Abstract

The pursuit of a carbon-neutral campus is a critical goal for universities aiming to contribute to global sustainability efforts. As one of the largest universities in Indonesia, IPB University has stated a vision of sustainability as a long-term goal. This study examines the operational carbon at the IPB Dramaga Campus during 2022 to 2024, contribution of transportation aspect and energy consumption. The results show that the operational campus increases from 9,439 to15,937 tons CO2eq or 69% during 2022-2024. The increase in electricity consumption of 53% significantly contributes to carbon production from 10,557,427 kWh to 16,156,871 kWh in 2022 to 2024, respectively. In addition, the increase in the number of cars and motorbikes entering the university also contributes to the increase in operational carbon, with the daily number of cars and motorbikes entering the university increasing from 755 cars and 2,803 motorbikes in 2022 to 2,950 cars and 12,128 motorbikes in 2024. In conclusion, the management of operational carbon, including the use of renewable energy and green transportation, should be addressed to ensure that the target of the carbon balance of the 2030 IPB University can be realized.

Abstract

Clay shale is an expansive soil owing to its shrinkage and expansion, leading to geotechnical issues, such as loss of strength. This study explored the effectiveness of the Polymer–Calcite Precipitation (PCP) method in improving clay shale's shear strength. This study evaluated the optimum Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) concentration for enhancing the shear strength and identifying the residual shear strength of the treated soil. Various tests were conducted to determine the soil properties and assess soil improvement using direct shear tests. The results indicate that adding PVA increases the cohesion value of saturated clay shale and maintains its residual strength close to its peak strength value, with the optimum concentration of 4% PVA boosting cohesion from 4.47 kPa to 32.83 kPa. In conclusion, the PCP method effectively enhances the shear strength of clay shale and offers a potential solution for soil stabilization.

Abstract

Indonesia menghadapi berbagai tantangan lokal dan global seperti perubahan iklim, urbanisasi, ketidaksetaraan sosial, dan ketahanan pangan. Sebagai respons terhadap komitmen Indonesia terhadap Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs), IPB University berperan aktif dalam mendukung pembangunan berkelanjutan melalui pengabdian masyarakat. Artikel ini mengulas strategi dan praksis IPB dalam melaksanakan pengabdian masyarakat berkelanjutan yang selaras dengan SDGs. Metode yang digunakan meliputi penelitian kualitatif melalui Focus Group Discussions (FGD) dan wawancara mendalam, analisis data sekunder, serta studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan dari tiga program utama, yakni OVOC (One Village One CEO), Dosen Mengabdi, dan KKN Tematik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa IPB memiliki peran penting dalam pemberdayaan komunitas lokal dengan pengetahuan dan teknologi inovatif, meningkatkan kesejahteraan sosial-ekonomi, serta mendukung transformasi sosial. Rencana Strategis IPB 2024-2028 menargetkan integrasi SDGs, inovasi teknologi, peningkatan kolaborasi pemangku kepentingan, dan keberlanjutan jangka panjang program pengabdian masyarakat. Tantangan yang dihadapi mencakup keberlanjutan proyek, integrasi SDGs dalam semua aspek pengabdian, hambatan regulasi, dan keterlibatan pemangku kepentingan. Dengan strategi yang terencana, IPB dapat lebih efektif dalam melaksanakan program yang relevan dan berdampak. Keberhasilan dalam pengabdian masyarakat berkelanjutan juga meningkatkan citra dan reputasi IPB, membuka peluang untuk kolaborasi dan pendanaan. In response to Indonesia's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), IPB University actively supports sustainable development through community service. This article reviews IPB's strategies and practices in implementing sustainable community service that are aligned with the SDGs. The methods include qualitative research, secondary data analysis, and case studies. Data were collected from three main programs: OVOC (One Village One CEO), Dosen Mengabdi, and KKN Tematik. The research findings indicate that IPB is crucial in empowering local communities with innovative knowledge and technology, improving socio-economic well-being, and supporting social transformation. The IPB Strategic Plan for 2024-2028 aims to integrate SDGs, technological innovation, enhanced stakeholder collaboration, and the long-term sustainability of community service programs. Challenges faced include project sustainability, integration of SDGs in all aspects of service, regulatory barriers, and stakeholder engagement. Success in sustaining community service will enhance IPB's image and reputation, opening up opportunities for collaboration and funding.

Abstract

Infiltration causes a decrease in soil shear strength parameters. Decrease in soil shear strength parameters can cause landslides. Landslides often occur in Bogor Regency, one of the landslide locations is Puncak, Bogor. Landslides in Puncak, Bogor on 05 February 2018 at 09.20 WIB must have a safety factor 1.07. Changes in safety factors due to rainfall are observed from 03 February 2018 at 05.00 WIB until 05 February 2018 at 09.20 WIB. This research includes testing soil samples, pore water pressure analysis and slope stability analysis. The software used for this analysis is GeoStudio. The analysis results are the changes in safety factor due to rainfall. The safety factor on 03 February 2018 at 05.00 WIB is 1.602. Safety factor until 05 February 2018 at 03.40 WIB are still above 1.25. So, the slopes are still safe. The decline in safety factor continued until 1.070 due to a decrease in cohesion on 05 February 2018 at 09.20 WIB with cohesion on SW-SM soil and SM soil at 4.01 kPa and 9.18 kPa. So, the duration needed to change a safe slope to landslide is only 5 hours 40 minutes. This can occur because of the intensity of the rain on 05 February 2018 at 07.00 WIB and 08.00 WIB are 34.1 mm/hour and 34.9 mm/hour. Key words: cohesion, landslides, rainfall, safety factor

Abstract

Urban road network typically consists of many intersections which commonly lead to traffic problems. In relatively low traffic, a simple priority intersection will be sufficient and lead no traffic problem without necessarily implement traffic lights, roundabout or others. In an urban area where traffic demands are high, intersections need to be treated with an accurate traffic engineering approach. There are many different approaches to reduce the traffic problem in intersection including traffic light, roundabout, or interchange. Cimahpar Raya street and Indobaso intersections are urban areas in Bogor city with the high demand for transportation and often having a congestion problem in peak hour. The Office of Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) of Bogor city plans to develop and change the Indobaso intersection to be a roundabout, while also increasing the lane width of the approaching roads. This study was conducted to assess the performance changes of the Indobaso intersection improvement by developing a traffic model of the intersection. The planned roundabout and lane width improvement significantly reduce the traffic delays by 90,07%, reduce travel time by 51,76%, improve average speed by 83,77%, and reduce the traffic density by 88,54% compared to the current condition of the intersection which lacks required lane road width and maneuver area.Key words: urban road, intersection, traffic model

Abstract

Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) claimed the landslide incident on 5 May 2015 in Pangalengan District caused gas pipelines owned by PT. Geothermal Star Energy exploded, 9 people died, 154 displaced and 10 houses buried. Based on the facts, it is necessary to make an effort to reduce the risk of landslides by utilizing satellite imagery. The purpose of this study was to identify potential landslides on the Pangalengan highway and make recommendations mitigation actions for the local government. The method used was using 2 estimation system models made by the Directorate of Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation in 2004 and 2005. The result of the DVMBG 2004 showed the very high classification had a percentage of 97.24% and the DVMBG 2005 result showed the high classification reached 53.26% and the very high classification reached 53.26%. The potential for landslides on the Pangalengan road is 98.37%. Recommended mitigation actions were cutting slopes or making soil retaining walls or drainage channel planning.

Abstract

Beton sebagai bahan konstruksi terus meningkat penggunaannya karena kuat tekannya yang tinggi dan mudah dalam pengerjaannya. Pengelolaan sampah plastik menjadi persoalan karena plastik sulit untuk diuraikan secara alami. Subtitusi plastik saja tidak dapat dilakukan pada beton, sehingga diperlukan tambahan lain untuk mempertahankan kekuatan beton. Soybean crude urease calcite precipitation (SCU-CP) dijadikan sebagai alternatif pemecahan masalah dengan menggunakan kedelai sebagai pengganti enzim urease yang dapat meningkatkan kekuatan tanah. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode SCU-CP untuk menutupi rongga-rongga kecil antara plastik dan agregat serta memperkuat ikatannya dengan pembentukan kalsit. Oleh karena itu diperlukan evaluasi pengaruh subtitusi plastik serta penambahan larutan kalsit terhadap kuat tekan dan tegangan-regangan beton. Sampel beton direncanakan memiliki kuat tekan 20,75 MPa dengan mutu K-250. Subtitusi cacahan plastik highdensity polyethylene (HDPE) menurunkan kuat tekan beton 5,5% dan 8,2% pada subtitusi 1% dan 5%. Semakin banyak agregat halus yang disubtitusi semakin menurun kuat tekan beton plastik. Subtitusi plastik menyebabkan tegangan menurun dan beton menjadi lebih lentur. Penambahan kalsit pada beton plastik dapat meningkatkan kuat tekan beton hingga 44%. Kalsit dapat mengisi rongga-rongga kecil pada beton plastik, semakin banyak larutan kalsit yang ditambahkan pada beton artinya banyak endapan kalsit yang terbentuk antara plastik dan beton. Penambahan kalsit meningkatkan tegangan pada regangan yang sama. Hal ini ditunjukkan dari kurva yang semakin tegak yang artinya modulus elastisitas meningkat dan mutu beton semakin baik.

Abstract

Kedelai merupakan alternatif penggunaan enzim urease murni komersial dalam metode calcite precipitation. Ukuran butiran tepung kedelai merupakan salah satu faktor penting karena berpengaruh terhadap jumlah material yang tidak terlarut dan selanjutnya terhadap reaksi pembentukan kalsit. Tepung kedelai yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini telah diayak dengan saringan No. 300 (50 μm), No. 150 (100 μm), dan No. 75 (200 μm) dan bagian yang tertahan di setiap saringan digunakan dalam penelitian. Larutan tepung kedelai dengan konsentrasi sebanyak 20 g/L digunakan dan disaring melalui saringan No. 400 (40 μm), untuk mendapatkan ekstrak. Pasir Bangka digunakan sebagai sampel tanah pasir dan memiliki koefisien keseragaman sebesar 1.53. Evaluasi kemudian dilakukan dengan mengggunakan tiga parameter yaitu pengendapan kalsit, laju hidrolisis urea, dan evaluasi calcite content menggunakan asam klorida. Berdasarkan uji pengendapan kalsit dengan menggunakan tabung, semakin kecil ukuran biji kedelai, semakin banyak bahan tak terlarut yang dihasilkan. Rasio presipitasi kalsit dan massa kalsit yang diendapkan optimum tercapai pada ukuran butiran kedelai 100 μm. Laju hidrolisis tertinggi terjadi pada ukuran butiran kedelai 50 μm pada 752 U/g. Persentase kalsit tertinggi di dalam sampel terbentuk pada sampel dengan ukuran butiran kedelai 50 μm dengan persentase massa kalsit sebesar 0.60% atau setara dengan 43.81 kPa. Berdasarkan parameter yang dievaluasi, tepung kedelai dengan ukuran 50 μm memiliki hasil terbaik dan penurunan ukuran butiran tepung kedelai sejalan dengan peningkatan kekuatan tanah pasir.

Abstract

Tanah pasir merupakan salah satu jenis tanah yang memiliki sifat mekanik yang baik. Namun, tanah pasir dapat menjadi mimpi buruk bila dalam kondisi jenuh serta terbebani secara siklik terus-menerus. Kondisi seperti ini dapat memicu terjadinya potensi likuefaksi. Upaya penambahan bahan aditif sebagai upaya perbaikan tanah banyak dilakukan untuk meminimalkan dampak dari potensi likuefaksi tersebut. Penelitian ini melakukan upaya peningkatan kuat geser pasir pantai dengan menambahkan CaCO3 Teknis sebagai upaya perbaikan dan stabilisasi tanah. Pasir pantai yang digunakan merupakan pasir dengan gradasi buruk yang dapat dibuktikan dari nilai Koefisien Derajat Keseragaman (Cc) sebesar 0,90 dan nilai Koefisien Kelengkungan (Cu) sebesar 4,00. Selain itu, dilakukan juga pengujian sifat fisis lain berupa pemeriksaan kadar air, pemeriksaan berat isi kering, pemeriksaan berat isi basah, pemeriksaan berat jenis butir, pemeriksaan angka pori serta pemeriksaan porositas. Sampel diberi perlakuan berupa penambahan CaCO3 dengan dosis sebanyak 10% dan 20%. Hasil pengujian laboratorium yang telah dilakukan menunjukkan peningkatan nilai parameter kuat geser tanah yang disajikan dalam bentuk model persamaan linear serta memperlihatkan perubahan nilai parameter kuat geser pasir berupa sudut geser dalam dan kohesi secara berturut-turut dengan nilai sebesar 25,82% dan 25,00% untuk sampel dengan dosis CaCO3 sebesar 10% serta 54,43% dan 250,00% untuk sampel dengan dosis CaCO3 sebesar 20%.

Abstract

Reinforced concrete is widely used in construction implementation in Indonesia. The use of reinforcing steel as a structural material has the potential to experience corrosion. A Schiff base is one of the compounds considered a potential corrosion inhibitor. Green mussel (Perna viridis) contains chitosan which can produce chitosan Schiff base. This study aimed to analyze chitosan, Schiff base, optimum inhibitor concentration, and morphological structure. This research consisted of extraction and acylation transformation stages, corrosion rate measurement, and SEM testing. This research resulted in the degree of deacetylation of chitosan from the FT-IR spectra of 53.71%. Chitosan Schiff base from green mussel shells was successfully synthesized as much as 188.41 g. The optimum corrosion rate is found at the inhibitor concentration of 1500 ppm, with the highest efficiency level of 91.84%. The results of SEM testing on treated steel samples yielded fewer corrosion products in the form of uniform corrosion and pitting corrosion than untreated steel samples. This result shows that the chitosan Schiff base inhibitor from the optimum concentration of green mussel shells effectively inhibits the corrosion rate.
