Abstract

This study explores the impact of climate change and technology on food supply and demand, which complements the limits of previous findings. The main foundations are Hessian food production and Marshallian demand theories. It aims to analyze the factors influencing food availability and the response of each variable, as well as simulate the effect of climate change and technology. Secondary data from the Food Security and the Central Statistics Agency of 10 provinces in Sumatra will be used between the periods of 2010 to 2019. Furthermore, this study uses the simultaneous method of 8 structural and 2 identity equations. The influencing variables of production include price, expected food pattern of grains and tubers, CPO price, temperature, rainfall, and irrigation network area. Meanwhile, consumption is influenced by price, poverty, food inflation, population, per capita income, and farmers’ exchange rate. The increase in temperature and rainfall reduces the production and consumption of rice, corn, cassava, and sweet potatoes. Meanwhile, technology development will increase food production and consumption. The availability is an essential dimension of food security that should be prioritized. Likewise, climate change and technology development need to be anticipated to mitigate these impacts.

Abstract

The impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the host country’s economic growth is often discussed without considering the abundance of natural resources in the host country. The present study examines the relationship between FDI and economic growth while considering the presence of natural resources. Using panel data regression with data from 124 countries, the study finds that FDI inflows are increasing significantly, with pronounced differences between countries based on their per capita income levels. The results of the panel data regression analysis show that both FDI and natural resources positively affect economic growth. However, an increase in natural resources reduces the overall impact of FDI on economic growth. This result suggests that countries should attract FDI in sectors outside of natural resources to maximize the positive effects of FDI on economic growth.JEL Classification: F43, O4, P28, P45, Q0How to Cite:Fajrian, M. Abstract

Central Kalimantan Province has potential in the agricultural sector. The contribution of the agricultural sector, particularly from plantations, makes a significant contribution to the economy of the Central Kalimantan region. Despite having an abundant supply of raw materials, the processing industry's ability to increase the added value of agricultural and plantation commodities is still not optimal due to limited processing facilities. Therefore, to accurately determine the contribution of the industrial sector, especially the agro industry to the regional economy in Central Kalimantan, an analysis can be carried out using the 2016 input-output table. The results of the study show that two sub-sectors of the agro industry, namely the food and beverage the chemical, pharmaceutical and traditional medicine industries are the leading industrial sectors in Central Kalimantan. This explains that the agro-industrial sector can become a leading sector because it is able to improve the regional economy and develop other sectors.

Abstract

Abstract

The implication of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 is free mobilization of goods, services, labours, and capital among the member countries. This encourages Indonesia to strengthen its commitments on the construction service sector. This study aims to map Indonesia's commitments in the construction service sector under the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Services (AFAS) with Hoekman Index and investigates the impacts on the macroeconomic and sector performances. The GTAP model analysis shows that Indonesia does not gain from the service liberalization, there is only slight increase of macroeconomic and sector performance. A 50% or full liberalization cause few increase on the real GDP. Positive impact of liberalization is only seen in the construction sector itself.

Abstract

The Ukraine-Soviet Union war and the Covid-19 pandemic made the world economy experience complex problems. Indonesia was also affected, especially the decline in exports, so it needed to find new trading partners. This study aims to determine the potential diversification of Indonesia's export market to non-traditional countries, namely Turkey, Brazil, Georgia and the Russian Federation as well as 10 economic commodities. The data used in this study is secondary data. This data is obtained through the GTAP database (Global Trade Analysis Project) version 10. In this GTAP database there are input - output data from 121 countries representing 98% of world GDP. The results of this study are Brazil and Turkey can become Indonesia's trading partners, while Georgia and the Russian Federation have little opportunity to establish trade cooperation with Indonesia

Abstract

Abstract

CARICOM is an area that has trade potential to be explored by Indonesia. However, for Indonesia, this region has various challenges to explore considering that the countries that are members of it are non-traditional countries. For this reason, this study aims to analyze the competitiveness, competitor countries and determinants of exports of Indonesia's superior products to the CARICOM region. The analysis methods used are market share, RCA, EPD, X-Model and panel data regression. The results showed that ten commodities identified as Indonesia's leading products in the CARICOM region faced lost opportunity market positions on average and CARICOM countries were included in the category as potential market developments. The United States, European Union, Brazil, China, South Korea, Japan, Dominica Republic, Colombia and Trinidad and Tobago and Singapore were identified as Indonesia's competitors in CARICOM. In terms of export determinants, real GDP and investment positive and significant effect on the export of Indonesia's superior products to CARICOM. Meanwhile, inflation and the real exchange rate together have a significant and negative effect in contrast to the economic distance which has a negative but insignificant effect on the volume of Indonesia's exports to the CARICOM region.

Abstract

Tourism is a potential sector in the country's development strategy. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesian tourist visits have remained higher and more stable than foreign tourists. Domestic tourism is critical in defining an inward-looking national economic recovery strategy. However, few tourism studies still exist on the relationship between domestic tourism and regional economies. This study analyses the relationship between domestic tourism and Indonesia's regional economic growth and the determinants of Indonesian tourism demand in terms of domestic tourist expenditure. The data types used are secondary data provided by BPS, Kemenparekraf, Kemenkeu and Bank Indonesia. Analytical methods are the Granger causality test, fixed effect model and panel data regression analysis. The results show a one-way relationship between Indonesia's total tourism expenditure and regional economic growth. Based on research, the government's strategic priority is to increase domestic tourism expenditures by increasing per capita income, increasing tourist attraction and providing ATMs. ATMs facilitate the circulation of cash, influencing the increase in tourism expenditures. Stabilization of the consumer price index in tourist destinations should be maintained as it can negatively impact them.

Abstract

Global value chains (GVC) were a phenomenon of production of goods or services that involved various countries acting as providers of raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods. There was a GVC concept with a more specific scope, namely the Regional Value Chain (RVC). This concept was carried out by countries that had regional cooperation. ASEAN countries and several partner countries had a new regional cooperation agreement, namely the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The presence of the RCEP agreement opened opportunities for Indonesia to contribute. Various production chains could be created. Longer production chains allowed the distribution of benefits from GVC to be uneven in each country. This needed to be watched out for, so it was necessary to conduct research on whether Indonesia's participation in the agricultural RVC of the RCEP region provided benefits for Indonesia or not. The type of data used in this research was secondary data in the form of cross-section data, consisting of the Inter-Country Input Output (ICIO) table sourced from the OECD, which was released in 2021. This research used input-output table methods and backward linkage and forward linkage methods of a country's sector (Indonesia and RCEP partners) so that its position in the RCEP production chain and the world could be known. The result was that Indonesia acted as a provider of raw materials in 21 types of RCEP industries. RCEP provided value added to Indonesian agriculture. Keywords: global value chain (gvc), inter-county input output table (ICIO), regional value chain (rvc), regional comprehensive economic partnership (rcep)
