Abstract

Village livestock waste presents both an environmental burden and an underutilized resource capable of strengthening rural livelihoods when transformed into marketable organic fertilizer. This study develops a community-based circular agribusiness model that integrates market validation, pricing analysis, and value-chain coordination to improve the commercial feasibility of waste-to-fertilizer initiatives in rural Indonesia. A convergent mixed-methods design was implemented, combining a Price Sensitivity Meter survey with Cost–Volume–Profit and Break-Even Point calculations, supported by a simplified Value Chain Analysis involving farmers, processors, kiosks, and local cooperative actors. Data were collected from 60 small-scale livestock households, 150 fertilizer users, and 12–15 key informants across Arjasa District. Findings indicate an acceptable price range of IDR 40,000–80,000 per 25-kg bag, with an optimal price point near IDR 60,000. At this level, contribution margins remain positive across direct, cooperative, and kiosk channels, with the break-even requirement estimated at 180–230 bags per month. The value-chain assessment reveals constraints related to moisture variability, inconsistent granulometry, and high last-mile distribution costs. Proposed coordination measures include minimum quality standards, scheduled collection and delivery routes, and simple offtake agreements with a 3–5% quality-based incentive. Together, these elements form a replicable empowerment-oriented model that enhances income stability, reduces waste, and supports community-driven resource governance. The study demonstrates that circular agribusiness, when anchored in market evidence and locally manageable coordination mechanisms, can contribute to socio-economic resilience and strengthen community participation in sustainable rural development

Abstract

Azka Food is one of the UMKM that produce coffee products, located in Klungkung Village, Jember Regency. The capacity of coffee bean produced by Azka Food are quite large, which is around 20 tons in one harvest. However, Azka Food's partners are still constrained in product marketing. Where, the marketing system carried out by Azka Food still uses the Word of Mouth Marketing (WoMM) method. The disadvantage of this method is that the process of spreading and marketing products is very slow. So that to overcome this problem, the solution provided by the Team is the introduction and implementation marketing based on marketplace. The implementation method in this activity begins with a discussion to map the needs of partners. Then, Azka Food as partners are given an introduction and assistance regarding the online marketing system. The online marketing introduced to partners is marketing based on marketplace. Partners are given an introduction to several platforms that are commonly used in the marketplace. As a result of this service activity, partners have 2 accounts on 2 selected platforms, namely Shopee and Tokopedia. Partners are also given an introduction to how to manage an online store, starting from the preparation of uploaded products to the management of the transaction system. With the use of marketing through e-commerce, it will increase marketing cost efficiency by up to 35%. This figure is measured based on the calculation of total costs, which are carried out through e-commerce and conventional methods. Where online marketing will reduce the operational costs of conventional marketing, such as print advertising or physical distribution. Online marketing will make it easier for partners to monitor through transaction data which includes sales volume and the amount of turnover received. In addition, the reach of marketing areas and customers will be wider without any additional operational costs.

Abstract

Smallholder dairy farming plays a crucial role in rural livelihoods and food security in developing countries, yet it is highly exposed to multidimensional risks that threaten its sustainability. While previous studies have examined agricultural risks and sustainability separately, limited attention has been given to how these risks interact to shape system resilience and adaptive capacity. This study aims to analyze resilience in smallholder dairy farming by integrating Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) with a multidimensional sustainability framework. A case study was conducted in Suci Village, Jember Regency, Indonesia, involving 30 respondents, including farmers, cooperative representatives, and agricultural officers. Data were collected through focus group discussions, semi-structured interviews, and field observations. Risks were identified and assessed using an ERM-based risk register matrix, evaluated through likelihood and impact scoring. The results were subsequently reinterpreted using a resilience framework, linking risk exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. The findings reveal that most risks are concentrated in the high and extreme categories, indicating a structurally vulnerable system with low baseline resilience. Risks are highly interconnected across ecological, economic, social, and technological dimensions, generating cascading effects that amplify system instability. Technological limitations and weak institutional capacity were identified as key constraints to adaptive capacity, further increasing vulnerability to recurring shocks. This study contributes to the literature by extending ERM from a risk classification tool into a resilience-oriented analytical framework. By integrating risk management with sustainability dimensions, the study provides a novel approach to understanding and strengthening resilience in smallholder agribusiness systems. The findings offer practical implications for developing integrated, context-specific strategies to enhance long-term sustainability and adaptive capacity in smallholder dairy farming.

Abstract

Purpose – This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Entrepreneur Development Class (EDC), the foundational learning phase of Indonesia’s Wirausaha Merdeka program, by examining topic-level learning gains across ten instructional modules. The study responds to persistent limitations in entrepreneurship education evaluation, including the dominance of perception-based measures, the reliance on aggregate outcomes, the limited empirical evidence on Wirausaha Merdeka, and the limited use of normalized gain analysis in assessing instructional effectiveness. Design/methodology/approach – A quantitative one-group pre-test–post-test design was employed using a complete cohort of 550 students from twelve vocational higher education institutions participating in the 2024 Wirausaha Merdeka program coordinated by Politeknik Negeri Jember. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, paired-samples t-tests, Hake’s normalized gain (g), and Cohen’s d effect size. Findings/Results – The overall mean score increased from 70.40 to 95.25, yielding a high normalized gain (g = 0.84) and a very large effect size (d = 1.70). Business Idea Development emerged as the most effective module (g = 0.90), whereas Pondasi Bisnis Berkah produced the lowest gain (g = 0.68). The findings suggest that instructional effectiveness varies across competency domains and is influenced by both baseline knowledge and the characteristics of the learning outcomes targeted. Originality/Value – This study contributes to entrepreneurship education research by introducing a topic-level evaluation framework that combines objective knowledge assessment, normalized gain analysis, effect-size estimation, and significance testing. The approach provides a more diagnostic understanding of instructional effectiveness than aggregate program-level measures and offers practical guidance for curriculum improvement, quality assurance, and policy evaluation in large-scale vocational entrepreneurship programs.

Abstract

Sustainable dairy farming plays a critical role in achieving local food self-sufficiency, yet smallholder farmers face multidimensional risks that threaten production and income sustainability. This study aims to classify these sustainability-related risks by applying an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework. Conducted in Suci Village, Jember Regency, Indonesia, this research employed a mixed-method approach combining Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), field observations, and expert validation. Risks were evaluated using a Risk Register matrix based on likelihood and impact. The findings reveal that ecological, economic, social, and technological aspects significantly influence sustainability performance. Ecological risks such as feed shortages, waste pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions were classified as extreme. Economic risks included high feed costs, low milk productivity, and disease outbreaks. Social risks emerged from low farmer income and community conflict due to waste mismanagement, while technological risks were associated with limited cooling systems and low adoption of digital technology. The classification highlights the urgent need for a simplified, community-based risk management system integrating ERM principles for smallholder farmers to enhance resilience and long-term sustainability.
