Abstract

The radiator is an important component in a motorcycle cooling system that functions to control engine temperature. The design and thickness of the fins on the radiator play a key role in determining the efficiency of heat transfer and pressure drop in the system. This study analyzes the effect of variations in fin thickness (0.14 mm, 0.17 mm, and 0.19 mm) on radiator performance using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. Simulations were performed at air velocities of 16.7 m/s, 27.8 m/s, and 33.3 m/s, with ethylene glycol coolant at 373 K and ambient air at 300 K. The simulation results show that thinner fin thicknesses, such as 0.14 mm, are more effective in reducing the coolant outlet temperature, with the lowest temperature achieved being 306.091 K. However, thinner fins also produce higher air outlet temperatures. Conversely, a fin thickness of 0.19 mm shows lower heat transfer efficiency, indicated by a higher coolant outlet temperature. The 0.17 mm fin thickness provides the best balance between coolant temperature drop and air outlet temperature, making it the optimal choice for efficient radiator design. With the right radiator design, the efficiency of the cooling system can be improved, which in turn contributes to better engine performance and longer engine life

Abstract

This study analyzes one of the components in the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) system, namely the CVT spring. The aim of this research is to determine the power, torque, acceleration, and fuel consumption produced by each different CVT spring. The study utilizes an experimental approach by testing four CVT springs with varying spring constants. Each spring was installed on the vehicle and tested using a dynotest to measure the resulting power, torque, acceleration, and engine speed. Fuel consumption tests were conducted through road testing over short and long distances (10 km to 90 km) with a maximum speed of 75 km/h. The test results indicate that each spring generates a different transmission ratio, which affects the resulting power, torque, acceleration, and fuel consumption. The highest maximum power was achieved when using a CVT spring with 20% stiffness, reaching 11.3 hp at 6493 RPM. The maximum torque was obtained with a 10% stiffer CVT spring, reaching 13.1 Nm at 6042 RPM. The highest acceleration was recorded with a 30% stiffer CVT spring, achieving 8.8 m/s² at a speed of 22 km/h in 0.51 seconds. The most efficient fuel consumption was found with the standard CVT spring, both for short and long distances, achieving 47.6 km/L over a short distance of 10 km and 54.7 km/L over a long distance of 90 km.

Abstract

Chocolate has long been understood to provide positive emotions and a good mood if consumed in moderation. Chocolate contains prebiotics naturally from its constituent ingredients produced during the production process. Prebiotics, frequently oligosaccharides, are substances which cannot be metabolized by the human digestive system but can be employed by a group of bacteria in the gut, understood as probiotics. The positive relationship among them provides benefits for the host in eliminating pathogens. One of the well-known pathogens which frequently cause infection either in the community or in hospitals is methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Since it was first identified in 1960, MRSA has caused health problems until today. Research conducted on two groups of Rattus norvegicus infected with MRSA and then fed chocolate revealed a decrease in the average number of bacterial colonies on the skin compared to the control group. In the group fed chocolate at a dose of 50 mg/day, the bacterial colonies decreased to 1.28 x 108 CFU/cm2 in 7 days, lower than in the control group (1.46 x 108 CFU/cm2) at the same time. While those fed 75 mg/day chocolate decreased to 2.70 x 107 CFU/cm2 and the three groups were significantly different (0.000<0.05). Prebiotics fermented by probiotics release short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), which compete with the pathogens for attaching to the epithelial wall so that pathogens lose space and nutrients to survive. However, the adverse effect of chocolate may occur because it contains sugar which is a nutrient for bacteria, but if the balance of normal flora and adequate intake of prebiotics are administered, the pathogen could be eliminated.
