Abstract

Indonesian tea products have become an export-oriented commodity. However, Indonesian tea products trade performance, particularly the exports, has shown a persistent decline for the last decade (2012–2021). Therefore, this study aims to analyse the competitiveness of Indonesia tea products export as well as map the export destinations for Indonesia tea products. This study employs secondary data regarding tea product export value from UN Comtrade during the 2012–2021 period with analysis using revealed comparative advantage (RCA), export product dynamic (EPD), and X-model potential export product. The RCA results suggest that Indonesian tea products exhibit an overall strong comparative advantage in the international market, albeit still lagging behind India. Additionally, Indonesia also exhibits a strong comparative advantage in all tea products, except tea extract and preparation products. The EPD results show that Indonesia possesses a competitive advantage in packaged black tea, bulk green tea, also tea extract and preparation products. The export destination mapping reveals the 28 potential destinations serving as the focus for Indonesian tea export expansion. These potential destinations are dominated by the non-traditional. Keywords: tea products export, EPD, potential destinations, RCA, X-model potential export product

Abstract

The impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the host country’s economic growth is often discussed without considering the abundance of natural resources in the host country. The present study examines the relationship between FDI and economic growth while considering the presence of natural resources. Using panel data regression with data from 124 countries, the study finds that FDI inflows are increasing significantly, with pronounced differences between countries based on their per capita income levels. The results of the panel data regression analysis show that both FDI and natural resources positively affect economic growth. However, an increase in natural resources reduces the overall impact of FDI on economic growth. This result suggests that countries should attract FDI in sectors outside of natural resources to maximize the positive effects of FDI on economic growth.JEL Classification: F43, O4, P28, P45, Q0How to Cite:Fajrian, M. Abstract

Central Kalimantan Province has potential in the agricultural sector. The contribution of the agricultural sector, particularly from plantations, makes a significant contribution to the economy of the Central Kalimantan region. Despite having an abundant supply of raw materials, the processing industry's ability to increase the added value of agricultural and plantation commodities is still not optimal due to limited processing facilities. Therefore, to accurately determine the contribution of the industrial sector, especially the agro industry to the regional economy in Central Kalimantan, an analysis can be carried out using the 2016 input-output table. The results of the study show that two sub-sectors of the agro industry, namely the food and beverage the chemical, pharmaceutical and traditional medicine industries are the leading industrial sectors in Central Kalimantan. This explains that the agro-industrial sector can become a leading sector because it is able to improve the regional economy and develop other sectors.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The decline in Indonesian tea products export performance does not correspond to the Government initiatives to reduce barriers through trade agreements. This research aims to analyse the export performance and the role of trade agreements towards Indonesian tea products export. This study employs panel data regression with a 15-year time series (2007-2021) and a cross-section of 40 destination countries. The data are analysed using a modified export approach gravity model with Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimation. The research results show that the Indonesian tea products export destinations are dominated by Asia (19 countries) and Europe (12 countries). The regression results suggest that the implementation of trade agreements with Asian and European region countries has not effectively increased Indonesian tea products export. On the other hand, the implementation of trade agreements with other region countries, i.e., Australia and New Zealand, has successfully promoted export towards Indonesian tea products. Those can be attributed to trade agreements underutilization and trade barriers imposed by the trade agreement members. Hence, inward and outward-looking strategies are necessary to promote the export creation effect of implemented trade agreements towards Indonesian tea product exports.
