Abstract

This study aims to examine why seafarers engage in simultaneous tasks, which may lead to accidents. In an exploratory qualitative study, face-to-face interviews were conducted with selective and targeted seafarers previously involved in maritime accidents. The collected data were analysed using interpretive and descriptive qualitative methods with a socio-cultural approach. The findings of this study show that the substantial regulatory changes over the years in the maritime industry have resulted in increased occupational workload for seafarers. Some of these regulatory barriers designed to improve safety at sea prompted seafarers to engage in simultaneous tasks to perform excessive paperwork and compensate for insufficient crewing. The research also revealed how a poor speak-up culture onboard might encourage simultaneous tasks leading to accidents at sea. The analysis shows that reasons for engaging in simultaneous tasks at sea are varied and complex. Therefore, complex intervention efforts to discourage seafarers from engaging in simultaneous tasks is needed to mitigate accidents at sea.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic greatly affects all aspects of human life, especially the running of an organization, one of which is PT. Karya Tekhnik Utama. Communication is the key to how PT. Karya Tekhnik Utama can survive and coexist with Covid-19. Communication that is carried out within an organization is called organizational communication, where in organizational communication there is a communication pattern. The purpose of this study was to see how the communication patterns that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic at PT. Karya Tekhnik Utama uses Goldhaber Organizational Communication Theory. In Goldhaber Organizational Communication Theory, there are seven key stages of communication that need to be considered in organizational communication. The seven keys are process, message, network, relationship, interdependence, environment and uncertainty. This study used descriptive qualitative methods and data collection in this study was conducted by interview and observation. The results showed that the communication patterns that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic at PT Karya Tekhnik Utama were formal and informal communication, direct and indirect communication, and the communication network pattern formed was the free channel or star communication network pattern.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran, pemahaman, dan keterampilan masyarakat di sekitar Waduk Kedung Ombo mengenai pentingnya penggunaan alat keselamatan pelayaran untuk mengurangi risiko kecelakaan dan meningkatkan keselamatan aktivitas di perairan waduk kedung ombo. Permasalahan yang Dihadapi Masyarakat adalah masih rendahnya Tingkat Kesadaran Masyarakat di sekitar Waduk Kedung Ombo yang sering mengabaikan pentingnya alat keselamatan pelayaran seperti penggunaan jaket pelampung keselamatan dan kurang memahami pentingnya penggunaan alat komunikasi darurat, tidak memiliki kemampuan untuk membeli alat keselamatan yang memadai karena keterbatasan ekonomi, kurangnya program penyuluhan dan pelatihan dari pemerintah setempat tentang keselamatan pelayaran. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan partisipatif yang melibatkan masyarakat secara aktif dalam seluruh tahapan kegiatan. Tahap Pendahuluan dengan cara melakukan observasi dan wawancara, kemudian tahap Pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui pertemuan dengan masyarakat, pengenalan jenis-jenis alat keselamatan pelayaran, melakukan pelatihan penggunaan jaket pelampung dan alat keselamatan lainnya, dan di akhiri dengan simulasi penyelamatan darurat. Selanjutnya tahap Evaluasi dan Keberlanjutan berupa evaluasi perubahan pengetahuan, sikap, dan praktik masyarakat, melaksanakan pengembangan mekanisme swadaya untuk pengadaan alat keselamatan, dan diakhiri dengan penyusunan rencana tindak lanjut bersama masyarakat. Kegiatan ini telah berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran, pengetahuan, dan keterampilan masyarakat terkait keselamatan pelayaran. Pendekatan komprehensif yang diterapkan, meliputi edukasi, pembentukan keterampilan, pengadaan alat, pengembangan kebijakan dan terbukti efektif dalam menciptakan perubahan perilaku yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This study discusses the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in the production process of non-news broadcast programs at the Public Broadcasting Institution (LPP) TVRI Yogyakarta. Using qualitative methods, this study emphasizes descriptive analysis based on in-depth observations of the implementation of AI in broadcast production. The results of the study indicate that the application of AI contributes to increased efficiency and creativity, especially in scriptwriting and music creation. AI allows the production team to create more original content and reduce the risk of copyright infringement. Despite providing significant benefits, the implementation of AI is still limited due to resource constraints, data input accuracy, and lack of technical training. Driving factors such as central policies and ease of production also support the adoption of this technology. Overall, AI has positive prospects at TVRI Yogyakarta, but requires further development to be optimal in broadcast production.

Abstract

Uji kompetensi keahlian (UKK) merupakan proses penilaian melalui pengumpulan bukti yang relevan sehingga didapatkan bahwa seseorang mampu memiliki kompetensi pada suatu klasifikasi tertentu. ketidakmampuan pelaut Indonesia untuk bersaing dengan negara lain dapat dilihat dari standar gaji yang diberikan oleh Perusahaan pelayaran. Standar gaji pelaut Filipina lebih tinggi daripada standar gaji pelaut Indonesia. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk mengetahui pencapaian pengetahuan dan keterampilan siswa dalam penguasaan permesinan di atas kapal dan mempersiapkan sumber daya manusia kepelautan dalam menghadapi dunia kerja. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah penulis melaksanakan observasi langsung sebagai penguji uji kompetensi keahlian kepelautan dengan cara pendampingan kepada peserta didik sebagai asesor eksternal dan bertanggung jawab untuk menilai tingkat pemahaman dan kompetensi peserta didik dalam ujian kompetensi keahlian (UKK) kepelautan. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi pelaksanaan ujian keahlian kompetensi sebanyak sembilan siswa memperoleh nilai dengan rentang 75-90 dengan kriteria kompeten, dan sebanyak satu siswa memperoleh nilai antara 61-74 dengan kriteria cukup kompeten dan secara keseluruhan dinyatakan lulus.

Abstract

Centrifugal pumps at the PPSDM Migas Refinery play a crucial role in the continuous fluid transfer process. However, these components are prone to various problems, such as misalignment, bearing wear, and imbalance, which can cause serious damage to production downtime. This research aims to analyze the condition of the P100/3 centrifugal pump with a vibration data-based monitoring method. Measurements were taken using a vibration meter with reference to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 10816-3 standard on machine classification. Vibration data was collected from three main axes (axial, horizontal, and overhang) for four days to obtain the vibration pattern overhang as well as an indication of potential failures. The measurement results showed that at Non-Drive End (NDE) point 1, the average vibration reached 7.15 mm/s, which is included in zone D (danger), so immediate maintenance is required. Meanwhile, the Drive End (DE) 2, DE 3, and NDE 4 points are in zone B, which is still in the safe category, but still requires regular monitoring. In addition, temperature analysis showed an increase in motor and pump temperatures from August 12 to 16, which although still within reasonable limits, could potentially lead to overheating if not anticipated. Based on these findings, it is concluded that pump P100/3 requires immediate maintenance at point NDE 1, while pump P100/1 is still in a safe condition. Continued maintenance and monitoring recommendations are provided to prevent further potential damage and ensure optimal operational sustainability of the refinery

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the impact of physical and social work environments on job satisfaction among seafarers in Indonesian shipping companies, addressing a critical gap in maritime human resource literature. Given the long periods of isolation and high-stress conditions faced by seafarers, understanding workplace dynamics is essential for improving crew retention and operational efficiency. Methodology: A quantitative explanatory survey was conducted with 350 seafarers across different ranks in deck and engine departments of Indonesian-flagged vessels. Stratified random sampling considered variations in work experience, vessel type, and operational route. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with SPSS 26, enabling examination of multiple relationships while controlling for confounding variables. Results: Findings show that both physical (working conditions, safety equipment, living quarters) and social environments (team cohesion, supervisor support, communication) positively influence job satisfaction. Social factors exerted 42% greater influence than physical conditions. Additionally, seafarers with over five years of experience reported 28% higher satisfaction. Open-ended responses underscored the importance of fair conflict resolution and recognition systems. Conclusions: While adequate physical conditions remain essential, investments in the social environment particularly leadership training and communication systems produce stronger effects on satisfaction, challenging industry practices that emphasize physical over social improvements. Limitations: Results are limited to Indonesian seafarers and specific shipping segments, suggesting the need for cross-national and longitudinal studies. Contribution: The study offers evidence-based insights for crew management and advances theoretical understanding of job satisfaction in isolated work environments, with a replicable methodological framework for other maritime contexts.

Abstract

One type of auxiliary machinery on the ship is a refrigerator systemthat is used to store food supplies to keep them in fresh condition and not quickly damaged or rotten. The purpose of this study is to provide an analysis of the maintenance management model on the refrigerator system so that it can function optimally and predict the possibility of existing damage. The method used is mix method research by combining quantitative and qualitative designs to provide an overview of the problems and solutions provided to the refrigerator system. The results show that the Filter Dryer has the highest damage rate (25%) and the lowest MTBF (864 hours). The discharge pressure has increased from the standard provisions of 250, but in reality it rose to 275, so that it has a deviation of +10%. The discharge pressure deviation indicates a potential problem with the compressor. Limited spare parts inventory is often a complaint of the chief engineer in carrying out maintenance of refrigerator system. The impact of this research shows that the existing maintenance program needs to be restructured. This restructuring could include rescheduling maintenance activities, allocating resources more effectively, as well as implementing a risk- or condition-based approach to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji dan mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis Peralatan yang digunakan dalam penanganan keamanan di pelabuhan tanjung emas, mengidentifikasi dan menetapkan langkah-langkah keamanan di pelabuhan tanjung emas dan pentingnya simulasi penerapan ISPS Code di Pelabuhan Tanjung Emas. Pendekatan yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. metode penelitian deskriptif digunakan peneliti dengan maksud untuk menggambarkan proses pencegahan gangguan keamanan dalam penerapan ISPS Code di Pelabuhan semarang. Data primer didapatkan langsung melalui wawancara dengan beberapa responden dan observasi langsung ke pelabuhan. Data sekunder diperoleh dari sumber dokumentasi, referensi jurnal, dan berbagai literatur yang mendukung tujuan dari penelitian ini. Data sekunder berupa identifikasi kewenangan otoritas pelabuhan yang diberikan mandat sebagai koordinator ISPS Code. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan melakukan observasi, wawancara secara mendalam dan studi dokumentasi kepada petugas. Analisa data melalui tiga tahap kegiatan yaitu penyajian, reduksi dan penarikan kesimpulan. Terdapat beberapa peralatan keamanan di pelabuhan antara lain CCTV, kartu identitas, X-ray keamanan, pagar pembatas, dan lampu penerangan. Pelabuhan yang minim fasiltas keamanan dapat memicu aksi kriminalitas di pelabuhan. Perlu dibuat sistem Keamanan pelabuhan secara sederhana mengacu pada tindakan pencegahan gangguan keamanan dan penegakan hukum yang dilakukan untuk melindungi pelabuhan dari terorisme dan aktivitas yang melanggar hukum.

Abstract

cylinder head is a part that is exposed to thermal and mechanical loads which not only affect engine performance parameters. The purpose of this study is to analyze the failure of the cylinder head structure of a 4 stroke diesel engine and find the cause of the failure. In this study, surveys and measurements of the cylinder head were carried out, to find out the appropriate results so that they could determine cracks, wear, and warping of the cylinder head. The results showed that the maximum bend on the side of the cylinder head attached to the cylinder block was 0.07 mm, 0.08 mm, 0.069mm. While the maximum bending on the side of the cylinder head attached to the manifold is 0.15 mm, 0.14 mm, 0.16 mm. At maximum bending on the side of the cylinder head attached to the exhaust manifold, it is necessary to pay attention to how to use the diesel engine correctly and according to operating hours.
