Abstract

Traditional games remain underutilized in educational settings despite their potential to foster character development through experiential learning and social interaction. This study examines the implementation of the traditional selodor game in character education, identifies the character values manifested during play, explores the obstacles encountered by teachers, and analyzes the strategies used to address these challenges. A qualitative descriptive design was employed, with data collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and fourth-grade students as data sources. The findings reveal that the implementation of selodor comprises five stages: planning, preparation, execution, guidance, and evaluation. The game facilitates the expression and reinforcement of cooperation, discipline, honesty, sportsmanship, responsibility, communication, self-confidence, and self-control. Its implementation is constrained by limited instructional time, variations in student characteristics, insufficient character habituation within the family environment, teachers’ need for greater competence, and the absence of formal curricular integration. Teachers respond to these challenges through professional training, instructional modules, extracurricular activities, parental education, and institutional support. The study demonstrates that traditional games can serve as contextually relevant media for character education when supported by teacher competence, parental involvement, and systematic school integration. These findings contribute an implementation-oriented perspective on incorporating local cultural practices into sustainable character education in primary schools.

Abstract

Internalizing discipline as a character value through Civic Education (PKn) is essential because discipline encompasses not only compliance with rules but also the development of students’ awareness and responsibility in everyday life. This study analyzes the process of internalizing discipline in Civic Education, its implications for student behavior, and the factors supporting or inhibiting this process among Grade V students at MIS NW Jantuk. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, Grade V teacher, and students as informants. The findings indicate that discipline was internalized through three stages: value transformation, value transaction, and value transinternalization. This process was reflected positively in students’ punctuality, compliance with school regulations, responsibility for completing assignments, and orderly participation in learning activities, although some students continued to require guidance and supervision. Teacher modeling, habituation, school support, and parental cooperation facilitated the internalization process, whereas limited student awareness, external environmental influences, and inadequate parental supervision constituted the principal barriers. These findings demonstrate that the effective internalization of discipline through Civic Education depends on consistent modeling and habituation reinforced by cooperation among teachers, schools, and families. The study contributes a process-oriented account of discipline formation in primary education and highlights the importance of a sustained and integrated educational environment for translating character values into student behavior.

Abstract

The nyalamaq dilauq ritual is a cherished traditional custom of the Tanjung Luar community. This study aims to describe how the internalization of educational values within the nyalamaq dilauq ritual shapes student identity in the coastal area, specifically at SD Negeri 1 Tanjung Luar in Keruak District, East Lombok. A descriptive qualitative research design was employed, utilizing data collection methods such as observation, interviews, and documentation involving the school principal, teachers, students, traditional leaders, and local residents. The findings reveal that the nyalamaq dilauq ritual holds philosophical significance as an expression of gratitude, a symbol of unity, and a mark of respect for the marine ecosystem. Educational values such as cooperation, religiosity, responsibility, environmental awareness, and social solidarity are internalized through both school-based learning activities and real-life experiences within the community. This internalization process faces several challenges, including teachers' time constraints, limited support from outside the school environment, and declining interest among the younger generation in local traditions. Efforts to address these issues include teachers setting examples, active student participation, and the integration of ritual values into school programs. The study recommends strengthening the roles of both the school and the community in preserving and instilling local cultural values to ensure their continued existence amidst the challenges of globalization and modernization.
