Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the relevance of Abdullah Nashih Ulwan’s concept of child education in Tarbiyat al-Aulad fi al-Islam to the development of modern Islamic character education. Ulwan emphasizes the importance of balanced development encompassing faith, morality, intellect, social awareness, and physical growth as the foundation for forming a holistic Islamic personality (syakhshiyyah islamiyyah). Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach through literature analysis, this study explores Ulwan’s five educational methods: exemplary behavior, advice and guidance, habituation, supervision, and educational punishment. The findings indicate that Ulwan’s educational principles remain relevant to contemporary character education models, such as those proposed by Thomas Lickona, which integrate cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions. In the digital era, Ulwan’s educational values can be implemented through the ethical use of digital media, strengthening the moral roles of teachers and parents, and designing curricula that integrate spiritual and social dimensions. This study contributes to the academic discourse on Islamic moral education and provides a theoretical foundation for future research on the application of Ulwan’s ideas in technology-based learning environments

Abstract

This study investigates the strategies, evaluation mechanisms, and developmental recommendations for character-based Islamic Religious Education (IRE) curriculum innovation at SMK Aswaja Banyuwangi. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach with a single case study design, the research explores how vocational frameworks systematically integrate spiritual traditions with modern educational demands. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with key informants, field observations, and documentation reviews, followed by thematic analysis and rigorous triangulation to ensure internal validity. Results indicate that curriculum innovation is driven by a comprehensive need analysis aimed at aligning learning with contemporary dynamics while maintaining holistic character building. The implementation utilizes student-centered models, specifically Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) supported by digital platforms like Canva and Quizizz, which effectively foster creativity, critical thinking, and religious discipline. Furthermore, the evaluation framework shifts from conventional testing to a continuous, comprehensive system incorporating worship monitoring journals and behavioral rubrics. The findings imply that a synergy between institutional leadership and pedagogical technology can successfully unify vocational competence with Islamic spiritual values. However, the study is limited by its specific case scope and a restricted participant pool, necessitating caution regarding broader generalizability. Consequently, future research should focus on longitudinal assessments of character outcomes and the diversification of AI-supported tools to mitigate teacher adaptation fatigue in rapidly changing policy environments.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation model of religious moderation at MAN 1 Yogyakarta in responding to the challenges of the post-truth era, marked by widespread disinformation and shifts in religious values. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research focuses on strategic design, institutional support, and the impact of the program on students’ character development. The values of moderation are integrated into the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and school culture to shape students who are critical, tolerant, and inclusive. The findings indicate that MAN 1 Yogyakarta has successfully internalized moderation through innovative programs such as SANDI MAS, the Islamic History Tour, and interfaith dialogue. These programs have had a positive impact on improving students’ cognitive understanding, affective attitudes, and social behavior. The model reflects a transformative learning approach that strengthens critical religious literacy and pluralistic values in addressing contemporary ideological challenges. This study recommends that other Islamic educational institutions adopt an integrative approach that combines pedagogical, cultural, and personal dimensions to foster a moderate, tolerant, and diversity-oriented generation.

Abstract

Digitalization is one of the Indonesian government's efforts to equalize access to education and reduce the problem of the digital divide in the educational context. This article aims to explore the extent to which digitalization policies have helped teachers in elementary schools in Raba District, Bima City to improve access to and quality of education and overcome their digital disadvantages. The method used in this research is qualitative with a case study approach. The respondents of this study were 13 teachers from 4 elementary schools, 1 school principal, and 1 elementary school supervisor. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that there are two aspects of education digitalization policies that directly affect respondents. The first is the digitization of educational policy communications. In this aspect, teachers experience accelerated access to information about education policies and information in general. Teachers have a better understanding of national education policies and are able to follow direct directions from the central government through available information channels. In the second aspect, namely the digitalization of the teaching and learning process, teachers have not utilized the digital facilities provided to maximize the learning process even though they are aware that the government provides these facilitie.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of character education and religious moderation at SMP Negeri 3 Turi Sleman. The research focuses on the programs, implementation, evaluation, and integration of character and moderation values within Islamic Education (PAI) learning. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that character education is implemented through programs such as JAGLING (Environmental Care), Pendidikan Khas Jogja (PKJ) emphasizing the value of “ngajeni” (respect for elders), and disciplinary practices like morning assemblies and congregational prayers. In terms of religious moderation, the school organizes inclusive activities such as Friday Islamic studies for Muslim students and worship sessions for non-Muslims. Program evaluation is routinely conducted through monthly meetings and student participation records. The results indicate that the integration of character education and religious moderation has created a harmonious, religious, and tolerant school culture. These programs strengthen Islamic education by shaping students who are ethical, socially aware, and religiously moderate.

Abstract

Purpose – This research aimed to investigate the reinforcement of student character education amidst massive digital disruption, hypothesizing that an interdisciplinary model combining technological regulation, institutional rituals, and peer-led interventions significantly enhances moral resilience. Design/methods– The study employed a qualitative descriptive design conducted at a centralized boarding school in Indonesia, chosen for its integrated digital governance. Data collection procedures involved participant observation and in-depth interviews with students and educators, focusing on variables such as digital transparency, peer conformity, and behavioral habituation. Findings – Results indicated that implementing school-based applications for attendance and permits served as effective moral scaffolding, fostering honesty and accountability through transparent data tracking. Furthermore, periodic restrictions on gadget access were found to mitigate dopaminergic-driven distractions, allowing students to practice tangible time discipline and self-regulation. The findings also revealed that peer modeling and cooperative learning successfully transformed "herd mentality" into positive social imitation, significantly increasing student engagement in religious and academic rituals. These results imply that educational policies must transition from passive, conventional instruction to active, technological adaptations that align with adolescent neurobiological development. Future studies should consider longitudinal analysis to evaluate the long-term sustainability of these digital-moral habits. This paper includes 50 references and 12 tables, including interview protocols and technological monitoring instruments
