Abstract

In the practical implementation of enhancing Quranic memorization in various schools, there are challenges involved in selecting and implementing effective strategies. Some teachers may encounter difficulties in applying suitable strategies for teaching Quranic memorization, evident in students' struggles with memorization. This study aims to explore how tahfidz teachers at Mukhtar Syafa'at Banyuwangi Distinguished Junior High School employ strategies to improve Quranic memorization, identify factors that either support or hinder these strategies, and describe the psychological implications experienced by Quranic memorizers at the school. The research utilized a qualitative approach with a case study design. The key findings are as follows: Firstly, teacher strategies for enhancing students' memorization involve classical approaches such as repetition, deposits, and simultaneous memorization. Monthly activities encompass memorization competitions, participation in events, annual programs like pilgrimage visits and tahfidz graduations, and a holiday initiative where groups memorize one juz in a day. Secondly, hindering factors include economic difficulties, broken families, lack of enthusiasm, a lack of self-motivation, and laziness. Supporting factors comprise age, students' intelligence, talents and interests, self-motivation, the environment, teachers, friends, and rewards. Thirdly, psychological implications for Quranic memorizers involve strict self-preparation and management, the obligation to maintain memorization, comprehension of the memorized recitations, and the responsibility for their implementation.

Abstract

This study analyzes the phenomenon of selective mutism in elementary school children and the role of gadget use in influencing the condition. Selective mutism is an anxiety disorder characterized by the inability of children to speak in certain environments, such as school, although they can communicate fluently in more familiar environments. Excessive use of gadgets is known to worsen selective mutism because it reduces direct social interaction, increases levels of social anxiety, and interferes with children's concentration. The purpose of this study was to identify the causes of selective mutism and evaluate the impact of gadget use on the disorder. Using a qualitative approach through interviews and observations of students at SDN Kaliwates 01 Jember, this study explored the factors that influence selective mutism, especially in relation to the impact of gadgets on increasing anxiety and limited communication in children. The results showed a relationship between gadget use and increased symptoms of selective mutism. Support from parents and schools was found to have a crucial role in regulating gadget use and improving children's social skills. This study recommends limiting gadget use and children's participation in social activities as an effort to help them gradually overcome selective mutism and build confidence in communicating in a wider social environment.

Abstract

Bullying is a serious problem in educational settings that significantly impacts students' psychological, social, and academic development. Various interventions have been developed, but most still rely on conventional psychological approaches that do not fully consider local moral values. This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness of a moral values-based group guidance service model in preventing and addressing bullying at Al-Furqan Junior High School in Jember. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation studies. The results showed that the integration of moral values such as empathy, mutual respect, trustworthiness, and social responsibility significantly changed the way students understood and interpreted bullying behavior. Students not only stopped teasing but also internalized moral shame (al-ḥayā’) and religious awareness regarding the impact of their behavior. Supporting programs such as anti-bullying drama performances, anti-bullying declarations, and the formation of Character Ambassadors reinforced this transformation through emotional experiences and collective commitment. In addition, moral-based group guidance services increase empathy capacity, encourage role changes from bystander to upstander, and create a safer and more civilized school culture.

Abstract

Learning innovation based on plastic waste recycling is a relevant contextual approach to improve science learning while instilling environmental awareness in elementary schools. This study aims to systematically analyze the types of learning innovations, media forms, impacts, and challenges of implementing plastic waste recycling as a science learning medium in elementary schools. The research method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of national scientific articles published between 2019 and 2025. Literature searches were conducted through Google Scholar, Garuda, DOAJ, and SINTA databases with relevant keywords. Selected articles were analyzed using thematic analysis and synthesized descriptively-qualitatively. The results of the study indicate that learning innovations include innovative learning media, interactive media, STEAM-based projects, P5 thematic learning, and collaborative activities based on sustainable education. The resulting media include ecobricks, educational board games, literacy trees, lapbooks, and creative products from used plastic. The implementation of these innovations positively impacts students' understanding of science concepts, learning outcomes, scientific literacy, creativity, and problem-solving skills. However, challenges remain in teacher preparedness, limited time and resources, and a lack of understanding of the economic aspects of recycled products. This study's findings confirm that using recycled plastic waste can be an effective and sustainable medium for science learning in elementary schools when supported by adequate planning and guidance.

Abstract

Low student achievement in the subject of Fiqh at the junior secondary level (SMP) remains a major challenge in Islamic religious education. Monotonous learning methods, dominated by teacher-centered lectures with minimal active student involvement, have led to a lack of conceptual understanding of both normative and applicative Islamic teachings. This study aims to examine in depth the implementation of the Cooperative Learning model type Spontaneous Group Discussion (SGD) in the teaching of Fiqh at SMP Negeri 2 Kuta Badung, and to analyze its influence on improving student learning outcomes, particularly in the cognitive domain. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including direct classroom observation, interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of student learning outcome documents. The research subjects were eighth-grade students and Islamic Education (PAI) teachers at the school. The SGD model was implemented by spontaneously dividing students into discussion groups without formal planning. Each group discussed a selected Fiqh topic and presented their findings to the class. The process was facilitated by the teacher as a discussion guide. The findings reveal that the application of the SGD model promotes an interactive, participatory, and enjoyable learning environment. Students became more active, confident, and demonstrated increased understanding of the Fiqh material. The average student score increased significantly from 63.4 (pre-test) to 81.2 (post-test), with more than 80% of students achieving scores above the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM). Additionally, teachers experienced a positive shift in their role from information deliverers to learning facilitators. The model supports the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum, particularly in shaping learners who are critical thinkers, independent, and collaborative. In conclusion, the Cooperative Learning model type SGD is effective for Fiqh instruction as it enhances student achievement while also developing character and social skills relevant to contemporary educational demands. The study recommends broader implementation of the SGD model in schools and its integration into character-based and contextually religious lesson planning. These findings are expected to serve as a valuable reference for Islamic Education teachers, curriculum developers, and policy-makers in designing transformative, learner-centered education.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in primary schools is often perceived as challenging and uninteresting by students, particularly in fraction topics that require strong visualization skills. This study aims to develop a demonstration-based fraction media designed to help students understand fraction concepts through concrete and interactive learning experiences. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation, involving 25 third-grade students from SDS Islam Ulul Albab Jember. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test assessments. The validation results showed average scores of 4.90 from media experts, 4.90 from material experts, and 4.50 from the classroom teacher, all falling under the “highly feasible” category. Student responses were also very positive, with an average score of 4.98. The effectiveness of the media was reflected in a substantial improvement in learning outcomes, with the average score increasing from 62.4 (pre-test) to 86.7 (post-test). These findings indicate that the demonstration-based fraction media is effective, engaging, and capable of enhancing students’ understanding of fraction concepts. Therefore, this media is recommended as an alternative instructional tool to support mathematics learning in primary schools, especially for topics that require visual and manipulative understanding.
