Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of socioeconomic characteristics on the opportunities for working-age women to work in the informal sector in West Sumatra Province. The approach used is quantitative with a logistic regression method, based on secondary data from the 2020 National Socioeconomic Survey (SUSENAS) published by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The independent variables described include age, marital status, poverty status, education level, and area of residence. The estimation results show that every additional year of working-age women's age significantly increases the opportunity to work in the informal sector. In addition, marital status, coming from a poor household, having an education lower than high school, and living in a rural area also significantly increase the likelihood of women working in the informal sector. These findings emphasize the importance of policy interventions focused on improving access to education, economic empowerment, and equitable regional development to reduce gender inequality in the informal employment sector in West Sumatra. Keywords: informal sector, female labor, socioeconomic characteristics, logistic regression, West Sumatra.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of public infrastructure on economic growth in Indonesia from 2019 to 2023. The approach used is quantitative with a panel data regression method, utilizing secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The public infrastructure variables analyzed include road length, electricity access, internet access, and educational facilities in 34 provinces. The estimation results show that all public infrastructure variables simultaneously have a significant influence on GRDP per capita. Partially, road length and internet access are proven to have a significant influence on GRDP per capita, indicating that both variables play a role in increasing economic efficiency such as facilitating the distribution of goods and services, and encouraging digital economic activities. Meanwhile, the variables of electricity access and educational facilities (classrooms) do not have a significant effect on GRDP per capita. Although the coefficient of determination in this study is relatively low at 7.76%, this finding confirms that road and internet infrastructure are the driving force of national economic growth. The results of this study highlight the importance of policies in equitable infrastructure development between regions as a foundation for driving long-term economic growth.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the determinants of employment opportunities in West Sumatra Province during the period 2017 to 2023. The approach used is quantitative, employing panel data regression methods and utilizing secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The variables analyzed include economic growth, education level, wages, and investment across 19 regencies/cities in West Sumatra Province. The estimation results show that simultaneously, economic growth, education level, wages, and investment collectively influence the increase in employment opportunities. Partially, economic growth has a positive and significant effect on increasing employment opportunities. Conversely, the education level shows a positive but not significant effect, while wages have a negative effect, and investment has a positive but not significant effect on employment opportunities. These findings indicate that economic growth plays a crucial role in generating employment opportunities, whereas the other variables have not yet demonstrated a strong contribution. Therefore, active government involvement is required to enhance employment opportunities, including through labor-intensive sectors that can absorb a large workforce.
