Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian sociolinguistic yang bertujuan untuk (1) menganalisa macam macam bentuk strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh guru matematika dan sains dalam berkomunikasi dengan bahasa Inggris di kegiatan morning sharing di SMP Nasional Plus Jembatan Budaya; (2) mendeskripsikan usaha usaha dari guru matematika dan sains dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berkomunikasi dengan bahasa Inggris; dan (3) mendeskripsikan persepsi dari guru matematika dan sains tentang berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris. Tiga subjek telah dipilih untuk penelitian ini. Subjek pertama dan kedua adalah guru sains yang telah lulus sarjana pendidikan sains dan subjek yang terakhir adalah guru matematika yang telah lulus sarjana pendidikan matematika. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan non-participant observation dan in-depth interview. Data yang diperoleh dianalisa secara deskriptif dan kualitatif. Hasil analisis yang telah didapatkan adalah sebagai berikut: (1) terdapat empat macam strategy komunikasi yang telah digunakan, yaitu: modification device, paralinguistic, L1 – based, dan L2 – based, dari semua itu yang sering muncul adalah modification devise, oleh karena itu bisa disimpulkan guru matematika dan sains ingin menjaga komunikasi agar berjalan lancar; (2) terdapat enam usaha usaha untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berkomunikasi dalam bahasa inggris oleh guru matematika dan sains, yaitu: belajar bahasa Inggris dengan guru local bahasa Inggris, berlatih dengan murid, menonton film dengan subtitle bahasa Inggris, belajar lebih intensif, berlatih terus menerus, belajar bahasa Inggris dengan berbagi atau bertanya kepada guru bahasa Inggris; dan (3) guru matematika dan sains setuju bahwa bahasa Inggris itu penting untuk beberapa alasan, terutama: untuk pekerjaan mereka sebagai guru di sekolah nasional plus, gaji dan perkembangan mereka untuk jadi lebih profesional.Kata Kunci : strategi strategi komunikasi, guru matematika dan sains, sekolah nasional plus, bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa luar negeri This study was a sociolinguistic study which aimed at (1) analyzing the kinds of communication strategies used by mathematics and science teachers to communicate in English in morning sharing at SMP Nasional Plus Jembantan Budaya; (2) describing the mathematics and science teachers’ efforts to improve their ability to communicate in English; and (3) describing the perception of the mathematics and science teachers about communicating in English. The collected data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The result of the analysis found that: (1) there were only four kinds of communication strategies identified in this study, namely: modification device, paralinguistic, L1-based, and L2-based strategies, of these, modification device was the most frequently used by the respondents in order to keep the conversation going smoothly; (2) there were six efforts done by the mathematics and science teachers to improve their English, they are: studying more about English with English local teacher, practicing English with students, watching movies in the English subtitle, studying English intensively, practicing English continuously and habitually, studying English by sharing or asking for English teachers; and (3) both mathematics and science teachers agreed that English is important for some reasons, especially: for their job as teachers in a national plus school, salary and their professional development.keyword : communicative strategies, mathematics and science teachers, national plus school, English as a foreign language

Abstract

Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan materi bahan ajar penunjang Bahasa Inggris untuk siswa Kelas X SMA PGRI 6 Denpasar dalam mengimplementasi Kurikulum 2013. Pada studi ini, model R&D dari Sugiono digunakan sebagai prosedur penelitian. Dimulai dari menganalisis silabus kurikulum 2013. Dari analisis tersebut ditemukan ada Sembilan unit dalam materi bahan ajar penunjang bahasa Inggris. Tiap unit terdapat tema, topik, dan aktifitas-aktifitas. Dalam studi ini data didapat dari rubrik dan kuesioner. Rubrik berdasarkan kriteria materi yang baik menurut Tomlinson dan BSNP. Rubric ini diisi oleh ahli praktisi dan guru. Sedangkan kuesioner diisi oleh guru dan siswa. Dalam studi ini Pretest dan posttest juga dilakukan. Hasil dari pretest adalah 79, 08, sedangkan hasil dari posttest adalah 86,58. Ini menunjukkan bahwa hasil rata-rata posttest lebih tinggi dari pretest. Ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa materi bahan ajar penunjang bahasa Inggris ini efektif digunakan untuk mengajar bahasa Inggris pengimpementasi kurikulum 2013. Kata Kunci : Penunjang, Materi Bahan Ajar Bahasa Inggris, Kurikulum 2013 The aim of this study is to develop the supplementary English teaching materials for the tenth year students of SMA PGRI 6 Denpasar in implementing Curriculum 2013. In this study, the model of Research and Development by Sugiono was employed as the research procedures. It started from the need analysis. It was done by analyzing syllabus of curriculum 2013. From the need analysis, it was found that there were nine units in the supplementary English teaching materials. Each unit had a theme, a unit, and activities. In this study the data were obtained by using rubric and questionnaire taken from the criteria of a good material by Tomlinson and BSNP. The rubric was filled by the expert judgments and teacher, while the questionnaire was filled by teacher and students. In this study the pretest and posttest were also conducted. The result of pretest’s mean score was 79.08, and the posttest was 86.58. The result of posttest’s mean score is higher than pretest’s mean score. It can be concluded that the supplementary English teaching materials is effective to be used for teaching English in implementing curriculum 2013. keyword : Supplementary, English Teaching Materials, Curriculum 2013

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan model pembelajaran kooperatif dengan menerapkan Learning Supervision dalam mengajarkan kemampuan membaca pada kelas 8 di SMP Harapan Nusantara Denpasar. Penelitian ini merupakan peneliatian dan pengembangan (R&D). Penemuan dalam peneliatian ini digunakan untuk merancang sebuah produk dan suatu prosedur, yang mana produk tersebut diuji coba, dievaluasi dan direvisi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian Deskripsi kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) implementasi dari pembelajaran kooperatif di kelas 8 di SMP Harapan Nusantara Denpasar tidak berjalan dengan baik. (2) pembelajaran kooperatif yang perlu dikembangkan adalah pembelajaran kooperatif yang mengimplementasilkan Learning Supervision. (3) Pelaksanaan pembelajaran kooperatif yang mengimplementasikan Learning Supervision menunjukan hasil yang baik dan pembelajaran tersebut sangat efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca kelas 8 di SMP Harapan Nusantara Denpasar. (4) peneliti, guru dan juga para siswa memberikan persetujuan yang sangat kuat tentang keberhasilan dari pelaksanaan pembelajaran kooperatif yang mengimplementasikan Learning Supervision dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berdiskusi dan dalam kemampuan membaca, dan juga membantu guru ketika melaksankan strategi ini.Kata Kunci : Pembelajaran kooperatif, Learning Supervision, Kemampuan membaca. This study attempted to develop the model of cooperative learning which implements Learning Supervision in teaching reading for eighth grade students of SMP Harapan Nusantara Denpasar. The study is called research and development (R&D). The finding of this study was used to design new product and procedures, where it was systematically field tested, evaluated, and refined. This study is descriptive qualitative research. The result of the analysis showed that: (1) The implementation of cooperative learning in eighth year of junior high school in SMP Harapan Nusantara Denpasar was still not implemented well. (2) The cooperative learning which is needed to be developed is the cooperative learning which implements Learning Supervision. (3) The implementation of the cooperative learning which implements Learning Supervision showed positive result and it was effective in improving the eighth year students’ reading comprehension in SMP Harapan Nusantara Denpasar. (4) The researcher, the teacher and also the students gave a strong agreement toward the implementation of cooperative learning which implements Learning Supervision in improving the skills of the students in discussion and also their reading comprehension, and also helping the teacher when implement the strategy.keyword : Cooperative Learning, Learning Supervision, Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kepribadian siswa, cara belajar dan strategi mengajar yang digunakan untuk membantu siswa dalam belajar. Penelitian ini dibuat dalam bentuk deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah 20 orang siswa kelas 5 dan 1 orang guru di Bali Kiddy School dan objek dari penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui kepribadian, cara belajar dan strategi mengajar. Sumber data yang digunakan adalah tulisan anak tentang keluarganya. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan observasi, kuesioner, dan interview. Kusioner berisi 32 pernyataan yang telah divalidasi oleh MBTI dan penguji. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada beberapa kepribadian yang muncul yaitu sensitive dan individual (40%), bersahabat (35%), menerima dan mencari ide baru (25%). Ada lima cara belajar yang muncul yaitu, 40% ISTJ, 5% ENFP, 30% ISFP, 15% ESFP dan 10% ESTP. Sedangkan untuk strategi mengajar menunjukkan extraversion belajar dengan baik dengan cara debat dan sensing dan intuisi menunjukkan hasil yang baik di setiap strategi belajar yang digunakan.Kata Kunci : kepribadian, cara belajar, strategi pembelajaran, grafologi. This study aimed at analyzing students? personality, learning styles and teaching strategies in dealing with learning styles in Bali Kiddy School. This study was designed in form of descriptive qualitative study. The subjects of the study were 20 students of grade 5 and 1 teacher in Bali Kiddy School and the object of this study were personality, learning styles and teaching strategies. The primary source of data in this study was 20 students? handwriting about their family. The data were collected through observation, questionnaire and interview. There were 32 items in the questionnaire and it was validated by MBTI and judges. The result of the study showed that there were several personalities: sensitive feeling and individual learner (40%), friendly (35%), perceiving and look for new ideas (25%). For learning styles, there were five learning styles revealed in this research, they were, 40% ISTJ, 5% ENFP, 30% ISFP, 15% ESFP and 10% ESTP. Meanwhile, for teaching strategies, the result showed that extraversion worked better in debate and intuition and sensing showed their best in every teaching strategy. keyword : Personality, learning styles, teaching strategies, graphology

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out (1) types of speech acts produced by the English native teacher and local teachers in English teaching and learning activities, (2) the differences in terms of speech acts used by the English native teacher and local teachers in teaching and learning English, (3) the English native teacher and local teachers? reasons in using certain types of speech acts in teaching and learning English, (4) the types of politeness strategies produced by the English native teacher and local teachers in teaching and learning English, (5) the differences in terms of politeness strategies used by the English native teacher and local teachers in teaching and learning English, and (6) the English native teacher and local teachers? reasons in using certain types of politeness strategies in teaching and learning English. This study was carried out at Dyatmika Kindergarten as a school with bilingual program. This study used a descriptive qualitative design. Observation, questionnaire and interview were the methods of data collection. The data were analyzed by using Speech Acts Theory by Searle (1999) and Politeness Strategies by Brown and Levinson (1987). The results indicated that both the English native teacher and local teachers mostly used directives in the classroom to get the students to behave in the way that is expected by the teacher. Moreover, the English native teacher mostly used positive politeness in the classroom to build students? self-esteem and enthusiasm in learning. Besides, the local teachers mostly used positive politeness to build students? motivation in learning and get the students involved in classroom discussion. Also it was found that there were several aspects affecting the teachers in using certain speech acts and politeness strategies. keyword : speech acts, politeness strategies

Abstract

ABSTRAK Bahasa Inggris penting untuk dipelajari karena bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa Internasional. Dalam era globalisasi ini, guru bahasa Inggris dibutuhkan untuk membuat siswa mampu berbicara bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa internasional. Tetapi sebagai pendidik guru dihadapkan dengan banyak masalah dalam proses pembelajaran, termasuk perbedaan dalam kemampuan siswa dengan berbagai jenis kelamin. Sehingga sebagai pendidik, guru harus melakukan upaya untuk menemukan metode pembelajaran yang tepat. Metode bernomor Head Together dan Tiga Langkah Wawancara merupakan salah satu metode Cooperative Learning dan bisa menjadi metode pengajaran alternatif untuk guru. Proses strategi Pembelajaran Kooperatif dengan metode ini memiliki karakteristik seperti saling ketergantungan yang positif di kalangan siswa dalam kelompok, tanggung jawab individu, interaksi tatap muka, keterampilan sosial, kerja sama tim dan pengolahan kelompok juga harus diperhitungkan. Jadi selama beberapa dekade terakhir, pendidik telah menerapkan strategi Pembelajaran Kooperatif dalam upaya meningkatkan prestasi belajar siswa, meningkatkan literasi siswa dan kemampuan berbicara dalam menyajikan pendapat mereka. teknik Pembelajaran kooperatif telah dipelajari selama lebih dari 50 tahun dan telah dikaitkan secara positif dengan kinerja siswa. Teknik- teknik dalam Pembelajaran Kooperatif juga telah ditunjukkan untuk meningkatkan motivasi dan keterampilan belajar siswa. Metode pembelajaran kooperatif dapat memiliki dampak positif pada kelas. Kata Kunci : Metode Pembelajaran Kooperatif, Gender, Kompetensi Berbicara ABSTRACT English is important to be learned Because English is the International language. In this era of globalization, teacher of English language is required to make students able to speak English as an international language. But as educators of teachers are faced with many problems in the learning process, including the differences in the abilities of students with different gender. So that as educators, teachers should make efforts to find appropriate learning methods. Methods Numbered Head Together and Three Step Interview is one method of Cooperative Learning and could be alternative teaching methods for teachers. The process of Cooperative Learning strategies with this method has characteristics such as positive interdependence among students in a group, individual responsibility, face-to-face interaction, social skills, teamwork and group processing should also be taken into account. Thus during the past few decades, educators have implemented Cooperative Learning strategies in an effort to improve student achievement, improve student literacy and speaking competence in presenting their opinions. Cooperative Learning techniques have been studied for over 50 years and has been positively linked to the performance of students .Techniques of Cooperative Learning have also been shown to increase student motivation and skills of learning materials. Abstract

Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan materi bahan ajar penunjang Bahasa Inggris untuk siswa Kelas X SMA PGRI 6 Denpasar dalam mengimplementasi Kurikulum 2013. Pada studi ini, model R&D dari Sugiono digunakan sebagai prosedur penelitian. Dimulai dari menganalisis silabus kurikulum 2013. Dari analisis tersebut ditemukan ada Sembilan unit dalam materi bahan ajar penunjang bahasa Inggris. Tiap unit terdapat tema, topik, dan aktifitas-aktifitas. Dalam studi ini data didapat dari rubrik dan kuesioner. Rubrik berdasarkan kriteria materi yang baik menurut Tomlinson dan BSNP. Rubric ini diisi oleh ahli praktisi dan guru. Sedangkan kuesioner diisi oleh guru dan siswa. Dalam studi ini Pretest dan posttest juga dilakukan. Hasil dari pretest adalah 79, 08, sedangkan hasil dari posttest adalah 86,58. Ini menunjukkan bahwa hasil rata-rata posttest lebih tinggi dari pretest. Ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa materi bahan ajar penunjang bahasa Inggris ini efektif digunakan untuk mengajar bahasa Inggris pengimpementasi kurikulum 2013. Kata Kunci : Penunjang, Materi Bahan Ajar Bahasa Inggris, Kurikulum 2013 The aim of this study is to develop the supplementary English teaching materials for the tenth year students of SMA PGRI 6 Denpasar in implementing Curriculum 2013. In this study, the model of Research and Development by Sugiono was employed as the research procedures. It started from the need analysis. It was done by analyzing syllabus of curriculum 2013. From the need analysis, it was found that there were nine units in the supplementary English teaching materials. Each unit had a theme, a unit, and activities. In this study the data were obtained by using rubric and questionnaire taken from the criteria of a good material by Tomlinson and BSNP. The rubric was filled by the expert judgments and teacher, while the questionnaire was filled by teacher and students. In this study the pretest and posttest were also conducted. The result of pretest?s mean score was 79.08, and the posttest was 86.58. The result of posttest?s mean score is higher than pretest?s mean score. It can be concluded that the supplementary English teaching materials is effective to be used for teaching English in implementing curriculum 2013. keyword : Supplementary, English Teaching Materials, Curriculum 2013

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: (1) pengaruh penerapan Pendekatan Ilmiah yang dikombinasikan dengan gambar-gambar terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas dilihat dari jenis teks di SMAN 1 Kuta Utara, (2) perbedaan pengaruh penerapan Pendekatan Ilmiah yang dikombinasikan dengan gambar-gambar terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas dilihat dari jenis teks di SMAN 1 Kuta Utara. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan Post-test-Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI SMAN 1 Kuta Utara semester 2. Terdapat dua kelas yang digunakan sebagai sampel penelitian. Sampel penelitian yang digunakan yaitu melalui random sampling. Kelas XI MIA 6 ditunjuk sebagai kelas eksperimental dengan menggunakan metode pembelajaran Pendekatan IImiah dikombinasikan dengan gambar-gambar. Sementara kelas XI MIA 7 ditunjuk sebagai kelas kontrol yang menggunakan metode pembelajaran Pendekatan Ilmiah saja. Data diperoleh dari tes menulis. Hasil tes tersebut dianalisis dengan menggunakan ANOVA searah. Hasil dari analisis menunjukkan bahwa; (1) terdapat pengaruh penerapan Pendekatan Ilmiah yang dikombinasikan dengan gambar-gambar terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas dilihat dari jenis teks di SMAN 1 Kuta Utara (? < 0.05), (2) tidak ada perbedaan pengaruh penerapan Pendekatan Ilmiah yang dikombinasikan dengan gambar-gambar terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas dilihat dari jenis teks di SMAN 1 Kuta Utara (? > 0.05). Penelitian ini menyarankan kepada guru dan siswa untuk menggunakan gambar-gambar di dalam proses belajar mengajar menulis agar siswa mampu menata ide-ide mereka ke dalam bentuk kalimat dan paragraf. Kata Kunci : gambar-gambar, kemampuan menulis, pendekatan ilmiah. This present research aimed at finding out (1) the effect of Scientific Approach combined with Pictures on the eleventh grade students? writing competency viewed from text genres at SMAN 1 Kuta Utara, (2) the significant differences of the effect of Scientific Approach combined with Pictures on the eleventh grade students? writing competency viewed from text genres at SMAN 1 Kuta Utara. The research was designed with Post-test-Only Control-Group design. The population was the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Kuta Utara in the second semester. There were two classes chosen as the samples. The samples were selected through random sampling. Class XI MIA 6 was the experimental group which was treated by using Scientific Approach combined with Pictures. Meanwhile, class XI MIA 7 was the control group which was treated by using Scientific Approach only. The data were collected by conducting writing competency test. Post-test was conducted to each experimental and control group. The result of those tests was analyzed by using one way ANOVA. The result of the data showed that; (1) there was a significant effect of Scientific Approach combined with Pictures on the eleventh grade students? writing competency viewed from text genres at SMAN 1 Kuta Utara (? < 0.05), (2) there were no significant differences of the effect of Scientific Approach combined with Pictures on the eleventh grade students? writing competency viewed from text genres at SMAN 1 Kuta Utara (? > 0.05). This research suggests teachers and students to use pictures in teaching and learning of writing process in order students to be able to organize their ideas into sentences or paragraphs. keyword : pictures, scientific approach, writing competency.
