Abstract

Pagar Alam Robusta coffee contributes significantly to the regional economy. Its cultivation and processing systems pose environmental challenges. This study compares the environmental performance of two cultivation methods (conventional-K1 and non-pesticide-K2) and six processing methods (natural origin-A1, broken skin origin-A2, natural aerobic-N1, natural anaerobic-N2, honey aerobic-H1, and honey anaerobic-H2). A cradle-to-gate Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was conducted using a functional unit of 100 kg of green coffee beans, covering four impact categories: global warming potential (GWP), ozone depletion potential (ODP), acidification potential (AP), and eutrophication potential (EP). In the cultivation subsystem, K1 produced emissions of 85.70–117.00 kg CO₂-eq (GWP), 3.53×10-6–4.80×10-6 kg CFC-11-eq (ODP), 0.37–0.50 kg SO₂-eq (AP), and 0.16–0.22 kg PO₄-eq (EP), while K2 produced much lower emissions: 23.00–31.30 kg CO₂-eq (GWP), 2.22×10-7–3.03×10-7 kg CFC-11-eq (ODP), 0.09–0.13 kg SO₂-eq (AP), and 0.03–0.04 kg PO₄-eq (EP). In the processing subsystem, H2 had the highest emissions: 14.77 kg CO₂-eq (GWP), 6.48 kg CFC-11-eq (ODP), 0.04 kg SO₂-eq (AP), and 0.02 kg PO₄-eq (EP), while A1 had the lowest emissions: 5.23 kg CO₂-eq (GWP), 3.87 kg CFC-11-eq (ODP), 0.01 kg SO₂-eq (AP), and 0.001 kg PO₄-eq (EP). Implementing an improvement scenario based on non-pesticide cultivation (K2) could reduce emissions by approximately 65–93% across all impact categories. These findings demonstrate that adopting pesticide-free cultivation combined with simpler processing methods can significantly reduce the environmental footprint of Robusta coffee production in Pagar Alam and support more sustainable coffee management practices.

Abstract

Biopelet adalah bahan bakar alternatif terbarukan yang dibuat dari biomassa pertanian. Jerami padi merupakan biomassa pertanian yang berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku biopelet, namun memiliki nilai kalor yang relatif rendah. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan kombinasi dengan biomassa lain yang memiliki nilai kalor yang lebih tinggi, seperti serbuk gergaji kayu sengon, untuk meningkatkan kualitas dan energi biopelet yang dihasilkan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh formulasi bahan baku biomassa untuk menghasilkan biopelet yang baik dari campuran jerami padi dan serbuk gergaji kayu sengon. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian adalah metode pengempaan pada suhu 200 oC dengan ukuran sampel 40 mesh. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap Faktorial dengan dua faktor yaitu komposisi (% bobot) campuran bahan baku jerami:serbuk gergaji kayu sengon, yaitu jerami padi saja (A), 25:75 (AB1), 50:50 (AB2), 75:25 (AB3), dan serbuk gergaji kayu sengon saja (B). Faktor kedua adalah variasi waktu pengempaan (10, 15, dan 20 menit). Kualitas biopelet akan diuji sesuai persyaratan SNI 8675:2018. Penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa biopelet terbaik dihasilkan oleh campuran jerami:serbuk gergaji kayu sengon 25:75 (AB1) dengan waktu pengempaan 20 menit. Biopelet yang dihasilkan memiliki karakteristik densitas 1.00 g/cm3, kadar air 0.09%, kadar abu 5.5%, nilai kalor 23.3 MJ/kg, dengan laju konsumsi pembakaran biopelet 0.52 g/detik.

Abstract

Trimethylolpropane esters were synthesized by transesterification of calophyllum methyl esters and trimethylolpropane using a calcium oxide as the catalyst. The results showed that the optimal reaction conditions (temperature: 130 0C, reaction time: 5 h, reactant molar ratio: 3.9:1, catalyst amount 3%w/w, and formed  trimethylolpropane ester of 79.0% were obtained. The basic physicochemical properties of the trimethylolpropane esters were the following : kinematic viscosities of 56.40 cSt and 8.8 cSt at 40 0C and 100 0C,  viscosity index 193, flash point 218 0C and pour point -3 0C. So Methyl esters of fatty acids of would callophylum  methyl ester is good raw material for the synthesis of lubricating oils.

Abstract

This study aims to develop strategic recommendations for sustainable agro-industrial Small and Medium Industries (SMIs) in North Jakarta based on process performance analysis by integrating Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Eisenhower Matrix, and Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM). A mixed-methods approach was employed, including field observations, in-depth interviews, literature review, and expert judgment to capture the actual conditions of agro-industrial SMIs comprehensively. Value Stream Mapping (VSM) analysis identifies the presence of non-value-added activities that contribute to production inefficiencies, indicating that the development of agro-industrial SMIs in North Jakarta remains at a basic level and highlighting the need to enhance the participation of SMI actors in development programs. The Eisenhower Matrix further classifies development factors into four strategic quadrants and generates seven alternative development strategies based on urgency and importance. Furthermore, ISM analysis reveals that strengthening the capacity of SMI facilitators is the key driving strategy that supports business feasibility and production standardization, digital and institutional ecosystem strengthening, and human resource development. These strategies subsequently enable technology integration and integrated environmental management of production, ultimately leading to the development of superior products based on innovation and market collaboration as the long-term strategic objective for sustainable SMI development in North Jakarta.
