Abstract

This study examines the role of the food distribution system and product innovation in enhancing the availability and affordability of functional foods in Sukabumi District. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 170 respondents through a structured questionnaire employing a Likert scale of 1 to 5. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Partial Least Squares (PLS) was utilized to analyze the relationships between variables. The results reveal that the food distribution system has a strong positive effect on affordability and a moderate effect on availability, while product innovation significantly impacts both affordability and availability, with a stronger influence on the latter. The combined explanatory power for affordability and availability demonstrates the critical interplay between distribution efficiency and innovation in ensuring functional food accessibility. These findings provide actionable insights for policymakers, producers, and distributors to address logistical and innovation-related challenges, thereby promoting sustainable food systems in the region.

Abstract

Abstract

Many social problems have occurred in our beloved country, including poverty. This is a social problem that we must face through joint planning; if not considered and not handled properly, it will hurt the community’s economy, both now and in the future. With this problem, the community can create a way to survive later without considering the negative impacts that can arise or be caused to themselves or those around them. In Belinteng village, Sei Bingai sub-district, Langkat district, there are several farmer group organizations where the farmer groups join and work together to improve the economy. In Belinteng village, there is a problem that exists, namely, that there is no role for farmer groups in the village, so that if a problem arises, the farmers immediately notify the extension worker. Farmer organizations play an important role in the development of the agricultural sector in Indonesia, which is one of the media for solving farmers' problems. In addition, farmer organizations can ensure that farmers unite and work together for the good of fellow farmers and not vice versa, to bring each other down and look weak in front of large companies and modern markets. This study also aims to analyze the level of empowerment of corn farmers through farmer groups and the problems face. How is the level of empowerment of corn farmers through farmer groups in Belinteng village, Sei Bingai sub-district, Langkat district, North Sumatra province? The research method in the journal used in this study is qualitative and quantitative data, while the data sources used are secondary data and primary data.

Abstract

Smallholder rubber is a leading commodity that plays a vital role in the regional economy, particularly in Mandailing Natal Regency, which is known as one of the main rubber-producing areas in North Sumatra. However, the marketing system for smallholder rubber in this region still faces several structural constraints that significantly affect farmers' income. This article aims to analyze the distribution channels, margin distribution, and marketing efficiency of smallholder rubber in Mandailing Natal using a literature review approach. The data were obtained from various scientific publications, government reports, and agribusiness studies published over the past ten years. The review found two common marketing channel patterns: a long channel (farmers ? local collectors ? wholesalers ? factories) and a short channel (farmers ? wholesalers ? factories). The short channel proves to be more profitable for farmers by reducing intermediaries and increasing marketing efficiency. Additionally, farmers' share of profit margins increases significantly under the short channel. Nonetheless, challenges such as weak farmer institutions, limited market access, and lack of price information remain major obstacles. Therefore, recommended strategies include establishing marketing cooperatives, improving distribution infrastructure, and digitizing price information systems. Enhancing the existing marketing system is expected to improve the welfare of smallholder rubber farmers in Mandailing Natal sustainably.
