Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study evaluates the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) competency frameworks for librarians in Indonesia, focusing on gender differences. Despite the critical role of these frameworks in addressing digital age challenges, their efficacy in capturing gender-specific nuances in competencies is underexplored. This research surveyed 208 librarians, employing a questionnaire derived from the 2019 Indonesian National Qualifications Framework for Libraries (SKKNI). The survey, distributed via Google Forms, targeted librarians in various library types across Indonesia. Employing accidental random sampling, this research revealed significant disparities in ICT-related competencies across genders. While gender did not majorly influence the demographic characteristics of librarians in the ICT division, notable differences emerged in ICT competency based on gender. These findings highlight the need for gender-sensitive approaches in developing ICT competencies and suggest revisions to current frameworks to address gender-specific needs better, contributing to a deeper understanding of digital literacy and equity in Indonesian librarianship.

Abstract

The widespread use of digital platforms among secondary school students has led to the emergence of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), a social anxiety characterised by feelings of exclusion from enjoyable activities experienced by others. Social media features, such as daily stories and live streams on platforms like Instagram and YouTube, encourage students to follow trends. High levels of FOMO are associated with consumerist behaviour, where students purchase items they do not truly need simply to align with lifestyle trends or popular phenomena. This study aims to determine the correlation between FOMO and consumptive behavior among high school students in West Palu District. A total of 300 students were selected using purposive sampling, and the data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially through classical assumption tests (normality and linearity) and product moment correlation. The results showed that 68.66% of students experienced high FOMO, and 52.33% exhibited high consumptive behavior. Pearson's correlation analysis yielded r = 0.767 with p < 0.05, which is greater than the table r of 0.113, thus rejecting the null hypothesis and accepting the alternative hypothesis. These findings serve as a reference for counselors through classical guidance to explain the influence of social media algorithms and influencers, as well as through group counseling services for students with excessive impulsive tendencies. These services can help students shift from FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) to JOMO (Joy of Missing Out) in order to be wiser in their use of social media and consumption patterns.

Abstract

TikTok has become a popular platform among teenagers as a means of entertainment, self-expression, and social communication. Through its creative features, students can showcase their talents and gain recognition from their peers. However, behind this popularity, the question arises as to whether the use of TikTok can actually boost students’ self-confidence. This study aims to determine the relationship between the use of TikTok social media and the self-confidence of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Palu. A total of 100 students were selected using random sampling techniques. Data were collected using a Likert scale-based questionnaire and analyzed both descriptively and inferentially, employing the Pearson Product Moment correlation test in SPSS version 25. The results show that TikTok usage is relatively high at 93%, while student self-confidence is also in the high category at 68%. The correlation test shows a value of r = 0.082 with sig. = 0.418 (p > 0.05), meaning that there is no significant relationship between TikTok usage and student self-confidence. These findings suggest that student self-confidence is more influenced by factors such as family support, social environment, and personal experience, rather than the intensity of TikTok use. These findings suggest that student self-confidence is more influenced by factors such as family support, social environment, and personal experience, rather than the intensity of TikTok use.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of teacher social support on students’ academic hardiness at SMPN 2 Sindue Tobata. The research employed a descriptive, quantitative approach with saturated sampling, involving all 108 students enrolled in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected using validated Likert-scale questionnaires on teacher social support and academic hardiness, both of which demonstrated good reliability (α = 0.944 and α = 0.780). Data analysis employed descriptive statistics and simple linear regression using SPSS version 27. The findings revealed that 95.4% of students perceived high levels of teacher social support, and 71.3% exhibited very high academic hardiness. Regression results indicated a positive and significant influence of teacher social support on academic hardiness (t = 3.885, p < 0.05), with a regression coefficient of 0.460. These results suggest that increased social support from teachers enhances students’ ability to manage academic stress, remain committed, and view learning challenges as opportunities for growth. The study underscores the importance of strengthening teacher–student relationships to foster resilience and motivation in learning environments.

Abstract

Batik is a work of visual art in the form of traditional clothing, and intangible cultural heritage has become an inseparable part of the daily life of the Indonesian people. One of the motives is the famous Rifa'iyah batik with a pattern inspired by the teachings of Sheikh Ahmad Rifa'i which shows evidence of the beliefs, deeds, and identity of Sheikh Ahmad Rifa'i's followers. In this study, the author aims to discuss Batik Rifa'iyah as a document using conceptual analysis based on document theory such as the concept of meaningful, indexicality, and documents as a broader system to explore the meaning contained in Batik Rifa'iyah styles. This study provides an alternative understanding of batik cloth, especially batik rifa'iyah which is not limited to cloth and visual arts but also provides an in-depth analysis of how to treat colors, shapes, and patterns as documents that refer to the daily life of the Rifa'iyah people. This research also extends the use of document theory in analyzing various information objects in the neodocumentation movement tradition. The results show that batik rifa'iyah has enriched our view of documents, which are symbolic representations, not only expressed through words that have long been known, but lines, colors, and shapes are indeed essential things of a document.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of multicultural group counseling integrated with the Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) approach in enhancing multicultural self-efficacy among Indonesian high school students. Using a mixed-methods method, nine students were selected through purposive sampling based on their willingness to participate, representation of cultural diversity, and absence of serious psychological concerns. They completed an eight-session YPAR-based group counseling intervention. Quantitative data were collected using the Multicultural Self-Efficacy Scale–High School Version (MSES–HS) and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and effect size calculations. The results revealed a substantial increase in multicultural self-efficacy (ΔM = 88.78), representing approximately 49.8% of the total scale range, with all five dimensions—cultural knowledge, cultural values, cultural awareness, communication, and flexibility—showing significant improvement (p < .01; r = .89). Qualitative data derived from reflection journals, focus group discussions, and facilitator observations indicated enhanced intercultural empathy, increased communication confidence, and a shift from passive tolerance to proactive engagement. These findings align with Bandura’s self-efficacy and social learning theories and Corey’s group counseling framework, which emphasize experiential learning, peer modeling, and reflective dialogue. The integration of YPAR into multicultural counseling not only demonstrated statistical effectiveness but also fostered agency, cultural identity development, and a more participatory school climate. This study offers a culturally responsive and scalable intervention model for inclusive education, particularly in multicultural contexts such as Indonesia.
