Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' perceptions and satisfaction with the free nutritious meal program and to examine the efficiency of fund allocation from an economic and Islamic social justice perspective. Field research was conducted on 190 students from three elementary schools in Central Java using a mixed-method approach. Quantitative data were obtained through surveys, while qualitative data were collected through interviews with teachers, parents, cooks, and education observers. The results show that 91% of students prefer food cooked by their parents to food provided en masse by external parties. The main factors influencing student dissatisfaction include the poor taste of the food, concerns about food poisoning, and the fact that much of the food is not eaten at school but taken home or thrown away. From an efficiency perspective, providing cash assistance of IDR 15,000 directly to parents is considered more economical because it avoids operational costs and allows the National Nutrition Agency to continue monitoring nutrition. In addition, an analysis of social justice based on Islamic law shows that the program should focus on poor students (around 9% of the population), so that distribution is more equitable and the budget can be redirected to support primary school needs or improve teacher welfare. This study emphasizes that free nutritious food policies require a more adaptive approach that considers student satisfaction, budget efficiency, and social justice principles, so the goal of improving child nutrition can be optimally achieved.

Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct multiple intelligences as a system for activating human potential in primary education through a multi-site qualitative study in five schools in Kudus, namely MI Negeri Prambatan, SD al-Islam Glantengan, SD Islam Nawakartika Langgardalem, MI Muhammadiyah Damaran, and SD Kristen Cahaya Nur Barongan. The research was conducted from August 2023 to February 2024 and involved five school principals and ten teachers as key informants. Data were collected through in-depth observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, and were then analyzed thematically and constructively to develop theoretical propositions. The findings show that multiple intelligences operate through three systemic mechanisms: the diagnosis of potential through continuous observation, the activation of potential through a multimodal learning ecosystem that integrates various types of intelligence, and the validation of potential through multidimensional, authentic assessment. This process not only increases learning engagement but also transforms students' identities from passive recipients to active agents capable of developing reflective, creative, and adaptive thinking capacities. This research contributes by developing the Multiple Intelligences as Pedagogical Activation System theoretical model, which reconceptualizes the role of multiple intelligences from mere learning strategies into an ontological system for activating human potential, and opens new directions in the development of educational theory and practice that are more oriented towards transforming student potential.

Abstract

Modern education still tends to view learning as a continuous conscious activity, thereby overlooking the role of the resting phase in the cognitive process. This study aims to reconstruct the meaning of napping in tahfidz learning as a philosophical phenomenon through the perspectives of ontology, epistemology, and axiology. The study was conducted at Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah Pesantren-Based through observations of 530 students and in-depth interviews with students, teachers, and religious leaders, using a qualitative approach grounded in philosophical-contextual analysis. The results indicate that napping serves as a rhythmic structure in learning, bridging phases of activity and consolidation. Students experience improved fluency in memorization, reduced errors, and enhanced clarity of thought after napping. These findings affirm that knowledge is formed not only through conscious processes but also through latent processes operating in silence. Furthermore, this practice contributes to emotional stability, psychological balance, and a more human-centered learning experience. The primary novelty of this study lies in the formulation of the concept of “silent epistemology” as a new paradigm in tahfidz education. Its implications point toward the reconstruction of learning designs that are more aligned with students’ biological rhythms and spiritual needs.

Abstract

Oxygen sustains life, yet in elementary education, it is often treated as an abstract concept detached from real-world experience. This study examines how understanding of oxygen is constructed through tree-planting activities. The approach used was a qualitative case study, with data collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation from October to December 2023 in SD Negeri Harjowinangun 02 Dempet Demak. The results reveal a multi-layered transformation. On the cognitive dimension, students transitioned from a general understanding to recognising the cause-and-effect relationship between trees and oxygen. On the affective dimension, emotional engagement emerged in the form of ecological concern and empathy. On the social dimension, collective responsibility was fostered through collaborative practices and social control. These three dimensions are integrated into a single experience-based learning process. These findings confirm that concrete experiences serve as an epistemic bridge connecting scientific concepts with living ecological awareness. The novelty of this research lies in the development of oxygen-based ecological pedagogy as an integrative model that unites experience, reflection, emotion, and social practice. This model expands science learning toward contextual practice and strengthens sustainable environmental education

Abstract

Background: In an increasingly digitized global educational landscape, public speaking has become an essential competency. However, at the elementary education level—particularly in Islamic education—the development of public speaking confidence is often overlooked and treated as an advanced skill, with limited integration into digital pedagogical practices. Purpose: This study aims to analyze how public speaking confidence can be built from an early age through the integration of daily conversations, video production, and digital distribution, and to formulate a pedagogical model that systematically explains this process. Method: A qualitative case study was conducted at MI Tahfidzul Qur’an Raudlatul Falah, Pati. Data were collected through participant observation, interviews with 5 teachers, 5 parents, 15 students, and 1 religious’ leader (Kiai), as well as the analysis of 20 student videos from July 2023 to January 2024. Analysis was conducted using inductive thematic analysis. Findings: The results of the study indicate that students’ confidence is developed through a recurring pedagogical cycle of “speak–record–publish,” supported by performative transformations (vocal, nonverbal, and structural) and multi-actor social interaction networks. A synthesis of these findings yields a new model, the Digital Performative Habitus Model, which asserts that confidence in speaking is the result of integrating experience, visual reflection, and social validation within a digital learning ecosystem.

Abstract

A rigid and stressful classroom environment can reduce students’ motivation and increase academic anxiety. Humour in learning serves as an effective pedagogical strategy to enhance engagement, reduce tension, and strengthen memory retention. However, not all types of humour positively influence the learning process. This study aims to identify the most effective types of humour and optimal strategies for their implementation in Indonesian higher education. Employing a qualitative-phenomenological approach, data were collected through structured interviews with 40 students from multiple universities. The findings reveal that academic humour is the most effective in improving comprehension and retention, while spontaneous humour promotes student engagement. In contrast, irrelevant or excessive humour tends to distract students from their focus. The study's novelty lies in integrating Islamic educational values with Western educational psychology to explain the role of humour in fostering a balanced, enjoyable, and ethically guided learning environment. The research aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by emphasizing the importance of inclusive and engaging pedagogical practices that enhance the quality of learning in higher education. The study also provides practical recommendations for lecturers to apply humour responsibly as a pedagogical tool that supports motivation, engagement, and meaningful learning.

Abstract

Early childhood talent exploration by Early Childhood Education (ECED) teachers is an essential challenge in optimizing children's future potential. However, teachers' methods are often insufficiently structured, with constraints regarding training, limited time, and resources. This study aims to explore the methods used by ECD teachers in researching children's talents and the constraints they face in implementing these strategies. The technique used was a qualitative approach with a case study involving in-depth interviews with 10 teachers and observations in three PAUD institutions. The results show that spontaneous observation, project-based activities, and standardized evaluation tools are the primary methods teachers implement. However, most teachers face constraints regarding lack of training, limited time, and inadequate resources. To improve the effectiveness of talent acquisition, this study suggests the importance of continuous training, increased resources, and the application of more systematic evaluation methods. The findings contribute to the development of early childhood education theory and practice and point to the need for policies that support the development of teachers' skills in identifying and developing children's talents.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the philosophical construction of leadership simplicity in the digital space through ontological, epistemological, and axiological perspectives. Design/methodology/approach: This study employs a qualitative, netnographic design. Data were collected from 518 public comments on Instagram posts from the @arsip.peristiwa account featuring figures of simple leadership, along with interaction data in the form of likes and shares. Purposive sampling was used to ensure data relevance. Analysis was conducted through thematic analysis combined with philosophical interpretation. Data validity was maintained through triangulation, audit trails, and critical reflection. Findings: Leadership simplicity is constructed in a multidimensional manner. Ontologically, simplicity is understood as the authentic essence of leadership. Epistemologically, knowledge about simplicity is shaped through collective memory, digital narratives, and social comparison. Axiologically, simplicity functions as a primary moral value, a tool for social critique, and a projection of future hopes. Practical Implications: For leaders and practitioners, simplicity must be managed not only as an internal value but also as a consistent public representation in the digital space. Originality/value: This study introduces the concept of the Digital Moral Ontology of Leadership Simplicity as a new theoretical contribution that expands understanding of leadership in the digital age, while also opening up new methodological approaches through the combination of netnography and philosophical analysis. Abstract

This study examines how underpaid teachers in private Islamic junior secondary schools (madrasah tsanawiyah) in rural Indonesia make sense of their profession amid persistent economic constraints. Against a broader context of precarious educational labor and limited welfare provision, the research explores how religious values shape teachers’ commitment and coping strategies. Using a qualitative approach with an interpretative phenomenological design, data were collected through observations of 62 teachers and in-depth interviews with six teachers and two school principals in Demak. Thematic analysis was conducted through open, axial, and selective coding. The findings reveal that teaching is constructed not merely as employment but as a religious calling and moral devotion, fostering a form of moral resilience that sustains teachers despite low and unstable income. At the same time, teachers engage in hybrid livelihood strategies—including farming, small-scale trading, and informal work—to meet their economic needs while maintaining their pedagogical identity. However, this moral framing also risks normalizing structural inequality and symbolic exploitation. This study contributes to the literature by proposing the concept of “moral resilience through religious calling” within a moral economy of teaching, integrating religious, economic, and educational dimensions in understanding teacher sustainability in the Global South.

Abstract

Integral education has regained prominence amid concerns that contemporary education usually separates academic achievement from moral, spiritual, and personal development. Within Islamic education, this issue is a theoretical one; embodied religious practices must be interpreted through both Indonesian educational philosophy and maqasid al-shariah, without reducing either framework to a prescriptive ideal. The present study examines the institutionalization of tirakat practices in two children’s pesantren in Central Java and analyzes their educational significance through the perspectives of Ki Hadjar Dewantara’s educational anthropology and contemporary maqāṣid scholarship. A qualitative multiple-case study was conducted over two years, employing observations, in-depth interviews with 22 students, 2 kiai, and 10 teachers, and analysis of institutional documents. Data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis and abductive interpretation. The results show that fasting, tahajud, wirid, and tahfidz al-Qur’an are interconnected practices that foster bodily discipline, spiritual internalization, self-regulation, ethical awareness, and holistic development. These themes correspond analytically with the five dimensions of maqasid al-shariah. The study puts forward the Integral Maqasid-Based Dual Formation Model as a contextually grounded conceptual framework, supported by empirical evidence and developed through interpretive analysis. Future research needs to evaluate its applicability across different age groups, pesantren traditions, and educational contexts.
