Abstract

Contemporary approaches to mathematics education play a vital role not only in assessing learning outcomes but also in uncovering the subjective meanings embedded in students’ learning processes. The interpretive paradigm provides a conceptual framework that emphasizes understanding social constructions, personal meanings, and the unique experiences of learners. This paradigm underpins qualitative research in education, particularly when the focus is on in-depth exploration of how students interpret and internalize mathematical concepts. This article aims to review recent literature that applies the interpretive paradigm within the field of mathematics education. Findings indicate that this approach is effective in revealing students’ perceptions of mathematics, their learning strategies, and the emotional and social challenges they encounter throughout the learning process. A literature review of publications from the past five years reveals that the interpretive paradigm enables researchers to gain deeper insights into students’ cognitive and affective domains areas often overlooked by quantitative methods. Predominant methodologies such as in-depth interviews, participatory observation, narrative reflection, and case studies facilitate a holistic and contextualized understanding of learning experiences. Furthermore, this paradigm repositions teachers not merely as transmitters of content, but as facilitators who are attuned to the social, cultural, and psychological backgrounds of their students. The findings from this review offer significant implications for the development of inclusive curricula, reflective and personalized instructional strategies, and more humane, context-sensitive assessment models. In this regard, the interpretive paradigm contributes to shaping a mathematics education system that is more empathetic, relevant, and meaningful for students from diverse backgrounds and with varied learning needs in the modern educational landscape.

Abstract

Filsafat dan matematika mempunyai keterkaitan dalam pembelajaran matematika, keterkaitan dapat dilihat pada model pembelajaran matematika terutama yang berbasis konstruktivistik dan berbasis teknologi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memberikan kajian secara mendalam terhadap filsafat matematika, model pembelajaran matematika di tinjau dari sudut pandang filsafat pendidikan, menelaah berbagai refrensi terkait filsafat, filsafat pendidikan, filsafat matematika, model pembelajaran matematika kaitannya dengan filsafat, dan filsafat matematika kaitannya dengan model pembelajaran berbasis teknologi informasi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan data sekunder yang berasal dari buku, artikel atau jurnal terkakreditasi dari tahun 2015 sampai dengan tahun 2022. Metode penelitian ini adalah studi literatur dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik analisis data studi literatur menekankan pada referensi atau pustaka dari berbagai kajian filsafat, filsafat pendidikan, filsafat matematika, model pembelajaran matematika terkait dengan filsafat, dan filsafat matematika kaitannya dengan model pembelajaran berbasis teknologi informasi. Hasil pembahasan tulisan ini menyimpulkan bahwa: 1) Filsafat matematika memberikan pengaruh yang besar dalam pembelajaran matematika; 2) Model pembelajaran matematika harusnya dikaitkan dengan filsafat pendidikan, yakni mengaitkan konsep kehidupan nyata; 3) Pengintegrasian IT dalam model pembelajaran sangat mendukung proses pembelajaran sehingga pembelajaran menjadi lebih menarik, menumbuhkan minat belajar siswa, meningkatkan kemampuan matematis, meningkatkan motivasi belajar peserta didik, membuat pembelajaran menjadi lebih praktis, efektif dan efesien. Kebermanfaatan penelitian ini bagi orang lain adalah memberikan informasi dan pengetahuan terkait filsafat matematika terhadap model pembelajaran matematika berbasis IT.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa di kelas XI IPA 2 SMA Negeri 11 Medan yang masih rendah. Berdasarkan data awal, hanya 20% siswa yang memenuhi kriteria memiliki kemampuan komunikasi matematis minimal cukup, dengan nilai rata-rata 46,67. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui: (1) tindakan-tindakan yang dilakukan melalui penerapan model Problem-Based Learning (PBL) berbantuan Edmodo untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa; (2) peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa setelah diterapkan model PBL berbantuan Edmodo. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan lembar pengamatan. Hasil penelitian: (1) tindakan yang dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa, yaitu menerapkan model PBL yang dikombinasikan dengan penugasan diskusi kelompok di Edmodo, yang dikembangkan dengan memperbaiki langkah komunikasi matematis pada LKPD, pengaturan ulang posisi duduk siswa, memastikan siswa berbagi tugas dalam mengerjakan LKPD, memfasilitasi bahan bacaan tambahan, membahas kesulitan siswa di depan kelas, memperbanyak sesi tanya jawab, memberikan penghargaan secara langsung kepada siswa yang mengajukan pendapat/merespon pertanyaan, serta memotivasi siswa memanfaatkan fasilitas diskusi Edmodo; (2) rata-rata nilai N-gain sebesar 0,62 sehingga peningkatan pada kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa tergolong sedang.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis pengolahan sumber belajar di SD Negeri 060872 Medan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan analisis dokumen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sekolah telah melakukan inventarisasi yang sistematis terhadap berbagai sumber belajar, termasuk bahan cetak, fasilitas, dan kegiatan. Proses pemilihan sumber belajar mempertimbangkan kriteria ekonomis, praktis, dan fleksibel, yang mendukung produktivitas pembelajaran. Sumber belajar tersebut memberikan pengalaman konkret, memperluas wawasan siswa, dan membantu pengembangan pemahaman sesuai dengan kemampuan dan potensi masing-masing. Namun, ditemukan bahwa pengelolaan buku dan alat peraga memerlukan peningkatan, khususnya terkait penyimpanan yang lebih baik dan pemeriksaan berkala. Lingkungan belajar yang bersih dan dekorasi mendidik juga dianggap penting untuk menciptakan suasana belajar yang kondusif. Secara keseluruhan, meskipun ada beberapa tantangan, pengelolaan sumber belajar di SD Negeri 060872 Medan menunjukkan potensi yang baik dalam mendukung pendidikan yang efektif dan berkelanjutan. Rekomendasi yang diberikan mencakup perbaikan dalam pengelolaan sumber belajar guna meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan di sekolah.

Abstract

This study aims to develop interactive learning media based on iSpring Suite 11 on number pattern material using the Quantum Learning learning model to improve critical thinking skills and self-efficacy of junior high school students. This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of the study were eighth grade students at a junior high school in Medan City. The validation results showed that the developed media obtained a very valid category with an average score above 85%. Limited trials showed that this interactive learning media was effective in improving critical thinking skills and self-efficacy of students, with an average N-Gain of critical thinking skills of 0.68 (medium category) and self-efficacy of 0.71 (high category). Thus, interactive learning media based on iSpring Suite 11 is suitable for use as an innovative learning media in mathematics learning based on Quantum Learning, because it is able to improve critical thinking skills and self-efficacy of students

Abstract

Pemilihan topik matematika yang diajarkan pada jenjang prasekolah hingga menengah merupakan persoalan fundamental dalam pendidikan. Setiap materi yang diberikan kepada siswa tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai sarana penguasaan keterampilan berhitung, tetapi juga sebagai medium pembentukan pola pikir logis, kritis, dan sistematis. Filsafat matematika, sebagai kajian yang menelaah hakikat, asal-usul, serta tujuan ilmu matematika, memberikan landasan konseptual yang kuat untuk memahami apa yang seharusnya diajarkan dan bagaimana materi tersebut relevan dengan perkembangan kognitif anak. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi relevansi filsafat matematika dalam penyusunan kurikulum pada tingkat prasekolah, sekolah dasar, sekolah menengah pertama, hingga sekolah menengah atas. Metode yang digunakan adalah kajian literatur dengan menelaah pandangan para filsuf dan pakar pendidikan matematika terkait peran abstraksi, struktur pengetahuan, serta keterhubungan matematika dengan realitas kehidupan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran matematika perlu diseimbangkan antara konsep konkret dan abstrak, disesuaikan dengan tahapan perkembangan peserta didik. Selain itu, kurikulum sebaiknya tidak hanya menekankan pada kemampuan prosedural, tetapi juga pada pemahaman konseptual dan penerapan praktis. Dengan demikian, filsafat matematika dapat membantu menghadirkan pembelajaran yang lebih bermakna, kontekstual, dan selaras dengan tujuan pendidikan jangka panjang.

Abstract

This study aims to examine ethnomathematics in traditional games, particularly among the Batak Toba ethnic group, where mathematical concepts such as geometry, number operations, relationships between lines, the concept of congruence, probability, number patterns, and speed are present. The traditional games analyzed in this study include Marsitekka, Margala, and Pocca Piring. This research employs qualitative descriptive approach,where the subjects of this research are the three types of traditional games mentioned earlier. The data collection techniques used in this study include observation, field notes, and documentation. Integrating traditional games into mathematics learning provides benefits by visualizing mathematical concepts in a tangible form, making it easier for students to understand mathematical learning.

Abstract

This study examines the interplay between critical thinking and self-efficacy, two skills that reinforce each other in learning. Critical thinking enhances students' confidence, while self-efficacy drives the continuous development of critical thinking across contexts. The research aims to (1) evaluate the effect of a brain-based learning model integrating cultural context on students' critical thinking and self-efficacy and (2) assess the model's effectiveness in enhancing these skills. Using a quasi-experimental design, the study involved Year 7 students selected through purposive sampling and divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught using the brain-based learning model with cultural context, while the control group received conventional instruction. Data were collected through pretests, posttests, and self-efficacy questionnaires. Findings revealed that the brain-based learning model with cultural context significantly improved critical thinking and self-efficacy, with the experimental group outperforming the control. Furthermore, the experimental group showed a marked increase in both skills following the intervention. The study concludes that integrating brain-based learning and cultural context, particularly in mathematics, effectively fosters critical thinking and self-efficacy and recommends its adoption in teaching practices.

Abstract

Mathematical representation is one of the mathematical higher order thinking skills, as a tool or way of thinking in communicating mathematical ideas. Referring to a research about the inconsistency of a mathematical communication profile involving gender differences and the phenomenon of more female students than men right now, there appears to be an allegation that there is a connection between gender differences and students mathematical representation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the improvement of students' mathematical representation capability in terms of gender differences. Subjects in this research were students of class X of High School in Medan, Indonesia, consisting of 13 men and 19 women. The research instrument is a mathematical representation test consisting of 4 questions. Data analysis to find out how the category of improvement of students mathematical representation, using index of N-gain. The results of the research are: (1) the improvement of mathematical representation ability in the lower and middle categories of male students is higher than female students, (2) there is no male students have high category mathematical representation, but there are female students have high category mathematical representation abilities, and (3) the ability of representation to make mathematical models and explain the verbal language of male students is higher than female students. While the representational ability of making tables and drawing female students is higher than male students. The implication of the research is needs to do deeper research to see the relationship of mathematical representation ability with the students' mathematical ability profile.

Abstract

Abstract. This class room action research aimed to improve students' mathematical creativity in mathematical problem solving, and described the learning process of students of SMP Negeri 5 Terbuka. The learning method used module learning cycle models. This research was conducted in two cycles included the steps of planning, implementation of action, observation, and reflection. Students' mathematical creativity in solving mathematical problems measured was fluency, flexibility, elaboration, and originality. The results showed that students' mathematical creativity in mathematical problem solving increased. The aspects of the students' mathematical creativity in mathematical problem solving that most increased in this study were elaboration.Keywords: mathematical creativity, solving mathematical problems, module learning cycle models
