Abstract

The sequential extraction biorefinery process can use brown algae as its feedstock, offering a sustainable approach to maximizing the utilization of marine biomass for high-value bioactive compounds. This method enables the recovery of multiple bioactive components from a single raw material, increasing process efficiency and reducing waste. Fucoidan and alginate, two valuable polysaccharides in brown algae, have attracted significant attention due to their diverse applications in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and food industries. This research aims to develop an enzyme-assisted extraction (EAE) process that maximizes the fucoidan yield of Sargassum echinocharpum in the integrated alginate and fucoidan extraction biorefinery process. The effect of the parameter process, including temperature, time, and solvent-to-algae ratio, was evaluated to maximize fucoidan and alginate yield and determine the correct equation model in the first order of the experiment. The study showed that temperature, time, and the ratio of solvents all had a real effect on how quickly the fucoidan and alginate yields increased and then decreased after reaching their highest point. The temperature of 50°C, time of 24 hours, and the solvent-to-algae ratio of 30:1 (v/w) resulted in the highest fucoidan yield of 4.25% and alginate yield of 35.3%,  along with an intrinsic viscosity of 78.91 mL.g-1, molecular weight of 73.58 kDa, and an M/G ratio of 0.35.  Statistical analysis revealed a quadratic relationship, suggesting the presence of an optimal extraction condition. These findings highlight the potential of enzyme-assisted biorefinery techniques for improving fucoidan and alginate extraction. This extraction process demonstrates significant potential for industrial-scale application in the food, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical industries due to its efficiency and sustainability.

Abstract

The climate challenge is an energy challenge. thus, policymakers around the world are trying to accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies. The Global Energy Review said that global CO2 emissions from energy combustion in 2021 reached the highest annual level with an increase of 6% from 2020, The automotive sector is very important to achieve net zero global emissions by 2050 based on the agreement with the world in the Scenario Net Zero Emissions by 2050. in which in 2035 sales of internal combustion engine cars (ICE) will be stopped. In this case, of course, electric vehicles are an alternative to the field of future land transportation that uses batteries as fuel that utilizes renewable energy as a charger for electric vehicles. Electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EVCI) is a key driver of increased electrification mobility shifting away from internal combustion engines given that the specific geographical distribution of a region and its demographics are factors influencing the adoption of electric vehicles. This paper was written to review the state-of-the-art of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), a PV energy source in terms of renewable energy utilization, energy generation, batteries, and charging stations. PV generation is extensively reviewed, and although this research is quite extensive, some gaps need to be investigated for further research on commercial and residential aspects as a means of operating batteries for electric vehicle charging stations based on PV and BESS (Battery Energy Storage System). Regulations on the use of battery electric vehicles as an environmentally friendly means of transportation will grow based on government policies from each country

Abstract

Accurate scheduling of capacity and operating time for electricity generation is intended to be able to determine the start and end periods of electricity generation operations and produce power output that can meet load requirements. In this research, the goal to be achieved is to know the existence of power plants when to start operating and when to stop operations and to minimize operational costs by dividing the value of the power that will be generated at each power plant. Genetic algorithms are applied to thermal power plant data patterns to design a scheduling plan. The process involves combining the six power generating units to be tested into three different samples. It was found that the total power load and total cost for Sample 1 was 78,109 MW and IDR 200,285, 66.26, Sample 2 was 74,497 MW and IDR 149,774,156.41, and Sample 3 was 78,681 MW and IDR 156,297,893, respectively. 08. This shows that the cost of sample 1 compared to sample 2 decreased by 25.22%, then in sample 2 when compared to sample 3 it increased by 4.17%. The data also shows that a higher number of generations results in lower costs. Therefore, genetic algorithms produce better solutions from one generation to the next.

Abstract

The increasing penetration Renewable Energy Source (RES) in electrical power grid, the power system must minimize costs and comply with operational and safety requirements. Optimal power flow (OPF) contributes to this objective by determining the optimal control settings, satisfying system and safety constraints, and enhancing operational efficiency. A systematic review was conducted to assess how OPF studies have been evaluated in the literature. The review analyzed 64 journal articles to identify specific OPF studies from three perspectives: type of RES penetration, objective function, and method of OPF. The results indicate that (a) wind turbines are the most commonly used RES model in OPF studies, (b) cost function is the primary objective that the majority of research has considered, and (c) novel meta-heuristics have often been used in OPF methods under uncertain RES penetration. This systematic review identifies research gaps and topics for further research to study OPF with RES penetration. The findings are expected to benefit researchers in deciding the best OPF method under uncertain RES.
