an opportunity for eutrophication of this quality. Pollutants entering the Bokor River are point sources and non-point sources, which cannot be located precisely and generally consist of many relatively small individual sources.

Abstract

There is evidence that marine plastic pollution affects marine life and ecological services. The potential hazard to human health from chemical additions in plastics is also present. Although desirable, the recycling of plastics is now limited by the complexity of the materials and chemicals, the limitations of available technologies, and market demands. This study was conducted to discover the challenges and future of marine debris policy. This study takes two locations, Indonesia and Taiwan, which have issued marine debris policies simultaneously. At the same time, the Indonesian and Taiwanese governments 2018 issued a policy to reduce marine debris. Following Presidential Decree Number 83/2018 concerning Handling Marine Debris, the Government of Indonesia published a National Action Plan for Handling Marine Debris for 2018–2025. Following this law, the Indonesian government agreed to handle 70% of the solid trash generated within eight years between 2018 and 2025, eliminate marine debris by 70%, and reduce solid waste by 30%. In Taiwan, the "Action Plan of Marine Debris Governance, " issued in 2018 by this alliance and the EPA, contains a schedule for the phase-out of four single-use plastic items (plastic bags, straws, utensils, and takeaway cups). Source reduction, prevention and removal, monitoring and surveying (including research), and outreach and public involvement are the four objectives of this action plan. Although implementing the policy is different, the objectives carried out in Indonesia and Taiwan are the same: reducing waste from sources and increasing community participation in action plan programs.

Abstract

Drainage is one way of removing unwanted excess water in an area and dealing with the effects of excess water in the system. When the rainy season comes, there are almost floods or puddles on urban roads. The large population also makes the volume of drainage channels fill up quickly, while the drainage capacity tends to decrease due to rainwater (erosion) and sedimentation. Meteorological Street, Laut Dendang Village, Percut Sei Tuan sub-district, Deli Serdang Regency, is one of the villages that is frequently flooded every time it rains. On these issues, the researcher highlights the importance of evaluating the Deli Serdang Regency's drainage system along Meteorological Road to anticipate when the rainy season comes. The general exponential method can determine whether the existing drainage volume can still accommodate terrestrial run-off and domestic wastewater in the next 30 years and calculate the population growth. Based on the research results from rainfall data obtained from Meteorology Road, the rainfall intensity value for the last ten years (2010 - 2019) was 10.538 mm/day. Thus, the amount of discharge flowing in the drainage channel (Qplansning) is equal to 0.832 m3/sec, while the planned Q for the next ten years is 0.874 m3/sec, for the next 20 years is 0.953 m3/sec, and 30 years into the future. front is 1.111 m3/sec. Based on the calculation results, Qplans exceeds Qeksisting. Therefore, a new channel plan is needed.
