Abstract

This article discusses the teaching of the seven stages (martabat tujuh) in the 18th century, which had previously developed and became controversial in the Nusantara region since the 17th century. The seven stages are a central topic in philosophical Sufi teachings. The article's primary focus is the response of Muḥammad Zain ibn Faqīh Jalāluddīn al-Āsyī (d. 1783 CE), as articulated in his translation and commentary on the book Umm al-Barāhīn. Although the book he translated and commented on pertains to creed (aqīdah), he interjected his views regarding the seven stages. Using the socio-intellectual and historical approach, this study illustrates how Muḥammad Zain established the Sunni-Ash'ārī creed. The doctrine of the seven stages is complex, and finding competent scholars to explain it is challenging. However, Muḥammad Zain cautiously evaluates the proponents of the doctrine of the unity of existence, which forms the basis of the seven stages, such as Ibn Arabī and ‘Abd Karīm al-Jīlī. He even sharply criticizes those who mislead figures like Ibrāhim al-Kurānī, Aḥmad al-Qushāshī, and ‘Abdurraūf al-Fansūrī. Muḥammad Zain's views also reflect the dominance of the Sunni-Ash'ari creed, indirectly impacting the decline of philosophical Sufi trends in Aceh, particularly and in the Malay territory generally.

Abstract

This study examines tarekat and its development in the Islamic education curriculum at Jagat Arsy Islamic Boarding School and how it affects modern society from the development of the educational model applied to it. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach, using data from observation, interviews, and documentation. The study results show that integrating tarekat into the curriculum of Islamic religious education has significant benefits, especially in developing spirituality and morality. Tarekat helps to increase self-discipline, closeness to God, and the formation of a better-centered character. However, challenges during its implementation, including resistance from conservative factions and the struggle to develop a standardized curriculum, hindered the process. The tarekat-based education model is perceived to have shifted public opinion regarding tarekat's adaptability to modern life, leading to increased support and adoption of tarekat practices. These findings reaffirm the significance of integrating tarekat into the education system and offer fresh insights for developing a comprehensive and systematic Islamic educational model.

Abstract

This article aims to reveal the rareness of historical writing that elevated the female figure as the main character. This gives rise to the assumptions that women are not much involved in history. The method used in this article is the historical research method. This Article finds that there are several possible factors that have made the writing of women's development history neglected and relatively slow compared to other social histories. First, the erroneous paradigm of women's history. Many opinions assume that everything related to women's problems is domestic issues and private. While anything related to science is identical to the world of men. Second, the wrong perspective about women's world is very influential on other factors. Among them are methodological and source issues; women are considered to be dealing with private issues only, while most of the documents/data deal with public issues, which are dominated by men's world. Therefore, it is possible that women are often overlooked and neglected from the record

Abstract

This article aims to explain that brain-friendly, child-friendly and environment-friendly digital technology through interaction between teachers and students with comprehensive guidance can improve learning outcomes. With brain-friendly, child-friendly and environmentally-friendly technologies more channels of interaction between teachers and students are created so as to improve teaching and shape students' thinking patterns. In classroom learning teachers use WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram, power points, google classroom, quizzes, Edmundo, google meet and zoom meeting. The learning approach used is the scientific approach (observing, questioning, gathering information, associating and communicating), so that learning becomes more interesting and students become more active. However, although digital technology can improve learning outcomes, it has not been able to achieve the main objectives of Islamic religious education, namely religiosity, faith, piety and noble character. In addition, brain-friendly, child-friendly and environmentally friendly technology has advantages but also has several weaknesses. The advantages of using brain-friendly, child-friendly and environmentally friendly technology are (1) making it easier for teachers and students to access knowledge; (2) there is no need to buy and stack books but teachers can access e-books (electronic books) from the internet which can be opened via a hand phone or laptop; (3) finding teaching materials and other needs becomes very easy; (4) communicating with others is so easy and fast; (5) making it easier for teachers to provide subject matter to students. Meanwhile, the disadvantages of using brain-friendly, child-friendly and environmentally friendly technology are as follows: (1) some students' thoughts have a tendency towards radical thinking; (2) the rise of plagiarism among students; (3) many students become lazy and tend to behave unruly and resist; (4) lazy to carry out worship, especially the five daily prayers; (5) making the main task as a side and spending time using the internet to find other information outside the tasks given by the teacher; (6) the emergence of arrogant behavior, namely the emergence of feelings from students feeling smarter than their teachers because students have more time to access various kinds of information that enter through the internet.

Abstract

PurposeThis research aimed to reveal various discourses and narratives of womanhood that were popularly discussed in the era before Indonesian independence. In addition, it also tried to reveal the movement of women against oppression using writings published in various Muslim mass media. MethodIn this case, this research used a sociological approach and uses qualitative content analysis theory. The study made various mass media of Muslim women in 1912-1942 as the primary data sources. They were original archives that had been converted into microfilm. The data were analyzed using a sociological approach and critical discourse analysis. Findings/ResultThis research reveals that the oppression experienced by Muslim women both in the public and domestic spheres is the most frequently raised topic. This is because the limited access to education for women, the deep-rooted patriarchal culture, and the limited role of women in the public sphere were still closely attached to Indonesian society. ConclusionThe Muslim mass media becomes an effective tool in voicing women's voices, ranging from the polemic of polygamy practices, the importance of education for women, the position of women, to the narrative of women's involvement in combat.

Abstract

Currently, preschool education has evolved, even it has been revolutionized. This fact is shown by the large content of academic teaching materials such as reading, writing, and arithmetic which is still controversial must be taught in preschool education, which seems to be a compulsory subject for preschool children. Although government regulations have regulated properly and ideally how preschool education should be implemented, ironically due to competition between preschool institutions and the demands of parents, many preschool institutions fulfill their curricula with academic content. This study aims to obtain an overview of the academic-oriented preschool learning process in planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Abstract

Abstract Human perfection is intrinsically linked to virtues (al-fadhā’il), namely wisdom (al-hikmah), courage (al-syaja‘ah), temperance (al-‘iffah), and justice (al-‘adalah). Through these virtues, individuals attain true happiness, which al-Ghazali in Ma‘arij al-Quds describes as beholding God in the hereafter or attaining divine knowledge (ma‘rifat al-Bāri). This study has three main objectives: first, to explain the concept of the Perfect Human (al-insan al-kamil); second, to analyze al-Ghazali’s perspective on this concept within Islamic education; and third, to examine its implementation at STIT Insan Kamil, Bogor City. The research employs qualitative methods in a descriptive, analytical, implementative, and evaluative approach, drawing on interviews with students, lecturers, and staff, supported by institutional data. For al-Ghazali, the Perfect Human is one who balances morality, intellect, and righteous deeds, achieving harmony in relationships with God, fellow human beings, and the universe. Education should therefore go beyond worldly ambitions and guide individuals toward closeness to God. At STIT Insan Kamil, this concept is applied, although Qur’an memorization targets remain less optimal and require continuous improvement. How to Cite: Iskandar S., Saepudin, D., Husaini, A., &   Syafrin, N. (2025).
