Abstract

Inclusive education aims to provide equal learning access for all students, including those with special needs such as dyslexia. This study explores the characteristics of students at risk of dyslexia in Vocational High Schools (SMK) and the learning strategies that can be implemented to improve their reading skills. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data was collected from 11 Indonesian language teachers at public vocational schools in Pekanbaru through questionnaires and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The findings indicate that dyslexic students face difficulties in letter recognition, reading fluency, and text comprehension, which impact their self-confidence and motivation to learn. The learning strategies currently applied in schools have not been fully adapted to the needs of dyslexic students, relying heavily on text-based methods without incorporating multisensory approaches or adaptive technology. Furthermore, the assessment methods still follow conventional formats, making it difficult for dyslexic students to demonstrate their understanding optimally. Therefore, more adaptive learning approaches are needed, such as multisensory methods, explicit phonics instruction, and the integration of assistive technology to enhance the literacy skills of dyslexic students. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for developing more inclusive educational policies and improving teachers' competencies in supporting students with special needs in vocational school environments.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of Indonesian language teaching modules specifically designed for students with dyslexia in inclusive schools. The study aims to design an effective teaching module that aligns with the learning characteristics of dyslexic students. It employs the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. However, this research was limited to the first three stages analysis, design, and development. The analysis stage involved identifying the needs and challenges faced by dyslexic students through interviews and observations. The design stage focused on creating the module based on analysis results and a review of effective learning methods. In the development stage, learning content was created using a multisensory approach and educational technology integration. The resulting module was developed by adapting the materials, methods, and media to be simpler, more interactive, and supportive of multisensory learning styles. Expert validation produced an Aiken’s V score of 0.85, indicating high validity and confirming that the module is suitable for use. This teaching module is considered effective in supporting inclusive education and serves as an innovative alternative to improve literacy skills among dyslexic students.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the low poetry-reading skills of students at MTSS TI Ranah, characterized by weak intonation, expression, articulation, and self-confidence. Limited learning facilities influenced this condition, the absence of structured poetry-reading training, and a lack of qualified Indonesian-language teachers. The activity used a performance-based learning approach to improve students’ poetry-reading skills through systematic training and direct practice. Data were collected using observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation during the implementation of the training program. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative and quantitative descriptive techniques to examine changes in students’ performance and participants’ responses to the activity. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ poetry-reading skills after the training, particularly in intonation, expression, articulation, pauses, and emotional engagement. Students also demonstrated increased confidence and enthusiasm in performing poetry in front of others. In conclusion, performance-based learning proved to be a practical approach for enhancing poetry Reading skills and fostering students’ appreciation of literary performance in Indonesian language learning.

Abstract

Teaching modules are a crucial component of education. Therefore, teachers are required to have the ability to design and create teaching modules tailored to student needs. The designed teaching modules should also consider inclusive learners. A fundamental problem currently occurring is the lack of understanding and knowledge among teachers on how to create inclusive-based teaching modules at SMAN 2 Tapung Hilir. Therefore, teachers need to revise the design of learning modules. This aims to accommodate the needs of inclusive learning in schools for the sake of equitable education for students. Based on the results of the activity, it can be seen that SMAN 2 Tapung Hilir teachers have the knowledge and skills to design and provide learning for inclusive learners in every subject.

Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) programme aims to improve the competence of senior high school Indonesian language teachers in implementing differentiated learning in response to student diversity and the demands of the Merdeka Curriculum. The activity took the form of a one-day intensive workshop for 26 members of the Indonesian Language MGMP in Rokan Hilir Regency on 25 October 2025. The implementation method included five integrated stages: concept socialisation, training on the principles of differentiation and diagnostic assessment, integration of technology for learning resource curation, practical guidance through simulation, and the formation of a digital learning community. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement in the participants' practical skills, as evidenced by their ability to develop lesson plans (RPP) that integrate variations in content, process, and product, as well as their success in curating digital learning resources relevant to student learning profiles. In addition, a partner satisfaction questionnaire revealed a very high level of success, with 95% of respondents expressing satisfaction with the implementation of the programme. The conclusion from this activity is that practice-oriented workshops supported by sustainable communities are effective in building teachers' capacity to create inclusive learning.
