Abstract

Tapanuli Orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis) is a globally critical species (critically endangered) due to the decreasing area of natural habitat. Orangutans can reach out of their natural habitat outside the forest and into community fields for feeding. Orangutans make the other land use not only a place to stopover but also a home range and living area marked by nests. The study aims to obtain information on the characteristics of nests and the estimated population of the Tapanuli orangutan (TO) in the other land-use area. This research method uses line transects placed by systematic sampling with a distance between lines of 3 km and population data analysis using calculations from the van Schaik formula. From the results of the 11 research lines, 14 nests were obtained consisting of 3 class B nests, 5 class C nests, 3 class D nests, and 3 class E nests. The characteristics of the most dominant nests were class C with the most preferred positions II and III and nest finding highest in Quercus maingayi tree. The research found that the density of the TO was eight individuals/1000 ha.

Abstract

City development with unfriendly development causes the quality and quantity of open green space to decrease. Google Earth is an interactive mapping application released by google, which displays a digital visualization of the geographical shape of the earth. This study aims to determine the type and quality of trees on the urban forest in the Tanjung-Morawa sub-district and to map the quality of trees on the urban forest in the Tanjung-Morawa sub-district. This study uses a modified method of tree quality assessment with two criteria: tree health and technically criteria. From the observation result, there are 18 trees, Glodokan (Polyalthia longifolia) with the highest number, as many as 842 trees, and Dadap Merah (Erythrina crista goly) as the tree with the least amount. The quality of the trees in the urban forest shows a moderate good quality, where the highest health is in the medium category and for the technical in the low category. Trees that are recommended to be cut have a cumulative ≥ 2,5 Angsana trees with a total of 129 trees, and the highest cumulative percentage is the Banyan tree at 66,67%. The Mango tree has the lowest rate at 8,70%. Google Earth can’t be used optimally because of the low-resolution image quality. Image capture data in google earth has not been updated; the unstable internet connection and the time of the retrieval and processing of field data are not the same as the time retrieval and processing.

Abstract

Lepan watershed has declined in function over the past two decades. One of the contributing factors is unsustainable forest management and low public awareness in maintaining an ecosystem. Upstream damage occurs due to illegal logging and deforestation for agricultural purposes or exploitation of forest products. Meanwhile, the conversion of forest land into commercial or residential use occurs in the middle to downstream areas. The research used a descriptive analysis method based on Situation, Structure, Behavior, Performance (SSBP), and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method with data processing using the Expert Choice software. Research shows that the government's percentage of performance related to policies that have been implemented in the Lepan watershed is considered reasonable by the community, with a value reaching 62%. Alternatives in providing of Lepan watershed being healthy is returning of function by value weight 5.6, conservation by value weight 3.4, and planting by value weight 2.1

Abstract

Mangrove forests can be used directly or indirectly by communities/farmer groups around the coast. However, with the rampant forest destruction that occurs, the community or farmer groups need to be equipped with capacity building about the importance of the mangrove ecosystem and its impact on their livelihood. This study aims to identify the condition of mangrove forests in the research area and determine strategies for institutional development of forest farmer groups in coastal areas at the Production Forest Management Unit. The research method used is a qualitative method with interviews; while the analytical method used is the SWOT analysis. Based on the results of the analysis of the Internal Factor Analysis Summary (IFAS) with a strength factor value of 0.054 and a weakness value of 0.47. From the calculation of the internal environment score (IFAS) value, namely the strength factor minus the weakness factor, the value of x was obtained as the horizontal axis 0.054-0.047 = 0.007. Based on the External Factor Analysis Summary (EFAS) analysis results, the opportunity factor had a value of 0.054 with threats having a value of 0.047. The results showed that the external calculation score (EFAS), namely the opportunity factor (opportunities) reduced by the threat factor, obtained the Y value as the vertical. The identification of internal (IFAS) and external (EFAS) factors indicated that the position of institutional development of forest farmer groups in coastal areas was in quadrant one (I) or in an aggressive position that supports the SO development strategy (aggressive development strategy)

Abstract

Tropical forests in Indonesia, which are mega biodiversity countries, have a rich diversity of species, including the Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis). This species is found in the Batangtoru landscape, mostly in the Other Use Areas (OUA) zone, which can pose a potential threat. The importance of meaningful and long-term local stakeholder engagement. It is necessary to strengthen the management capacity among stakeholders. Therefore, a study of the strategy for developing conservation area management is required. This research aimed to analyze the development and management strategy of conservation areas by related institutions to support the Tapanuli orangutan population and habitat conservation. Despite facing various threats to orangutan conservation, stakeholders still have internal strength. The strategy that must be implemented is to use strength to take advantage of long-term opportunities through a diversification strategy

Abstract

Securing law enforcement in a legal state involves the crucial role of judges in adhering to procedural regulations. However, at times, their decisions spark controversy within the nation due to a lack of adherence to the proper legal reasoning. This is especially evident in issues related to elections, which should ideally serve as a means of upholding the people's sovereignty based on legal principles. This article, employing the IRAC method, dissects the legal reasoning complexities in the Constitutional Court's Decision Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023, laden with political nuances. Through legal research methodology grounded in legislative approaches and supported by legal research literature, several noteworthy points emerge. These include concerns regarding the legal standing of the petitioner, inconsistencies in the court's decision clause concerning the calculation of judges issuing dissenting opinions, and the oversight of norms in Article 17 Paragraph (5) of Law Number 48 of 2009 concerning Judicial Power.

Abstract

Deli watersheds are listed as one of the most heavily damaged watersheds in Indonesia, and this causes many problems, such as floods, flash floods, and landslides. Studying this watershed becomes essential because the Deli watershed passes through a major city and has become the main source of flood and other natural disasters in the city such as Medan, The study aims to detect the vulnerability level of the areas around the watershed and the most rapid and possible way to study it is by using remote sensing and GIS, the overlay method by considering several parameters that affect the level of vulnerability to flooding in Deli Watershed, North Sumatra. Some of the parameters considered include the topographic wetness index, slope, land elevation, river flow density, land use cover, normalized difference vegetation index, distance to river, and rainfall. Each parameter is given a weight and value according to each classifier. The overlay process is carried out using ArcGIS 10.8.1 software, results are divided into 5 levels of area vulnerabilities all around the area, the study shows that all parts of Medan City in the Deli watershed have a high level of flood vulnerability and some areas with higher ground elevation such as Tanah Karo have spots area that is vulnerable with floods such as Daulu District with 0.45 ha and Semangat Gunung District with 0.63 ha of its areas are vulnerable to floods. The Topographic wetness index, Normalized difference vegetation Index, slope, and land use are the main factors causing flooding with weighting values 16, 13, 11, and 14. The other parameters elevation, flow density, distance to the river, rainfall, and soil class each have weighting values 7, 10, 11, 8, and 10. Slope with a range of 0-8% in most areas of Medan City are classified as very prone to flood inundation. This is due to the area's flat topography and low river flow density, the existing 3.5 km old sewer in the Deli Tua area is unable to accommodate the flood inundation load in the city of Medan and it is necessary to build two new sewers which are more effective and efficient in diverting the flow of water, before entering the city of Medan which makes the area vulnerable to becoming a water catchment area when it rains, thereby increasing the risk of flooding. With this flood-prone map, efforts to manage and mitigate floods in Medan City can be carried out. Information on vulnerable locations can be used to take appropriate preventive and countermeasures, such as building adequate drainage, regulating land use, and controlling river flows.
