Abstract

Indonesia’s economic development is marked by changes in the structure of the economy and employment from those originally based on agriculture to non-agriculture, which is called structural transformation. This study discusses the turning point phenomenon in employment which is one of the important theses in the dualistic economic development analysis framework formulated by Lewis (1954). Related to changes in the sectoral employment structure and the achievement of turning points, this study finds that Indonesia has not yet entered a turning point stage. The achievement of Lewis’s turning point in Indonesia tends to be temporary. Viewed from the decomposition of sectoral growth, the contribution of the non-agricultural sector to economic growth is two times greater than that of the agricultural sector. This shows that economic growth in Indonesia is strongly driven by the role of the non-agricultural sector. This study also found that layers of labor from the agricultural to non-agricultural sectors had a positive impact on economic growth in Indonesia.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's motor vehicle exporters, ranking 14th globally, 11th in the G20, and 2nd in ASEAN. The increasing emissions from the transportation sector have prompted the G20 countries to implement a low-emission policy through an electric vehicle policy. Concerns arose over the decline in Indonesia's exports of oil-fueled motor vehicles to G20 member countries. This study aims to analyze differences in the performance of Indonesia's motor vehicle exports when the EVP policy was implemented in 11 G20 member countries in 2012-2021. RCA, EPD, X-Model, and panel data regression are the research methods used. Results of RCA analysis show that Indonesia has comparative competitiveness with Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. Regarding EPD and X-Model, Indonesian motor vehicle products are in a falling star position with less potential market development. Panel data regression analysis shows that the variable GDP per capita of the destination country, Indonesia's dummy EVP, destination country's dummy EVP is positive and significant. Meanwhile, the economic distance variable has a negative and significant effect, but the real exchange rate, import tariffs, and dummy Covid-19 variables are not significant. Policy recommendations from analysis findings in the form of market intelligence, production incentives, purchase incentives, to the implementation of the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) scheme.

Abstract

Abstract

China and Indonesia are countries with large populations and contributors to world carbon dioxide emissions. One step to reduce emissions is through the adoption of electric vehicle policies. The penetration rate of electric vehicles in China and Indonesia can differ due to the policy approach used. In this study, the analysis method is a bilateral comparative study with a literature review. Based on the results of the analysis, China has adopted an electric vehicle policy since 2001 accompanied by sustainable programs and incentives. Meanwhile, Indonesia has only focused on electric vehicles, especially battery-based electric motor vehicles since 2019. Through the market approach (demand and supply) and infrastructure approach, different policy conditions in China and Indonesia are obtained, and can be used as a benchmark for decision-making for the Indonesian government. The policy implications of the analysis are increasing monetary and non-monetary incentives for producers and consumers, increasing local government participation, and clarifying the steps to execute Indonesia's electric vehicle roadmap.

Abstract

Abstract

West Pasaman is a regency in Indonesia that has a high risk of flooding. Flood risk reduction through enhancing household capacity must be pursued because individuals or households are the first to be directly affected by floods. This research aims to determine the household capacity level in flood risk reduction and the associated factors. Data about household knowledge, emergency preparedness, access information, mitigation measures, livelihood diversification, and social networks is collected by a survey of the households in Nagari Aia Gadang Barat. The result shows that the capacity of households in Nagari Aia Gadang varied to low, medium, and high levels, with the most significant proportion being the medium level, namely 65%. Household capacity is positively associated with the head household's education level and total income.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the determinants and convergence of the Fishers Term of Trade (FiTT) and analyze government policies supporting increasing FiTT in Indonesia. The analysis used is the global moran index, dynamic spatial panel data regression, and descriptive analysis. The analysis results show spatial dependencies of FiTT with a clustered pattern. Provinces in quadrants III and IV in quadrant analysis indicate the need to evaluate government assistance policies. The determinants of FiTT in the short and long term are the CPI, government assistance, production value, and labor in the capture fisheries sub-sector. There is a convergence of provincial FiTT with a relatively high speed of 152 percent per year, assuming no significant external shocks exist. The time required to close half of the FiTT is 0,46 years. Policies can be carried out by encouraging programs to increase production, exports, and consumption of capture fisheries. They were maximizing the functions of the Central Information Control Team (CICT) and Local Information Control Team (LICT) in controlling the inflation of consumer goods in rural areas and maintaining the policy of subsidized fuel for small-scale fisheries. Maintain fish price stability at the fisherman's level by strengthening the National Fish Logistic System (NFLS), accelerating the implementation of the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) for fishery commodities, and improving infrastructure that supports cold storage development, especially electricity availability. In addition, expanding the scope of the business area of PT Perikanan Indonesia and increasing its role as a logistics agency for fisheries. Keywords: convergence, fishermen, FiTT, spatial, welfare

Abstract

Garlic is one of the commodities developed in the country as an effort to achieve self-sufficiency and reduce imports. This study aims to identify the existing business models in the garlic production centers and develop garlic ideal business models using Business Model Canvas (BMC) approach. The others purpose is to identify the critical points of existing business models and formulate policy recommendations for developing garlic business models to support production. The study used primary and secondary data. The primary data was obtained from a survey conducted in 2021 at garlic production centers with purposive sampling methods such as Karanganyar Regency, Boyolali Regency, and Magelang Regency. The analysis shows that key partner elements, customer segments, and channels are the critical point. Thus, to develop the garlic business model, it is necessary to carry out synergy and collaboration of stakeholders (key partners) to overcome critical activities, essential resources, customer segments, partnerships, channels, and value co-creation. As a result, it will improve garlic farmers' cost structure and revenue stream, so garlic production can increase to meet domestic needs. Abstract

Indonesia is the world's fourth most populous country, trailing only China, India, and the United States, with a population of 276,361,788 people. Efforts to fulfill the demand for rice as a staple food are concerning. The policies established by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Trade do not match. The Ministry of Agriculture carries out a pro-rice production policy. The Ministry of Trade carries out a pro-rice import policy. This study included both descriptive and quantitative analysis. The type of data used in this research is annual time series secondary data with a research period from 1980 to 2020. The model used in this study was developed using the Two Stage Least Squares (2SLS) approach. The results showed that the Ministry of Agriculture's goal was to boost output, but this might lead to overstock and consequently reduce rice prices, according to the Ministry of Trade. The Ministry of Trade's rice import policy has always been withheld by the Ministry of Agriculture because, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, imports will lower the rice price, reducing farmers' income. This shows that production and trade policies are not well-suited. Production policies, with an average annual increase of 2%, outperform trade policies, with an average annual increase of 141%.
